The background is tooth brush handles that were placed far enough behind the ring so they'd be out of focus to provide a soft background.
Putting blur in a pic makes the focused part seem even more sharp, and the contrast in sharpness gives the pic what I call POP.

Awww, thanks Lauren. Yes, I did see my wedding set in this thread, right in alphabetical order. The funny thing about my rings is that my sister is the one who discovered Van Craeynest back when she was a teenager, and always thought she''d get one of their rings when she got married. Fast-forward a decade or so when I was looking for my rings and she gave me *permission* to go with VC when, after lots of search, they were the only ones I really wanted. When she finally got married, as you can see, she ended up with the custom route!

Well, if you're gonna post that one, taken at the restaurant during the LA GTG, we must show what made such a sharp, high-magnification, several-second exposure possible on the fly in soft dim natural light . . . using the camera's timer to take the pic and Kenny's trademarked Wine Glass Sugar Packet-Adjustable Tripod.

I'll tell you what, though - it's a brave man who puts his Nikon D200 on top of a wine glass to use as a tripod!!!
