Thanks, Mara! Dad knew NOTHING about diamonds. He was lucky to follow the advice of the jeweler (a fellow Rotarian) who strongly urged him to purchase this ring. None of us had ever even heard of asschers before. We knew it was "different" from most ECs we''d seen, but had no idea that the cut had a name. I remember once being in a jewelry store with my Mom and asked the sales clerk about the cut: She suggested it might be a "cushion cut"! Times they have changed!![]() widget |

Thanks, Libster!
....but NO WAY!! I like to imagine that if I spread them around a little, people won't notice that I'm CERTIFIABLY INSANE!!![]() Hey...I have a question: This is the first time I've really "looked" at the stats from a PS perspective. I've always thought this stone was particularly fat. Are the depth/table numbers normal, or startling (71.6% / 61%)??? widget (Edited to Add:) Another question! Do you think if this stone had been cut today, they would have done it differently to get it over the magic "4ct" number? Was weight/value as big a deal in the 20-30s as it is today?? |

Some of the best asschers, SE''s and emerald cuts I have ever seen had depths in the 75% range. While its out of the range of modern asscher/se and emerald cuts a little its well within the great range of the classics. |

Yes it would have been and look a lot worse likely too. The added price would be way too hard to pass up even if they had to cut it badly to get it. |

This is interesting ! and I have no idea... It would take allot more experience about cut fashion then and now to answer this, and a hint about what the piece of rough looked like. Weight recovery would have been priority then as now, but hitting the full four carat mark down to 1% precission might have not. This is something I would like to know (an possibly find some evidence of) myself. Wonerful stone
