Hello,

Everyone is sooo knowledgeable and helpful here and I am stumped....

I am looking for websites, starving artists shows or anywhere to purchase impressionist oil paintings..

I have looked at the local craiglists and nothing. And I would have thought cleveland would have some kind of starving artists shows but none in a year! Art.com is waaay overpriced. Nothing on Ebay interests me as of yet.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Cynthia

I would stop by some gallery's or call up the local university/college to see if they have a student art show or something??  Some friend I have are now well known arts but they sold some of their work in school.

Furniture resalers. I have gotten 2 very good deals here in dallas. One was an original oil that appraised for $75K when I paid $1500 for it. The other was an original poster from the Moulin Rouge that I sold for $2500 after having paid $500 for it.

www.novica.com

Run by national geographic, has all kinds of paintings from all over the world. You can search by type of painting, area of the world, color, size, price point, etc. I got a great abstract oil painting for my fiance (and now me, hehe) from there for a really reasonable price. They arrange it so that the artist gets a greater proportion than they normally would (due to resellers, etc, exporting them) which makes it a good deal AND a feel good thing for the artists.

I just looked on there quickly and there are a lot of impressionist paintings. Take a look, and let us know if you find anything! I liked this one: http://paintings.novica.com/impressionist-paintings/landscape-paintings/full-moon-night/124898/

PS I think right now they are even having free shipping on a lot of paintings.

My favourite painting is one I bought when I went to Italy. There were tons of street artists and this one painting really stood out to me. It was really easy to carry back because I bought it out a frame and the artist carefully rolled the canvas and put it in a tube for me. It you travel at all I'd look at street artists. Etsy is also very good.

Maybe you don't want to wait this long, but if you live in the Cleveland area (I asume as in Cleveland, Oh lol) there are many wonderful outdoor art shows in that area over the summer.  There is also the Ann Arbor art fair which takes place in Michigan every July.  I think it may be the largest art fair in the country now.  (something like 1800 exhibitors)  I much prefer buying my art from an artist rather than from a website.  Oh yes, I just remembered there is an art show called "Winterfair" this coming weekend in Columbus.  Small by comparison to the summer shows, but they have some nice things.
