I have been very blessed to find this site in the very first week! I found this ring that Tiffanys offers but I really would prefer to spend less. I will buy it if I cant find a near identical ring... .. Would it be possible to have a jeweler make this setting? I am open to all suggestions, thank you all for your help!

I just saw this today on Tacori's website today: http://www.tacori.com/TACORI-SRCH/ENGAGEMENT/2577RD75-A-4-1-25-/ It's much more elaborate than the Tiffany setting and not quite as sleek/streamlined-looking (for lack of a better word), but it did remind me a bit of the one you posted, so I thought I'd add it.

There are some great B&M stores, like knoxjewelers of MN, but the other ones are usually very high priced for the quality. Whiteflash is great, I would definitely try that route, and they can give you a great diamond for an excellent value, as well as a nice quality setting to go with it. They have some beautiful settings for very affordable prices.

Now I have to decide if I want a "girly" ring or sleek, but hey Im a Marine and Im not wearing it! It seems to me that most women on this site prefer the knox designs more so than the tiffanys but like the tiffanys name. Is this a correct assumption? I also liked the fact that you can custom make a ring with Knox, but then you have to use their diamonds to make up profit. You all have been so helpful to a novice such as myself. Im sure Ill be back with some additional questions before I make my final purchase! thanks again, Jay

Dreamgirl loves Tiffany with all her heart and soul. I'm sure that she's aware that her two favorite designs can be imitated by other designers but she wants an original Tiffany. This is to say that you assumption is incorrect because we all have our own desires and ideas of beauty. No one is going to make an exact of the copyrighted Tiffany design, Knox included, but working with a designer you can make some changes to the design so that it suits you.

But it is hard to justify the prices since you can get something similar for so much less. I'd look at Good Old Gold and WhiteFlash for the diamond first. Then, once you decide on the stone, see if they have a setting you like. If not, then you can probably order the setting and have it sent to the diamond vendor to set or vice versa. If the diamond vendor will set it, that would be best because they'd still have the stone insured. But you'll probably pay a setting fee if you don't buy the setting from them. My ring was made by the house jeweler at a local family owned (yet high end) jewelry store. The only thing I would care about is customer service and store policies, so as long as a place has quality pieces and offers good customer support, then I don't care what their name is!! To me, and this is just my opinion and others may disagree, I find Tiffany a bit bland and a bit chincy on the details, sorry. I like the added touches and details that Knox puts into their settings, even if they're copying Tiffany in some cases. They also are less expensive. My all time favorite setting is the Rhapsody by Knox, and I could just stare at that setting all day long. I think Tiffany has some timeless designs, but again, I'm a bit bored by them. JMO.

I do think that there could be cooler baskets adjustments made from the side view though. Which is why HANDS DOWN I would go with Maytal Hannah for a custom setting if that's the look I wanted. In a heartbeat over knox. Knox does a nice job, but Maytal's work is immaculate and her attention to detail is great. Plus her settings are higher quality in terms of construction, IMO. As for the Tiffany or the Knox setting... if they were the same price and same construction quality? The Tiffany would get my vote because it's a more classic setting in my opinion. Timeless and graceful. The Knox is a little cluttered for me, personally.

I've been to Knox's store in MN and while their settings are nice for the price, their work is not nearly as nice as Maytal's or Leon Mege's appear to be. I think of Knox kind of like the "bargain" setting store. Their settings are great for the prices, but if you are willing to spend a bit more you can get something much nicer IMO and still be well under Tiffany prices.

The Knox setting looks messy to me (sorry). I'm always quite surprised to hear people sing their praises because when I see pictures of their pieces, they don't look all that well constructed. Maybe I'm just a weirdo. I also am no slave to the Tiffany name, if I can find better quality, or equal quality for less, elsewhere then that is where I'll go. I happened to fall in love with one of their eternity bands for my wedding ring, and it was my opinion that the other similar pieces (and/or "copies") out there did not match the quality for what I was looking for. So we got the Tiffany ring. NEVER thought I'd own a Tiffany ring. Anyway, all that is to say that your assumption, "It seems to me that most women on this site prefer the knox designs more so than the tiffanys but like the tiffanys name. Is this a correct assumption?" is absolutely false. That would be WAY overgeneralizing for the hundreds of women (and men) that frequent this site. Some people think Knox is great, and some people (like me) think that they're not, but we do not all fall into either "Tiffany" or "Knox" piles as you insinuated. There are SO SO SO many other designers and vendors out there, and most people have their favorite(s). On the whole I would venture to guess that peoples favorites are NOT either Tiffany or Knox.
