Hi guys!
I found this BEAUTIFUL wedding band that I would LOVE to have as a RHR or just a band that I wear when I have to ship my e-ring off to get ir remounted (early next month YAY for bev. K halo cushion! LOL!)

Anyways!  It's a Van Craeynest platinum band w/3 round diamonds in it totaling .05 carats...for 250.00 and its a size 6.  I would need to size it to a 4 (and then probably back up again after I get my halo, to a 4.5)

I'm attaching a pic for reference.  Let me know what you think!  I THINK I'm going to use my christmas money on it

Hi Stephanie,

Its a lovely band, but I would definately only size it once. Don't want to risk damaging it

Is it a good price?  Fair for a used band?

I think it sounds like a really good price for platinum.

I agree about only having it sized once - you could have temporary sizing bands put in if necessary, but I wouldn't re-size it multiple times.

The ring looks lovely, but it's kind of hard to tell from the picture. Do you have any others? What condition is it in?

Personally, I'd be a bit weary to purchase it because of the low selling price. It seems to me that a Van Craeynest ring would sell for a lot more, especially since it is platinum. Is there any way to validate its authenticity? Is there a return policy?

I also would caution against re-sizing it more than once.

I am going to ask the buyer if he's willing to ship it to an appraiser to validate if it's real or not.  It says it was only worn 3 months and then put back in the box.

how would you go about this?

IMO, VC is not well known enough among the masses to be able to have knock-offs, versus big names like Tacori.

I'm seeing if a friend can meet him at a retailer of them, but I haven' heard from my friend yet.  He agreed to meet with her though, but I can't seem to find a list of retailers in the midtown area (or a list of any at all)

Do you guys know of any fine jewlery stores that sell Van Craeynest in the midtown or manhatten area?

Thanks!

Stephanie

$250 is a really good deal.  I would snatch it up in a heartbeat but you may need to hurry because there are probably a zillion lurkers looking for that band right now.......

I think is a really cute band at a very good price, but I'd reserve/hold it so no one else can grab it!

I would almost never buy a ring that needed to be sized down that much unless it was a solitaire style setting. I try to buy rings that are no more than one size off of my ring size.  I just remember one time another PSer bought a beautiful antique setting that needed to be sized down to a small size like a 4 and she was told that it would damage the design to do so. Fortunately she was able to return it.

They man selling is has been super pacient with me and answering all of my questions.  He bought in in Mass. in 2001 at "peoples pottery" which has since gone out of business.  His ex fiancee gave it back after she left (which is fine bc I dont belive in bad karma, and i won't be wearing it as a WB).  He has offered to meet at a jewlery store, and also, If I want, to do the transaction over ebay as a buy it now (so I have buyer protection) and feel more comfortable.  I REALLY REALLY Want it.  Now to convince hubby that its okay to give stephanie the money to buy the ring (more like, okay stephanie to spend her money to buy the ring, but same diff)

Send dust that my hubby will okay it!  I might not even size it.  A 6 should fit on my middle finger...hmmm...

So did you buy it, Stephanie? I think it was a great buy, other than not being your size. But if you did get it and want to size it, I'd definitely recommend calling Van Craeynest and asking Larry VC if he'll resize it for you!
