I love this forum and have gotten hours and hours of enjoyment just reading through info and looking at everyone's fab rings etc! My boyfriend and I have started talking engagements/weddings/rings etc recently and I really have to start thinking about what I want to guide him along the way. I'm in Ireland but travel to the US quite a bit so think getting my ring on a trip to New York might be the best thing to do given that Ireland prices are ridiculously high in comparison to just about everywhere!! I am absolutely, crazily, head-over-heels in love with the Tiffany Legacy ring but I'm also vary aware of the price that goes with them! I am guessing that I have a budget of about $8,000ish. Does anyone know if it would be possible to get something in that price range and if so would it look ridiculously small on my 6.5 finger??!! Any help would be hugely appreciated! xx

You could also go for a coloured stone rather than a diamond. Or keep an eye on signedpieces.com to see if a second hand one comes up.

I actually think it looks lovely in that size, but it is certainly a different look, so you'll want to be sure you like it before you commit to it of course. That being said, you could get much closer to a carat with a custom made setting very similar to the legacy from a vendor like Mark at Engagement Rings Direct or Whiteflash. They won't copy the legacy per se, but they have each made gorgeous and very similar settings if the name isn't important to you.

I haven't discussed price with FF yet so I'm working off what I think would be the low end of what I think he might have in mind. I'd rather not get my hopes up or put him under pressure financially! Thanks for the tip on signedpieces.com as its something that I never thought of but I'll keep a close eye on it now! Does anyone have links to a 0.5 image of the legacy ring? It would be great if there was a link to real photos of different size carats with the same setting for comparison! Thanks so much again ladies. x

I haven't seen a Legacy style custom from them, but I've seen a custom pave-job which was pretty intricate in person. They did (IMHO) a really excellent job.

I don't think I have the right personality to do custom, it would stress me out, but luckily there are many nice legacy-style settings already available on the market. I noticed that Whiteflash just added a non custom Legacy style setting. It is very budget friendly! Search under their diamond settings, sorry no time to find the link right now, but I think it's called Isabella or something like that. Vatche Princess Grace is also very similar, and SuperbCert makes a legacy replica. I went through a big setting search to try to set my sapphire legacy-style. Whiteflash hadn't introduced their option yet and the Vatche was above my budget so I chose the Ritani endless love halo. It is not really that legacy-esque but had the elements that I wanted. The Vatche may have come down in price because metals are cheaper now. good luck!!! Oh, another thing you might want to look at is the Beverley K settings at Pearlmans. Again they are not legacy replicas per se but very beautiful in their own right and have some of the same elements and style of the legacy (more old fashioned; the ritani is more modern IMO). They are also beautifully made and well priced for the quality.

If a replica will be okay, then your budget will afford a hefty beautiful stone in a lovely setting. At tiffanys, it will probably be quite smaller, but to some this is fine since the halo setting gives the stone a little heft. I also personally love the look of the "asscherish-cushion" that they put into the legacy and that is a patented cut that can't be purchased anywhere else. Although I'd normally champion colour, H and I in are too close to really make that large a difference, in my opinion - and the same with the clarity. If you see both and you can see the colour difference, I'd go with the better colour, but the size difference is huge! The size difference seems huge for the price difference but hard to say I suppose until I see them in person. It was just to get a general idea of what I could get within budget at the moment though as I'm in Ireland and still have to arrange a little trip to New York to see these in the flesh! Very exciting though.

But I'd want to try and see it in person first. But congrats, that is great on finding a few to check out!!! They can also call in more for you if those don't work...

Agreed on both counts--this is one ring where the imitations just don't quite get the same effect, and that ring is just perfect in smaller sizes. Personally, Shonagh, I'd suggest trying them on yourself to get a feel for that ring on your hand before giving up and going for an alternative. That budget is very respectable, and so even with Tiffany prices, you may still find yourself with your perfect ring. ETA: Oh, just read your update--how exciting!
