You've heard how the bridal departments at all the Saks stores but two are closing, right? I just stopped in at Saks today and they have all their samples on sale for 50 percent off! Some of the dresses are in rough shape but the majority look great. This was at the South Coast Plaza store but I'm sure it's a similar situation at the other stores. Unfortunately I bought my dress there before I knew the department was closing. Sigh. We're talking Vera Wang, Ulla Maija, Carolina Herrera, etc. I hope someone here snags a great deal!

ETA: Maybe I should've read the forum rules before posting about a specific store. Sorry if that's against the rules!

Thanks for the heads-up!  I'm headed over to South Coast this evening with some girlfriends to check it out!

Me too Panda!  I need to go to REI (which is on the 55) so I figured I could make a side trip to SCP.

Is it worth the drive? Did they have anything good?

LOL!  Let me know if you find anything good!  If you see an asian woman wandering aimlessly around the bridal section, it's probably me, cuz I have NO idea what I'm looking for!

I was at the Saks in Columbus, OH yesterday and was shocked at how many awesome dresses they had. Everything was in either a street size 6 or 8, so it won't work for everyone. But, I was amazed by how affordable and in what good condition the dresses were. Here's some I tried on to give anyone thinking of going an idea of the condition:

The elusive Becca. Had this been able to be altered to fit me, I might have changed my wedding to be able to wear it. But, since I was about a foot shorter to the dress, there would be no way to alter it and keep the detailing. Brightstar--you and I can start a club for brides who wanted to wear the Becca but had to pick otherwise fabulous dresses instead.

And another Melissa Sweet. I would wholly recommend getting to a Saks if you are a 6-8 and have a $1-2K dress budget!

All of those dresses look great on you, Katamari!

I went to the Saks in South Coast Plaza in CA. The selection was primarily in sizes 8 and 10. The condition of the dresses were pretty good. I tried on a beautiful Vera Wang (it's my #1 right now...) and an Amsale (#2). But even at half off, the Vera Wang was $3K, which is still a bit too rich for my blood. But it was great to just try on some dresses, to get an idea of what I like and what looks good.

Thanks, Panda! I hear you on the price issue. I keep telling myself that it isn't right to spend more on a dress than the GDP of the country where we are having our ceremony. But, they sure were some pretty dresses. Glad to hear you have an idea of what you like!
