sunnyd Ideal Rock Total Posts: 4,579 Last Post: 11/24/2009 Member Since: 11/5/2007	I think we found our place! It has a really nice ballroom in an art deco hotel (Hotel Deca). The colors in there are red (drapes) and gold/ivory (damask wallpaper or paint). We want to do red, chocolate and gold as our colors. I originally thought to have the girls in dark red, dark chocolate tableclothes and the flowers would be roses. Lots of candles. Would it be too much to throw black in the mix? Maybe the girls in black with red sashes? Black tablecloths (don't have to rent) with maybe a sheer gold overlay? But then where could the chocolate go...I have about 12 ideas for centerpieces too, which definitely doesn't help... What do you think?

Its lucky that the red drapes and gold damask wallpaper go so nicely with your theme. I don't think that adding black into the mix would mix up your color scheme too much. Especially if you have them wear red sashes. The black table clothes with gold overlays sound awesome. Though, after all that I'm not sure how to tie in the chocolate brown. Are you up for letting that one go? Maybe if the girls had Espresso (blackish brown) dresses with red sashes instead of black dresses? I suppose I'm not being helpful by suggesting more options. I noticed two kinds of chairs in their photos but the majority of photos have covered chairs in them. Are you going to use those? If so, with covers? If covers, with a bow? I thought the photo with a sheer purple overlay and then a sheer purple bow on the chair made them look nice. If you're using chair covers that could be a way to tie in your additional colors. I'm not so sure that would work out. Could you use black as the accent color and then use brown in natural elements such as dark wood (think branches in the centerpieces, pine cones, things like that)? Is there a reason why you really want to use chocolate brown? A reason you really want to use black? To me, chocolate would have a softer feel and black would give your decor a more formal look. As your ideas start to meld together one or the other color will probably stand out in your mind more. Maybe some other posters will have more creative ideas. Your venue looks really cool!

I'd drop the chocolate brown too if you'd like to add black to the mix. An idea might be doing deep red and black with gold accents. Girls in black with red rose bouquets, men in black tuxes with red accents, etc.

Nothing too special, and we don't have the budget to cover them. Plus it's not really something I care about toooo much. I like the idea of the espresso/blackish dress with a red or even gold sash! I know chocolate and black together is...not so good. Would dark espresso be better? I think it's more formal that way. Maybe? It's becoming harder to pull together everything as I go, oh no!

I think chocolate seems to fit more with the hotel's decor (at least what I saw in the pics on their website) and I don't think black and brown would really go together. I also think the brown is a little more sophisticated. I'm not sure why, because black is typically the most sophisticated color around, but in this case, with this hotel, I think brown would be better. ~Elrohwen
