yes, my brother! He and his wife had been married over 20yrs. They divorced, then remarried 2yrs. later. I'm not sure of the exact reasons, but I'm sure the children (almost grown at the time) and their shared history had a lot to do with the remarriage.

My Aunt and Uncle married and had two children together. They divorced and my Uncle remarried three more times to three other women. Twenty years later my Aunt and Uncle got remarried.

I know a couple that did that...not sure it was the best idea though (for them). I don't know the couple very well, but I know things weren't good before hand, they were married 8 yrs or so, divorced for a year, and I think they got remarried 2 yrs ago...not sure if they are still together. I think sometimes couple need a little space (mid-life cirsis maybe?) and then realize how much they love eachother and decide to make it work after the divorce is over. Stephanie |

My great grandparents! The story goes that my great grandfather divorced my grandmother out of shame that he could not support her properly (in the depression). So he divorced her and she went home with her kids to live with her parents. Supposedly her parents would not let her come home when married so he divorced her so she would be taken care of and she and the kids (my grandma and her sisters) would have enough to eat. Then he moved to Chicago, started a successful business after the depression and remarried her. I think there are some holes in the story but its an interesting piece of family history for sure.

I have a friend who was married for 10 years, then she and her husband split. After being apart for two years they got back together. That was about 10 years ago. They haven't remarried because both feel that they just work better together without marriage getting in the way.

My grandparents did that. Actually it is my grandfather and my stepgrandmother. First he married my grandmother then my stepgrandmother then he married someone in between and then remarried my stepgrandmother who is a good 20 years younger than him. Its sad now actually because he is in his 80's and has dementia and she is so sad having to put him in a home recently.

Our close friends were married for 5 or 6 years, got divorced and re-married 4 years later. They have been together since, seem happy and tell everybody that they have been married for 20 years. Oh, neither one of them was in a relationship in between their 2 marriages. Well, that we know of

I do know 2 couples who got divorced and then remarried to each other. I think their relationships are a bit odd, but whose isn't? My aunt and uncle recently got divorced, but they spend more time together now and go out on dates and stuff. *** "Life is change. Growth is optional. Choose wisely." ~ Karen Kaiser Clark *** |

Yes! This happened to my BFF when I was growing up. Even as a kid I did think it was unusual. DH's grandmother's second DH (so his step-grandfather) remarried his first wife years after his grandmother and him got a divorce.

The scenario rings a bell, as though I have known a couple like that . . . . hmmm, I'll have to think. But, almost as interesting, a good friend of mine married his 2nd wife in 2001, thirty-six years after proposing the first time! They had been high school sweethearts, became engaged around college age, and broke up after a big fight that ended with her pulling off her e-ring and throwing it into a lake! They went on to marry other people, raise families, get divorced, and had some quality single time before meeting again at their high school reunion. They couldn't be happier. _____________________________ |

Yup my parents did! They divorced after 20 years of marriage and got remarried this past summer after a few years apart. Us "kids" couldn't have been more thrilled. I told them jokingly that they just wanted to have 2 anniversaries!

I know a couple that have married each other 3 times. They got pregnant at 17 and got married then the baby passed away at 6 months from sids while at her parents house and they got divorced because he blamed her mom for the kids death. They remarried 2 years later and had 2 more kids and got divorced after 14 years. 1 year later they remarried. No one knows why they divorced the second time as they wont say, the rumors are it was cheating but his friends say she cheated and her friends say he cheated so who knows. ........... I know 2 couples that have divorced and remarried eachother. The first is a girl that I went to high school with. She got pregnant, they married, then they divorced. They remarried 2 years later and have been married this time for about 10-12 years. The second couple are neighbors. They divorced and remarried after their daughter was grown. They have been remarried for a long time now. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |

I don't know anyone that did that, BUT my in-laws have friends that had a divorce ceremony. They sent out formal invitations, had a rehearsal and dinner, a ceremony, and a reception... just like a wedding. ![]() The ceremony consisted of them giving speeches (like wedding vows) about why they don't want to be married to each other any more, with explicit detail into exactly what they hate about each other, a reverse-candle-lighting ceremony (using one candle to light two separate ones), culminating in the signing of the divorce papers and being pronounced "now single _________ and _________." ![]() At the reception, friends gave toasts to their new single life, and talked about how terrible their marriage was. They now go on regular dates. Diff'rent strokes, I suppose...

Musey, that divorce ceremony is one of the craziest things I've ever heard of! My goodness. I kind of understand one person throwing themselves a divorce party (like Shanna Moakner), but a joint divorce party? A disunity candle? Wow. That is just taking it to a whole new level.

I don't know of anyone personally, but I think this might happen with my parents. I swear I'm not one of those kids who foolishly dreams about her parents getting back together, though! They've been divorced for 5 years now, and I know they both regret it and are unhappy in their current situations. When they get together they have a blast and there is all sorts of chemistry. If they weren't so stubborn I'm sure they'd have done it already.
