Because he doesn't have any.

I need help here, please. Hubby has never worn jammies, for a couple reasons. But apparently he is getting old, and colder, as he put a t-shirt on the other night because our room is so cold. Can we say ice box? Anywho, I want to buy him some for xmas, however, it's not going to be as easy as going and picking a pair out.

Here's why. He doesn't like regular jammies because they (legs especially) twist and hike up. They also need to be lightweight. He has long underwear, but didn't put those on because he said they would be too hot. So, does anyone have any idea where I can find jammies that are lightweight/breathable, but styled like long underwear? At a somewhat reasonable price....

Any help much appreciated!

Hey, what about a man size onesie / babygro with the button butt flap and enclosed feeties?  That would keep him nice and warm and should stay put!

I don't think he'd wear something like that. Like, it wouldn't be "manly" enough....yanno?  He's rather particular about that kind of thing.

But it would be warm!

Hey Ellen,

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, or what the shipping costs would be (this is an Australian company) but thought I would throw it out there as I love their men's pyjama shorts.

Hmm...I once had a pair of pj pants that was very thin, like t-shirt material, but was rather tight-fitting and had elastic at the ankles which kept them from sliding around and getting twisted. Would something like that be what you're looking for? I can see if I can find them again if they sound good...

Ellen:

I think you should look at what I call climbing tights....

They hug the skin, flex with movement, are lightweight, and warm (and used to come in the wildest colors and patterns - they seem more muted now).

Here is a link to some of what I am talking about:

http://www.mountaingear.com/pages/product/Search_Results_Endeca_New.asp?lpos=leftnav&N=804&Nao=0&Nu=p%5Frollup&Ntx=mode%5Fmatchallpartial&Ns=p%5Fpopular%7C0%7C%7Cp%5Fname%7C0&Ntk=s%5Fsearch

If you live in an area with rock climbing, near the mountains, or just a lot of outdoor activities where it can get cool (or cold) you probably have a store nearby that specilizes in supporting this kind of outdoor activities; which likely has some to look at.

Not exactly what I talked about, but these mention being lightweight with fabric that breathes? http://www.e-omc.com/catalog/products/422/Icebreaker-Bodyfit260-Leggings-Mens.html

LOL, Ellen!  You crack me up!  I don't have any jammie tips because my hubby doesn't wear them either, but, do be sure you don't have flannel sheets on the bed when he is in the mood to wear his jammers.  My dad complains that flannel sheets stretch out his underwear.

I can't think of any mens' p.j.s that wouldn't ride up in the legs.  What about sweatpants with elastic around the ankles?  They don't look like baby clothes!

After almost 30 years together, for every night, no, I can't think of a thing.

PrettyBlues, thank you! but I think he needs long pants. Those would not be much wamer than his skivvies.

perry, thanks! Those sound like a possible option, though a tad pricier than I wanted for just the bottoms. But I will keep them in mind.

Gwen, same with the ones you found, thank you! Also, they say they are a type of wool. I'm wondering if they'd be too warm... ?

Miranda, lol! Yes, we've had flannel sheets in the past, and me and my jammies have had a time or two trying to turn over! Hubby says I turn over a lot in my sleep. Gives "twisted" a whole new meaning.

Thanks again all!

Honestly, I don't know how he's done it all these years. Our room has 2 outside walls, north and west. It's FREEZING!

What about a little heater?  I guess they can be a fire hazard or more blankies? eta sorry, I guess I am going in the opposite direction (I empathize w/your hubby).

My husband and I are PJs collectors. We spend more time in them than any other item of clothing. DH likes thin, cotton, plaid "old man" PJs. They kind of look like these: http://www.figleaves.com/uk/product.asp?product_id=PAS-A8XA-424E-PSW86&mci=&size=&colour=&image=r391582-p600974-front

Light and manly, but I'm not sure about the ride up factor.

He found one that can't catch on fire and does not emit any bad vapors, but it's also 350 bucks (not at the top of the priority list, jammies are cheaper!). And we've got pretty many blankies on now....

Also, I don't want an electric blanket, personal preference.

How about:

1) silk thermals http://www.wintersilks.com/longunderwear/default.aspx?BRANCH=1~&sc=WWEBSEMGLUH08

2) Heated mattress pad (heavenly! -- and available with dual controls)

Good luck!

I forgot about Ralph Lauren jammies.

I know they can be pricey but I received a promo code in my email that is good through 12/8/08 for a 30% savings on all orders (regular or sale priced) and they are also having free shipping right now.

The code is HOL2008 and you enter it during the checkout process and you will see the discount applied.

Ellen,

How about a nice warm Down Comforter for your bed? We have one and it keeps us toasty warm
My DH doesn't wear jammies, he gets too hot, but the comforter is just right.

HAHAHA!!!!  I love union suits!  Well, I only HAD one.  I had to get rid of it a few years ago.  It was a huge baggy flannel number.  DH called it my sexy cat suit because it had wee little kitties on it!  Nothing made my hubby grouchier than seeing me come to bed in the *cat suit*!  Seeeeexaaaaay!

How about:

1) silk thermals http://www.wintersilks.com/longunderwear/default.aspx?BRANCH=1~&sc=WWEBSEMGLUH08

2) Heated mattress pad (heavenly! -- and available with dual controls)

Good luck!

I second the Winter Silks.  I've worn them in the winter for years.  They come in different weights.  I often wear the light-weights as pajamas, or the heavyweights if it is extremely cold.  The heavy weights are a lot less bulky than cotton long underwear.  If he decides he doesn't like them as jammies, they work great as an extra layer under clothes.  Not as bulky as regular long underwear.

I know what you mean about getting older.  I had to break out the electric mattress pad to preheat my bed this winter.  I just can't fall asleep with cold feet.

My hubby doesn't wear them either.    But if you want something nice, try Brooks Brothers?

Ellen: it's cold up her in canuck-land. Our room has 2 outside walls that face the east wind. Hot water heating with radiators around the walls - not always really warm: BRRRRR

We froze for years until we discovered this combination:

Down comforter on top and a Down featherbed on the bottom (it goes under the matress cover just on top of the mattress. (the pic below shows the featherbed on top of the mattress cover: it is better underneath)

Here's a link from The Shopping Channel (CDN version): http://www.theshoppingchannel.com/category/home/bed+%26+bath.do?e=1&N=128358

We actually have 2 different down comforters (2x twin size because I like a heavier one than him)

You can sleep buck naked and still be warm.
