Today my favorite jewelry store had a trunk show with lots of different designers and pieces I had never seen IRL. I got to try on some amazing Stephen Webster(OMG!), pieces from the Kwiat Vintage collection and Alex Sepkus who I love. It was better than any chocolate I have ever tasted! So much fun. They let me keep a couple pieces overnight to show DH. I am thinking of resetting. I know, I am a serial resetter
I thought you guys might like to see.
The platinum piece is Michael B and the gold is Alex Sepkus(but I was thinking of rose gold)

Awesome! I can't believe they let you borrow 'em over night. You must "know" some people...

I am thinking of downsizing my diamond to the michael b in the middle which is 1.5. The flower ring on the left is my current ring, and it is about 2.5, and I think I have always felt it is a little too big for me. My fingers are 4.5 and I think the 1.5 is a nice size for me. The only glitch is that DH is really partial to the original. Any thoughts?

From one serial resetter to another, I totally understand your desire to change it up. What are you hoping to achieve with your reset? Is it mainly that your current ring feels too big for you?

I can't really advise you on the downsizing issue as I tend to like larger stones. I upgraded from a 1.5 ct to a 2.3 and really wish I could have gone just a tad bigger. Just out of curiosity, what are the financial implications of downsizing your stone? Would they credit you the difference?

Are you sure you want a halo? It looks to me like the size of the 1.5 ct in the MB halo is probably about the size of your 2.5 ct without a halo. How about putting your 2.5 ct in a Michael B setting without a halo -- something like the Princess setting? That way you can keep your original stone, but downsize the overall size of your ring. That would be my vote.

I have to agree with Dem.  I think it is the halo on your current stone that makes it look 'too big'.  I bet that stone in a setting without a halo would suit you just right!

Thanks for your responses. I would be credited the rest of the $ (but the michaelb setting is fairly $$$) I really do love halos. I'm not sure about a solitaire; if I would love it as much as a halo. The aspects of my current ring that I don't like besides the size are the shoulders of the ring and all of the prongs keep catching everything. It often ends up looking like a chia pet Another option is to reset my current stone in the Michaelb, and although it will be big, it wont be as big as my current one.

Ha!  I got a kick out of that description but I can see where that would be annoying.  If you really love the halo style, then that's what you need to stick with.  I agree that the MichaelB halo probably won't look as big as your current setting.  Tacori has some very delicate halo styles too.

You're very fortunate to be able to bring those home with you for a trial run.  You really have to wear something for awhile to see if it's exactly what you want.  I should start a rent-a-ring business - then everyone could try what they think they love to see if they really do!

I know it - I am lucky to get a trial run! I like your business plan!
Another thing I don't like about my current ring is the 3 sided micro pave. I learned that I like pave, but not really the micro pave.

I really vote for keeping your current stone. I would be worried that shrinkage would really start to set in going down in weight a full carat. And then you probably wouldn't be able to buy back your stone at the price you bought it however many years ago.

If you really love halo-style rings, how about going for a very thin, delicate halo? Would you be open to having something custom made? The MB is definitely smaller than your current ring, but it's still not what I would call a very delicate halo.

Thanks for your thought Dem! I can keep looking or go custom. It is surprising to me that you don't think the MB is delicate, b/c I thought that it was. Are you thinking more along the lines of a Tacori?

Great idea!
Love the idea of a thin delicate halo with your current stone, sentimentality of the stone is still there, plus you get a change.

I definitely think the MB is more delicate than your current setting, but it doesn't appear to me (at least in that picture) to be as delicate as some I've seen. I think Leon is quite good at haloing larger stones. I just reset my stone and used 23rd Street Jewelers in Santa Monica and saw some very delicate halos there. I think it might be the fact that the MB halo is 3-sided (right?) and I think that adds a bit of bulk to the ring. Don't get me wrong -- it's a beautiful setting, but it sounds like you're really wanting to downsize the overall size of your ring and I'm wondering if you might have better luck with a different designer.

As for Tacori, I'm really not familiar with their rings. I'm not even sure I've ever seen any in person.

Ah, that's helpful. I guess it's not the diameter of the halo that seems especially big, but maybe the height? How do you feel about taller settings? Also, do you like the stone to be set into the halo or sitting a bit above it? I'll be honest and say that I'm drawn to simpler settings, so I think I'd prefer a one-sided halo and one-sided band.

Yah--I like his work a lot! If I was going to get a halo--I'd get a Leon. I also like one sided halos with one sided bands. Simple and elegant.

What do you prefer? What other designers interest you?

I always loved BlackIsland's Tacori halo - it is a three stone ring but you get the idea of how delicate the halo is.

Sorry, I thought I had the link but I don't.  You can do a search under her name and find the ring.

Here it is. . .http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=66651.

I agree -- the halo on that ring is lovely. Personally, I'd prefer a bit less going on in the gallery, but the top view is beautiful.

Coati - I love all of Leon's designs, and his prices are fair too. I am a little shy of his past ps reviews - not his personality, but the loss of stones and then having to find someone else to fix replace them. I love Michaelb, and anything from singlestone, but they don't have any of their settings on line, and I think that their stuff is better complimented with OEC's and OMC's. And I want to stay away from micro pave, but pave is fine.

Dem - I actually do like the depth of the Michael B. I can't explain why, I just do. I don't want the diamond set completely flat in the setting. I think a little above it.
