Silver ornament for favor? |

My mom had an idea to do a silver "Fort Worth" Christmas ornament as the wedding favor. Most of our guests will be OOT. We were going to do a candy table, but think I'd rather have something pretty sitting at the table. Wedding will be exactly 5 months before Christmas (July 25). Any opinions? Too soon?

I like the ornament idea. I don't think that it would be a problem for people who don't celebrate Christmas since it seems to be place specific, instead of holiday specific [if I am reading it right].

What a neat idea! I've never heard of that before. I bet the guests that don't celebrate Christmas would still like it provided it isn't dressed up as a Christmas ornament.

Cbs- As I think about it, I don't believe there are going to be more than a handful of guests who don't celebrate Christmas. I hadn't even thought about that. As far as looking like an ornament, I think my mom is wanting strictly silver, no holly or red and white candy canes. Lanie- I was worried about the same thing. July is a "little" early. However, I was thinking, if I traveled for a wedding to a place I've never been or rarely see, I would love to have a memento saying I had been. Ya know? Is this one of those flat, lazer-cut type silver ornaments? If so, that doesn't scream "Christmas" to me, and it would be fairly easy for your OOT guests to get home in one piece. Another option would be to incorporate the ornament as part of the thank you note for your OOT guests, sort of a special thanks for people who went the extra mile (so to speak  ) to celebrate your wedding with you.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |

I'm actually doing that too! At first we were going to do little bottles of maple syrup to keep with the new york state theme however I found these silver plated Birch leaf ornaments on sale over Christmas and decided to use them instead. Its a personal thing with the birch leaves. The other thing that I am going to do with it is hang each ornament from the back of the chair from the ribbon or chair sash to spice up the room. That is if I can find someone in my family to help tie them from the back of the chair sashes the day of the wedding. Some people use ornaments to decorate all year round. I actually got the idea from my grandmother who keeps an ornament tree of leaves throughout the fall. So of course I think its a great idea. EM1 |

My sister went to a wedding in August and got a tiffany blue round glass ornament. My sister and other guest thought it was odd, like they found the ornaments on sale after christmas, but it was just a plain ornament.

I'm conflicted. I think it's a wonderful idea *but* I think it's too early. Is there something else you could give that would remind them of where the wedding was? I guess little "Fort Worth" shot glasses probably aren't sophisticated enough  I dunno, I'm at a loss because I think it's such a great idea, but if I were a guest, I would think it was a little odd (while thinking it was very cool at the same time). I think it also fits with the formal feel you're going for. I just reread what I wrote and I wasn't very helpful at all. Sorry! Haha.

Oo, I thought of something that's actually helpful! I think if you put a really nice note on the ornaments you could sell people on the idea of an ornament in July. Saying something about how you wanted to give them a momento of Fort Worth and that you want them to remember it when they pull the ornament out at Christmas, etc. I think the right note could go a long way towards people seeing it as a great favor instead of an odd one because of the date.

They are like this.... A little different than what you are describing but to be honest...you could hang this from anything in my house and it would look nice in the fall. I doubt I'd even use it for Christmas. I can't find them on Wallmart's site but my grandmother actually was the one that found them before the holidays for less than a $1 a piece. On another note...since we are having a rustic type wedding in the mountains I might also be using lanterns in our decor and people could also take them as well. I just have to figure out exactly how i want to use them still.  EM1 |

Personally, I'm all about ornaments! Every Christmas I buy and/or recieve a new ornament (or two or three) so in theory I think it's a wonderfully unique and special idea. But, I do agree with others' comments about it being too early. As a guest it would just seem odd to me to receive a Christmas ornament favour in the middle of summer, ya know?! I do like your idea though about giving OOT guests a momento fromTexas (just not Elrohwen's shot glass idea  )

I think that July is a bit early for Christmas ornaments...but I love the sentiment... I wish I had a picture on hand, but for the Christmas following my wedding, I sent all of our OOT guests a "Chicago" ornament from Macys...which is a tradition my DH and I have (we get an ornament every year to symoblize our trips). ____________________________ |

FI and I LOVE  ornaments, so I think it's a great idea! The town I grew up in used to them every Christmas and they looked nice and commemorative - not like a random ornament.This may be too much like having to explain a joke, but could you include a little note of explanation? Something like, "Thank you for joining us on our big day. Please accept this memento of the occasion - we hope you will enjoy it this holiday season and for many more to come!" or whatever.
