We went shopping for bridesmaids dresses today, for the first time, and were entirely unsuccessful. I need help.

Does anyone know the price range of Priscilla of Boston/Vineyard BM dresses (before I bother to make an appointment I'd like to know if they are completely out of my reach)?

Do any NYC brides have suggestions of other places to try?

Do ANY brides have any suggestions? I'm so lost!!

From what I saw, I like longer A-line skirts (or anything not too narrow). I would really like a nice deep purple color, and nothing too shiny. Beyond that, I'm flexible.

I was quoted about $225 for both a POB dress and a Vineyard dress. Both were knee length, so a floor length dress would probably be more expensive. They're a bit pricey, but I absolutely love some of their styles.

I don't know about the vineyard prices but the Mel. Sweet prices are between 260 for the short and 300+ for the long ones.  Since  I got my dress there my girls got a 15% discount.  So the dress came to about $260.  Hope that helps.

Honestly, if I were you I would pick out the dress that I want my bridesmaids to wear, and then I'd send them the purchasing info. This may sound harsh, but it will save you a lot of grief in the long run. I made the mistake of bringing my bridesmaids shopping for dresses, and they absolutely could not agree. In the end they all ended up wearing different dresses in different colors, which actually looked incredible.

Most of the brides I've stood up with have just told me what to buy, and it's always been fine. You will never find something that everyone likes, so even if you give them all the input, somebody is going to be unhappy in the end.

I forgot to add that my girls are wearing a long dress so with the discount it came to about $260.  They all thought that was fine.  Most of the weddings I've been in the dresses were in the $300+ range so I was happy they were at least able to get some off.

I can probably swing $300! I just have to butter up my fiance a little bit first.

Thanks so much for your help, Emerald!

I went to POB this past weekend and was very unimpressed. We looked at long dresses, and they were all in the $300 range (all over the 300's). Also, I may be a bit of a fabric snob, but I hated theirs. Most of them were "Taffeta" (as told to me by the SA), but they were very stiff and very loud.

I would reccomend Badgley Mishka if you're looking at taffeta. We found one there that we loved, and their taffeta was so soft. As you know from the other thread, I really liked Jenny Yoo as well, and love her fabrics. Gorgeous silk!!

You can find Badgley M dresses at 2 places in NY:
The Wedding Library (Uptown)
Adrienne's (Downtown)

Jenny Yoo's:
Flahship store is in NY: 139 West 35th, 9th Floor

Good luck!!!

TheBigT-
I went with a few of my girls to try on dresses at POB's last week. We are also looking for floor length dresses and all of the ones we tried on were 200-250 dollars. Very reasonable. POB will also give them a 15 percent discount if you purchase your wedding gown from them and a 10 percent discount if you order during one of there many, many trunk shows. Hope that helps.

For a huge selection and all of the mid-range wedding designers, go to RK Bridal. They won't serve you a cup of cioffee, and it can be a bit stressful, but the prices are the best and if you want, you can do the mail order option (no fittings, no alterations) which is a lot cheaper.

Ann Taylor is awesome, with multiple silk options, but they haven't been putting out a lot of colors lately. Check their new line around February. There is a Celebrations showroom at the store on 5th and 48th(?) in the basement.

If you want something very cool and different, try 2 Birds Bridesmaid in Brooklyn or online. The dresses can be worn in like 12 different styles and reworn, great if you don't mind the almost $300 price tag and have multiple body types, etc.

Good luck!

Hope you're having a wonderful Christmas. How did the BM shopping go?

Aw, Meresal, you're sweet to think of me! guess what? Turns out Jenny Yoo was the place! (But I forgot to take pictures...) I absolutely loved the floor-length dress that's in the background of your photo, but I felt like that would be too heavy and dramatic for my summer wedding. So, the close second choice (Anastasia) was the big winner!

I had such a great experience there and the sales associates were so nice. I'm thrilled that I finally have this decision made. Thanks again for your advice!!

WOW! My BM dresses are $169 and I was really worried that that would be too much for my girls! I can't imagine asking them to pay $300!! Granted, I'm not having a huge, fancy wedding or anything, and nobody I know really has a LOT of money, but I still thought $170 was a lot to ask people to pay for for MY wedding!! Now I know that's a steal!!

BTW: Here's a link to the dress I finally chose. It took me FOREVER to decide on a dress and then 'even more forever' (LOL) to finally decide on the colors I wanted. :) But, here it is, and the colors we're having are sweet pea & daphne rose (please note the colors on the monitor are NOT accurate AT ALL! Daphne rose looks PURPLE online, but is a soft reddish-pink in real life. http://www.alexiadesigns.com/main/?p=126

And here's a link to a paint-shopped image of the dress in as close to the colors I chose as i could make them.
