hi itzamna23 and welcome

the ring looks very lovely from the pictures. what information do you want to know? Is it for sale and you''re thinking about buying it, is it a family heirloom? Just curious what direction you want us to go

Yeah I should have explained that haha. I am looking to possibly purchase this ring, but I am not sure. I am in graduate school and on a budget. My girlfriend likes the antique type rings so.. this one is 850.00. Thanks!

I'm partial to the design myself.

Is that a yellow diamond or another gemstone? It's lovely although in an ideal world (to me) the halo would be a little smaller. However, it does take up more finger real estate this way. The price could be right, depending!

It''s a pretty style. My only concern is that the halo diamonds look a bit dull, even with what appears to be light shining on it. Above all esle, even within your budget, you want to make sure that whatever you get has some sparkle.....women like sparkle.

Do they give you any color/clarity stats on the melee? I am assuming the 0.7 ct and VS1 is the yellow diamond? Have you seen it in person, or just on a website? What is the return policy?

That''s kinda why I was asking whether it was a diamond or another gemstone.

It is off a website, I was thinking the same thing about the price...it is from an estate sale.

What''s the return policy? It could be worth checking out if the return policy is good. You could then see it for yourself (are the melee dirty in the picture, or not sparkling like they do in person, or included or cut badly), and get everything checked out during the return period. It could be a lovely ring - if you can see it in person and check it out. If there are no returns, I would be wary.

Thanks guys! I wont purchase it then, there is no return policy. So what is a good ring for a small budget? I could pay up to 5,000 if I do a purchase plan, about 2000 with no purchase plan. Thanks!

Yeah, I was thinking the same as FG...the melee look either dirty or just plain bad cut and clarity.

The products from this company are well regarded here. I have dealt with them (not for a ring though) and they have been delightful.

The rings Julie poste are gorgeous, in your budget, and the style your girlfriend likes...I''d look into them!

I edited this thread because I misinterpreted what you were saying about the Tiffany ring and getting the Legacy confused with another design.

Regarding the ring you posted, I will be honest and agree with the others that I think the melee diamonds look dull, and overall the ring looks sort of blah. It is a nice design, just not quite executed right. Perhaps keep searching?

Yes, they are a great price...Facets is having a sale until the end of the month. A good, heavy, platinum halo setting probably would cost you about 2K alone (center stone not included.) So I think it's a good deal!

But if you'd rather have something else...

I don't know which Legacy she likes, the regular one or the graduated one?

Regular http://www.tiffany.com/expertise/diamond/rings/engagement_legacy_ring.asp?ring=legacy&
Adwar http://www.adwar.com/products/catalog19/page_1117/index.html

Graduated http://www.tiffany.com/expertise/diamond/rings/engagement_legacy_ring.asp?ring=side&

I think she likes the ones with the side stones, not the regular legacy. What are the Adwar links? Do you buy the setting there? Sorry I am new at this. Also the estate ring is very very nice, do you think the 0.4 diamond is too small?

It's small, but it's bezel set into a nice large halo so it should look bigger than it is that's the nice thing about halos. Also .4 is just the center. The ring you posted was 70 point... but the center doesn't look bigger than this one and this one is .72 point. And you can buy it outright. And, IMO it's a good price for the set... a setting like that alone could cost you 1.5 in platinum. I'd call them and ask them if they'd consider going down to 1,800 if your interested.

If you are going to finance you can get a bigger diamond, because well, 5K is a good budget. Don't know who finances online... you'd have to ask about that. Firenze has some nice low cost settings... let me see what I find. Would it be possible for you to just buy the setting and finance the diamond??

This one is legacy-esq.

Also, just throwing this out there... but have you thought about maybe just getting her a nice 1 carat solitare for 5000K and having it re-set later when you can afford it? Any Legacy type setting is going to run you around $2000 just for the setting. If it were me, personally, I'd rather have a nice solitare now, and change the setting later when I could afford it (actually this is exactly what we did). For under 2K you can get a nice .5 carat or .7 carat diamond and a simple solitare setting.

I think those signed pieces options are GREAT--definitely more sparkly than the first one (ITA--lovely style, dead-seeming melee.)

Now when you say the legacy w/ sidestones, do you mean this one?

Yep thats the one, I think you are right about waiting for the setting and getting a nice diamond. I did find this on blue nile, not sure how that website is but what do you think?

This 18K White Gold Setting With Pavé-Set Diamonds (1/5 ct. tw.) has a 1.04 carat Princess-Cut center diamond with Good-cut, J-color, and SI2-clarity. With this setting choice, the total carat weight of diamonds for your ring is 1.24.

3,000.

I''d be worried about the J color and the SI2 in a princess cut stone. they tend to show color and inclusions much more easily than a round.
