I got engaged last month.  My FI has been married before and had a traditional wedding.  I don't really want to do that.  For several reasons including I don't want to plan it nor do I want to spend that kind of money.  I'd like to have a destination wedding.  But NOT a tropical one.  I'd like it to be more rustic or in the mountains.  But NOT country bumpkin!  I live near St Louis.   The closer it is the more people that would probably come.  But I'm open to ALL ideas.

I found this place today and LOVE it! www.innattheroundbarn.com/weddings.htm   But it's in Vermont.  That's probably too far unless it was just us and the parents.

Another place is Big Cedar Lodge in MO. www.bigcedar.com   I would want to check that out before deciding because there aren't enough pics or info to decide.

I don't know yet if my parents will be ok with a destination wedding because I'm the only daughter.  Also still not sure FI is ok with it cause he kind of wants another traditional wedding    But in the mean time I'm trying to find "THE" place so I can plead my case.  Anyone have any ideas???   Thanks!

Sounds like exactly what I wanted and exactly what I am doing but...I live in NY so i can't help you there.  I actually originally wanted to have my wedding in the Addirondacks as I spend a lot of time there as a kid and my grandparents actually own a home up there but the unfortunate part is that it is really hard to get to.  Closest big airport being Albany and 2 and a half hours away from the location in Lake Placid we were going to have our wedding.  We decided on the catskill mountians which are a lot closer to NYC.  So, if you do wind up traveling just make sure there is an airport nearby.

I wish I had more suggestions for you.

There's a beautiful park near Carbondale called Garden of the Gods.  It's an awesome park with neat stone formations--worth a visit outside of wedding planning Maybe you could find a lodge there with stunning backgrounds. It looks like it would only be a couple of hours outside of St. Louis, so you keep the guests who want to come or need to get back, but maybe you can pare down the excesses. Good luck!

What about the Ozarks? I'm sure you can find a pretty big vacation house and have a larger DW. Like family and close friends. Just a thought. :)

Ooh, love the idea of the Ozarks if you're in Stl.

I just went to visitmo.com and found this place : http://www.MissouriWine.com/CateringPrivateParties.asp

It's near Columbia - DH is a Mizzou grad, and I'm absolutely in love with CoMo - great little city to visit for a weekend.

What about a combination of both a destination and traditional wedding? Not a very large drawn out ordeal, but something intimate. I'm thinking something in like Colorado in the mountains.

It's for a smaller crowd (under 14 guests), but I thought it was kind of adorable. When SO and I get to the point we are going to elope, just the two of us, and a preliminary search came up with this.

The Butterfly Hollow, just outside of Nashville, TN

I did a search, but I still can't figure it out! How do I create real links like you guys do!? I would have loved to make it say The Butterfly Hollow underlined for the link out, but I need someone to teach me!!!
