Pick up your ring or make a flight?

Husband and I were heading to Vegas on Friday afternoon at 3:00 pm. He really wanted to give me my ring on this trip but the jeweler could not promise a due date. BTW, he saw the wax a few weeks ago and was just thrilled with the ring. Anyway, we were airport bound and the call came in, "your ring is ready." We just looked at each other, looked at the clock and knew that we weren''t going to make the flight if we went downtown (SF) to pick up the ring. He even called to see if the flight was delayed and it was still showing on time. We got to the airport only to find out that our flight was an hour delayed! I was so bummed I wanted to cry

. Oh well, Vegas was fabulous, did a little shopping, ate too much, drank too much and I almost caved and bought a Hermes Birkin but it was in purple, couldn''t do it. I love Vegas, can''t wait to go back in January. We stayed at the Bellagio but found ourselves spending a lot more time at Ceasars, which has the best shopping.

The ring is going to have to wait a week. When we landed this afternoon, husband caught a flight to New York for a conference. He said I could go pick it up, but I am going to wait until he comes home this weekend. Trust me, patience is not a virtue of mine. I might have to go look at it .

Two funny things did happen. On Saturday night hubby and I went back to the Hotel after a yummy dinner at Nobu. We changed into comfy clothes which for me was a pair of juicy sweats and a henley. The only shoes I packed were too high and too formal so I went to the casino bairfooted. David got a call so I went down by myself and sat at the bar and waited for him. A guy sat at the stool next to me and we just started to talk, he works for Janet Jackson but is doing something for Kenny G. He bought me a drink and a shot and we started to talk. He noticed that I was bair foot and he said, "come on, lets go for a walk." I told him that I was waiting for my husband and that he should be here in a minute. He said, "I want to take you to Chanel and buy you a bair of shoes." I looked at him and said, "are you crazy?" He smiled and said, "I''m serious, you can''t be strolling the Bellagio bairfoot, let''s go, it will only take a minute." Needless to say I didn''t go with him and he soon took off.

I then ventured over to the craps table (bairfoot) and this guy started to win big. Soon everyone started to crowd this one table and he started asking me to roll the dice, blow on them etc...well I wanted to leave after 15 minutes and he said, "you can''t leave. I have been on a roll since you joined the table, you can''t leave now." Sure enough, this guy starts winning and we are soon joined by "management" of Bellagio. About 25 minutes pass and I just want to leave so I tell him that I''m leaving. He said okay, let me cash out and at least buy you a drink. I tell him that I don''t need a drink and congratulate him on a successful table. The cashier tells him, "not a bad 45 minutes Chris...$4,500." I ask him what he does and he says, "I''m a professional poker player." I go back to the bar and wait for my husband and he sends over a glass of champagne which was very nice.

When I connect with my husband one hour later I tell him what happens and all he can say is, "you turned down a pair of shoes?"

I love Las Vegas.

I would, like you, not have, but then kicked myself later! But you do not want to look odd either! I also agree, no purple Hermes bags...though I am not a purple fan usually so I am not a good judge. The funkiest I would go is blue jean...I have a red and a black, the red is that dark rouge hermes and I love it. I want camel or chocolate brown next...but purple is a bit much for me. Good luck and can''t wait to hear about the ring...you are being so good to be patient!

I was just wrapping up my PS time to go to bed but your story made me laugh so hard!!!

I LOVE shoes and purses so bad my girlfriend and my son seriously call me a "serial shoe and purse addict" so for me, getting a free pair of shoes would have been a huge temptation and I think I might have finangled a way to get them without "obligation" owed to the givee...if you catch my drift...

...

My hubby knows how much I love shoes and he, too, would have been in shock that I didn''t go for the shoes...but I am proud of you for staying strong!

LOL! "You turned down a pair of shoes?"

What was the movie where the gal sleeps with Robert Redford for a million dollars? That''s what I''m thinking of. "Honey, I''ll brb. Trust me it''s worth it for a pair of shoes!"

ooohhhh...Too bad about the shoes!!! Tough call, but I''m sure your hubby appreciated your restraint even if he didn''t admit it. I would have had a really hard time turning down free Chanel shoes!!! But like they say, nothing is free in life, so chances are you would have had to pay the price somehow.

First of all I AM SO EMBARASSED! I spelt bare foot BAIRFOOT! What was I thinking? All I can think is that it was late and I was tired. So sorry!

You guys are so funny! If Mr. Craps Man tossed me a $500 chip I gladly would have taken it so what does that say

I am dying for my ring. No, I haven''t dropped by to see it or even peek at it. Trust me, I was at H&M today and I was going to go look at it but my friends told me to wait.

Mara, it''s a new piece, but it has been in the works since the summer. My husband wanted to get me a Mother''s Ring of some sort and it morphed from a pink sapphire and red ruby ring to "this." I haven''t seen any part of the ring whatsoever. Only the design on paper. I didn''t even get to preview the was which is scary. I have been told by David that I will love it. I am a little scared to tell you the truth but I''m sure it will be an absolutely gorgeous ring.

I promise pictures....

That was a great story! I would''ve taken the shoes!! I''m addicted to shoes more than any other type of clothing! Sounds like such a fun trip. I love Vegas.

I can''t wait to see your ring.

Susi, just revisited this after a long absence! You tease!! I really want camel or blue jean next, maybe camel since it is more basic...my husband thinks they are a joke between the wait list and the cost but...what can I say? I buy into it no issue!

What a wonderful thread! Some of my favorite things were mentioned - jewelry, downtown SF, Vegas, Chanel, and HERMES BIRKIN!! What restraint you have! That man would have had me following him at "Chanel" ...but only for the shoes. And then I''d split!

I would''ve thought the poker player would''ve handed you a chip, though!

To answer your original question - I think I would have gone to the airport like you did. Your ring will always be there, but that plane would have waited for no one if it was on time. What a way to start a trip! Can''t wait to see your ring, hope it''s on your finger soon!

I know, I can''t believe I turned down a pair of shoes from Chanel and I can''t believe that the Professional Poker Player didn''t throw me a chip (I would have taken the chip

I love my ring, I still haven''t posted pictures yet but I will get around to it. I am very technically challenged when it comes to my digital camera.

CFemme, I have a Rouge Vif Birkin from 1996 that is pretty worn but I still love it. I have no regrets not picking up the purple one as it was just too loud.

As much fun as it would have been to get the shoes, my guess is the guy would have expected ''something'' in return. I haven''t met a guy yet in life who didn''t want something in return for a lot less than a pair of Chanel shoes. haha.
But I am glad you had fun. Can''t wait to see the ring.
I had a guy toss me a $100 chip once at the craps table for winning him a bunch of money.

My favorite craps story though is the time I was at the table and a couple of guys came up all excited because they had found a $100 chip. We were all winning pretty good and they had it up to something like $2k pretty fast. They were betting big because, after all, it wasn''t their money. But, they got greedy and when the table turned sour, they kept trying to win it back. I think they lost most of it in the end.
