My car is so old, it has only a radio and a cassette player.  Since I have no cassettes, I listen to the radio a lot while driving and I'm always singing along to tunes and trying to figure out lyrics.  I'm sure the people who see me singing to myself think I'm nuts, but I don't care.

Lately though I've been in such a ring-obsessed mode that whenever I hear Beyonce's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" and Taylor Swift's "Love Story" I get really excited.  Taylor Swift's song even chokes me up a little when she get to the part about "He got down on one knee and pulled out a ring and said marry me Juliet you never have to be alone..."  Beyonce's song makes me laugh since she says the phrase "if you like it then you should've put a ring on it" over and over and over, almost like she's using the repitition to try and get the idea into the guy's head.

I think this officially makes me an anxious and crazy LIW.

I thought I was the only one who gets choked up over that song! Lol. BF will even stop talking if he knows it's coming so I can listen.

There's a song with a line like that on her first CD, something like "Remember that time we walked down the aisle, our whole town was there and our Mommas cried. You said I do, and I did too" but there's a bit about a proposal, too, and I get choked up EVERY TIME. I'm a dork.

Every time I hear Beyonce's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" I kinda cringe. It is sooooo LIW!!! But she's given up, hasn't she, she's moving on to greener pastures?

Anyway it's all good fun - girl power, girl agenda! I love having marriage-talk injected into pop culture! Makes a change from guns n girlz! (and silly teenage lust-with-Goober songs)

I just really like Taylor Swift's music in general, but especially love "Love Story"  I must say i'm another one who gets a little chilly from the proposal line.  Maybe my Prince Charming will come through for me the same way.

I don't really listen to either Taylor Swift or Beyonce, but I laughed when I read the phrase "if you like it then you should've put a ring on it." I think that's a very good motto to live by.

I think it would drive me crazy to be listening to all these songs that remind me of my naked finger. It's bad enough turning on the TV with all the wedding shows.

Beyonce and Jay-Z got married last April after many years of dating quietly. He put an 18ct EC on it! I'm not sure if that's what you were asking, but she released this song after their wedding, I believe--no LIW-itis for her anymore.

I cry like a baby when I hear "Love Story," but lately, anything having to do with proposals brings a tear to my eye.

Yes, I heard they married! I wonder if she DID suffer LIW-itis? It's a funny thought, isn't it? My question was related more to the character in the song. I guess I just assume that so many artists sing songs written or collaborated with other artists, that I don't expect them to biographical.

Still, I think LIW-itis SHOULD really be talked about, and discussed (rather than just dissed or laughed at) it's been our shameful little secret for too long!! Girlfriends can't even talk about it to their girl friends! Or even their parents!

I think she probably WROTE the song some time ago, but waited until she got the ring to record it. If you watch the video, she flashes her ring at the end!

I see what you meant now! And yes, it does sound like the character in the song has moved on, and the guy missed his opportunity to be with an awesome lady.

And I absolutely agree--it's so taboo to say that you want to get married, and even more so to say that sooner would be better than later. Why? I certainly felt like I couldn't talk about it before I got engaged, and that was so hard for me. It's sad that girls (actually, guys too) can't confide in one another about their hopes and dreams regarding marriage and family. It really isolates people, because they feel like no one else shares their anxiety and frustration. Thank goodness for this board and knowing there were/are other girls out there who felt the way I did; I didn't post for a long time, but reading everyone's stories was so helpful. I wish real life afforded me the same sort of comfort--it's hard to understand why it didn't. When did wanting to get married become unacceptable to talk about?

i always think of eartha kitt's song "santa baby" when i think of ring related songs.  i believe that is dreamgirl's  signature"quote"
"forgot to mention one little thing, a ring, i don't mean on the phone".  my favorite christmas song.
