I'm looking for suggestions of red and white wine to serve at my wedding. What are your favorites for under $10 a bottle. We figure we're going through MANY bottles so don't want something too expensive, but we want it to be good wine as well. We know what we like but would love to know what others like since it won't just me and my fi drinking it all Thanks!!!

I like the Schmitt Soehne riesling for white under $10. It's usually like $7 a bottle. http://www.schmitt-soehne.com/mainframe.asp?lang=de&e1=634 For red I like: Red Bicyclette Syrah: http://marketviewliquor.com/index-id-56495-a-1.01.html?utm_source=googlebase&utm_medium=organic Pepperwood Syrah: http://www.thewinebuyer.com/sku20102.html?utm_source=Google%20Products&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=PEPPERWOOD%20GROVE%20SYRAH%202005 And Cavas de Chacras Merlot (which is often under $10 around here but couldn't find it online for less than $14): http://traderiverwinery.com/wine/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=66

Ooh, great thread! I'm currently a Prosecco fanatic. My favourite is Martini and Rossi, which is slightly out of your range (it's $12 per bottle, which for a delicious sparkling wine is darn good!). A good choice for crowds I think is Mionetto "Il Prosecco". It's much nicer to drink than champagne, especially cheap champagne.

For a white, try the King Shag Sauvignon Blanc at Trader Joe's. It's $7 or $8 depending on where you live and it's really tasty. ETA: For a sparkling wine, I second the Prosecco suggestion. I know that Cost Plus World Market has a couple that are tasty and I believe they're under $10. It is a little bit sweeter than Champagne as a rule, but in a good way. - |

Do you have a Trader Joes that sells wine near your home? They have tons of bottles for under $10. When I had a housewarming party last August I stocked up at the TJs closest to my parents house that sells wine. I purchased 19 bottles for $135. Some of them were horrible but others had me stunned that I could taste something so good with a price tag so low. Of course I can't remember the names of the ones I couldn't stand but most are cheap enough to take a chance and buy some to try at home before you commit to a whole case or two. I am not into white wine but my favorite red was a Beringer Cabernet Sauvignon (there are many different bottles of Beringer Cab around, I'm sorry that I can't remember the year or if there was "founders estate" or some other second name for it) with a price tag of $7 or $8 (can't remember specifically). I will be stocking up on a case of this when I head up to my parents house this coming weekend. I also quite liked the Black Mountain Pinot Noir. I am picky with pinots because I like a more full bodied wine and some of them are just too thin for me but this one was pretty tasty. I believe it was only $6. TJs also has a wide selection of italian reds. I picked up a $5 one. I am horrible at figuring out Italian wine labels but this one seems to be Ruggero di Sasso (winemaker) and the blend is Nero d'Avola. I would say that for $5 this is a pretty darn good table wine. Check out this link to find some of the stores. If you click on the link for your region a PDF of locations pops up. Stores marked with an asterisk DON'T carry wine. Link to Trader Joes Locations You could probably find some of these wines elsewhere but I would be willing to bet that the best deal is as Trader Joes. ***-**-*-**-*** |

Here are what we consider to be best buys (balancing quality and cost). I also included the Wine Spectator rating. I have come to trust their ratings/reviews above others. We buy from a place that gives you a 10% discount if you buy by the case. I'm sure other places do this as well. These have been consistently good throughout the years... Some others we like... These were a bit more and rated lower, but we liked them (can't remember the vintage though)...

If you live near any wineries you enjoy I would highly recommend talking to your favorite about making a bulk purchase, usually they will give you a discount, especially if you are a member of their wine club.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I will defiantly try some of these out, I mean you can never do too much taste testing right? And I sooo wish I lived near a trader joe's, but unfortunately I don't. Every time we are near one when we travel we go to it to pick up snacks and what not though. Are these labels trader joe brands or restricted to only trader joe stores?

I have tried some of the stuff that has their name on the label and it was OK. I've seen Beringer elsewhere but I'm not positive if it was the same exact bottle. I am going to stock up next week so I will let you know exact details on the bottle I was referring to. I'm hoping that if it was $8 in TJs it will only be $10-$11 elsewhere. I just realized I posted the wrong name of the Italian maker of that $5 table wine. Its actually Ruggero di Tasso, not Sasso... Whoops. I just found this wine blog that mentions a different vintage of this bottle and they've listed it as under $10. It might help you find other affordable options (if you trust their reviews, of course everyone's palate is different). Wine Blog ***-**-*-**-*** |

I personally love Relax. It's a white Riesling and it's so delicious! I think it's like 8 dollars a bottle and it has a fruity taste. It would make a really excellent desert wine if that's what you're looking for :) I'm definitely getting it for our wedding haha

Unfortunately, the King Shag is a Trader Joe's exclusive. What stores do you have in your neighborhood? Costco sometimes has good wine deals, as does BevMo.

I recently discovered a nice pinot noir that is $10 and is available cheaper if on sale. It's called Lulu B. and is a French wine. I was pleasantly surprised that it was good! I have found it at a couple different fruit markets. They have white wine too but I have never tried them.

Copper ridge Merlot (or Cabernet). We buy it by the case (its about $7.00 per bottle, $72.00 p/case). Good luck on your wine quest. :) LL

We went to a local liquor store, one of those gigantic stores with just about anything your heart could desire, and they let us try a variety of wines to figure out what we wanted to serve at our wedding. I would recommend doing something like that. They really knew what they were doing. ********************************************************** |
