Hi Ladies,

I need help deciding if I should get a 2 or 2.5ct round solitaire. I'd love to see your beautiful solitaire rings! Please let me know what size the ring is and what size the diamond is. Also, do you feel ring size can affect how big you feel the stone looks?

Thanks for your help and can't wait to see them! :)

Kellfizzell,
oh wow I love the proportions of that stone on your hand.
It also faces up so white in the photos. What vendor did you get it from?
Wear it in good health!

Here are a couple of mine. Ring size 5.5 and the diamond is 2.3 cts and 8.4mm. The diamond is an AVR which is a new European cut, so it is a little deeper than an ideal cut round. So it is about the size of a 2.2 ct ideal cut round. This is an anniversary ring for me. My original was 1 ct. so this seems large to me! Yes, ring size makes a difference in size perception. Stone height makes a difference, too. Setting a stone medium height is best, in my opinion, as too low can make a stone look smaller and too high can put the diamond in more danger of being hit on things.

Hi here is my 2.73 I Si2. Size 6 ring. I definitely think ring size has an impact. When my friend with a size 4 wears my ring it looks huge on her. On me i feel like it looks much smaller, but i of course am in love with it!image_3926.jpgimage_3925.jpgimage_3924.jpgimage_3923.jpgimage_3921.jpgimage_3918.jpgimage_3916.jpg

I love this! Goes so well on you!

@nycspring - do you have a knife edge? If so, what do you like about it as opposed to a typical rounded/flat band?

I agree the size of your finger and how high the setting is placed change the appearance of the size of the center stone. I have a 2.55 carat and size 4.25 finger. Personally I do not think this size is too big for me. I'd always love to go bigger!

Yes, my ring has a knife edge. I mainly chose this setting because I love the profile view, height, and prong tips. I'd be happy with a rounded band as well, but that would have been an adjustment to the Vatche U113 setting and I didn't want to 'fix what ain't broke'. :)

Thank you so much, i got it from a local store in NYC, ultimate jewelry design. Lately thinking i might want to reset it with a halo, eeek  heres some new xmas pictures!

You should do what you want, but your ring is a BEAUTIFUL modern classic and the perfect size on your hand, and I think a halo would detract from it.

Here is my 2.24 in case you decide to go in the middle. It is on a size 6 finger.

Nala, I'm loving this new look for your stone. The profile is taunting me, particularly the beautifully interesting prongs. Could you indulge in a side view please? Thank you!!! :wavey:

Thanks so much! My diamond is an August Vintage OEC, also called August Vintage Round. Jonathan does not carry a lot of stones in stock, but he can have them custom cut any time.

There is also a thread on this site that shows a lot of his newly cut vintage style stones:

Best to start near the end and see the more recent ones from the last few years.

Oh this is my favorite thread! I am debating between 2.5-2.75 and am worried 2.75 will look too big. Thoughts? There is certainly move inventory in the 2.5 range but I am looking at a 2.66 right now.

@foodie100 what's your ring size? For me on a 6-6.5 ring size 2.66 would be almost big enough but I would love a 5 carat, so you get the idea it's totally depends on ring size and how comfortable you are wearing any size if under 1 carat or over 2.5
