My sweet parents gave me a pair of david yurman earrings for Christmas that are not my style, so they are being returned and now I have about $1000 to play with. I am thinking that i would like to stick with earrings, since that is what they chose for me and I don't really have any nice ones other than my diamond studs and pearl studs, which I pretty much alternate wearing. I am currently leaning towards either the Roberto Coin diamond hoops or the WF jackets pictured below. The jackets would be on 2ctw studs, so I am not sure if they would be too big (I am very petite with tiny ears) and I am also not sure how much I would wear them. They don't seem like an everyday thing, and I feel like I'd want something more dangly when I get really dressed up. The hoops are .80 ctw, which is a good size for me and I feel like I could dress them up or dress them down. I guess I am leaning towards the hoops, the only things that are holding my back is that I have to kick in about $450 for them which I have, but is a lot for just after Christmas, and that I am a little afraid they stick out and make me look like Dumbo. I am open to other hoops, I love the new Whiteflash ones and they are right at my budget, but I just don't love the single prong look - it's a little too dainty for me. Any suggestions? What would you choose?

Here are the Roberto Coin hoops. This picture is not great, they are amazingly sparkly in real life.

Definitely the RC hoops!!!  I think you'd get a lot more wear out of them, and I don't think 1 ct. studs (each) need jackets!

(By the way, who carries those hoops? I haven't seen that style and I look at RC earrings a lot!)

At first I was going to vote hoops until I saw that you had to kick in another 450 for them.

I'd go with the jackets...almost anything WF is divine!

I vote for the hoops.  BTW - your parents are very sweet to get you something like this for Christmas!

I vote for the hoops as well - they are beautiful!  A totally different look than studs.

I'll add to the hoop loving crowd. They are beautiful and I think you will wear them often.

I like the hoop idea too, but maybe look into alternative hoops that would be in budget if you don't want to spend the extra $450.

WF has these ones...

And I'm really digging these, but I can imagine my hair getting stuck in them

Go for the hoops - especially if you only have studs right now.  You need something that hangs.    I dont like the WF as much as the ones you
picked out but if it were my money I would probably go with the WF.  Enjoy whatever you choose

~~~Thanks to PS, my wants far exceed my budget!~~~
Thank you all for your responses!  I was definitely leaning towards the hoops and you all have confirmed it.  Diamondseeker, Bailey Banks and Biddle carries these hoops.  If you are interested, I can find out the style number for you.   In my area (Philly), they have the largest selection of RC by far.  You are right, they are a style I have not seen many places (most of the RC hoops I saw were a complete circle, rather than having the post back.)  I actually prefer this style because it sits better on my ear.  Although there was a 2.3 carat pair of the other style that I wouldn't turn down, unfortuately they are way out of budget.   I will be sure to post pics once I get them!
I would totally do the hoops too! If you don't want to kick in the $450, what about the scattered diamond huggies? They'd come in under budget, and would rock for everyday wear!
Here are some Pearlman's options - and if you do it before tomorrow, you can get a gift card at 20% off, and then turn around and use it!
I actually ordered the first BK pair and returned them. They lived up to their definition of huggies, that's for sure! They were tiny enough for a baby..about a 1/2" in diameter or less. They did not hang below the earlobe at all, and I don't have big earlobes.  So with small hoops, I really recommend trying some on before ordering just to avoid the hassle of returning them.
I really prefer getting designer brands whenever possible, but I do look for discounts.
