Jarsie Rough Rock Total Posts: 24 Last Post: 2/11/2009 Member Since: 11/27/2008	I know this has probably been answered before, but can anyone post what camera's they have used to take pictures of their rings with the macro settings? I am in the market for a new camera. I loved my old digital one. I could zoom in so much farther and the macro settings were fantastic. The newer one, that had the same specs (if not better supposedly) doesn't really preform the way I wanted it to. I usually have to stand so far back and zoom in to get close up shots, which is frustrating. I resale antiques on ebay, and Im frustrated when it takes me way to long to get good pictures. Day light is fading in the evenings much to quickly not to get good pictures. Most of the pictures on here are fantastic, and I take for granted that they are digital. Thanks for any help.

Pandora II Ideal Rock Total Posts: 6,272 Last Post: 11/24/2009 Member Since: 8/3/2006	Canon Rebel xti with macro lens and a light tent. It's somewhat expensive (the lenses bring tears to your eyes) but worth it - and less than Nikon. It also works well in low-light conditions unlike a lot of the cheaper digitals. If you are doing a lot of photography I really recommend getting a digital SLR.

I have the new Canon Rebel XSI (which is a stepup from the XTI..with a much larger screen for viewing)..this is why I thought they discontinued the XTI. Anyhow..I highly recommend the XSI..has every gadget you could possible need (for begginers, intermediate, and even advanced users)

I agree with Pandora 100% My first digital was a Nikon 5700 and my second is a tiny point and shoot Olympus Stylus 770 SW. I must have been on drugs when I bought either one of them. Get the Cannon. Why of why I didn't do this when my work camera that I loved was a cannon goodness only knows. Jarsie Rough Rock Total Posts: 24 Last Post: 2/11/2009 Member Since: 11/27/2008	I may just have to bite the bullet and get a Digital SLR... the other reason I didn't want to, is that if I take it to a concert, they usually don't let you in with "good" camera equipment. There are advantages to this digital age, but yet for some photography, it almost seems better to go traditional 35 mm. I have all the lenses to do that. I don't have the time or money for the development. My brother is a photorgraphy major.. he is way to partial to his own equipment. I can't spend in his price ranges.. I want a ring more than a REALLY nice camera! LOL I have a light tent, but I still prefer natural light. I would like to save and get some nice lights for inside use, but until then, I still take pictures of everything outside. I usually have great afternoon and evening indirect light in my back yard. Thanks for the advice!

DH is waiting for the next version before he upgrades - at which point I get the Rebel and we share the rest of the kit. I also recommend keeping a small point and press around for parties/concerts/general out and about so you don't need a suitcase of equipment everytime you want to take photos.
