I am looking at purchasing a ring from a licensed gemologist and was wondering if you could tell me what documentation other than an appraisal I should get if any? Also, if you could give me an idea of what you think the value of ring below is I'd appreciate it. The description on the appraisal is as follows: One lady's platinum engagement ring medium weight mounting, hand finished, weighing approximately 4.9 pennyweights. Center contains one princess cut diamond weighing approximately 2.01 carats, irradiated intense green color and VS-2 clarity. Sides contain forty-four full cut diamonds weighing approximately 48/100 carats total weight, good color and good clarity. |

Not many labs certify color treated diamonds... I would suggest getting an EGL USA report (since they grade set stones). At least you'll know many proportions details --which are very useful... Do you know the measurements? It's very hard to judge a diamond when you have next to nothing... Did you get this data from an appraisal? I would suggest asking about dimensions, Polish, symmetry, table, depth, girdle and culet. These will at least give us a general idea of the diamond, even though in this case it's all about the color... Is it attractive? Do you have a pic??
