I say 'Herrmezzz' as the French do, some say 'air mess,' so yes I know of 2 different pronunciations too!

Lately I''ve been hearing a lot of "errmezzz" though I remember hearing plain old her-mees mostly before that.

Hmmm it comes out kind of like "urrrRRRrrr-may". I've heard 'hermees' fairly often. But then Irish people pronounce 'vehicle' as 'vitticle'
20.gif

I saw this girl on America's Next Top Model one time and they had her reading off an autocue - she had to list off a load of designers and Hermés was on the list - she pronounced it 'herpes'!

I think I like your phonetic spelling better than mine...I''m not very good at it. I couldn''t figure out the g part. Eh. I''m still lost.

Delster, I saw that episode of ANTM. It was hilarious!

and, I go with errmezz, but the "err" is like the word "err" so it sounds more like airmezz.

How bout Ralph Lauren, is "Lauren" like "Lauren Conrad" or "Sophia Loren"?

I say it like "Lauren Conrad". (which to me is correct because when I sold RL stuff that''s what the rep told me it was.)

Hermes has me stumped because the way you should pronounce it in French is not the way they pronounce it in Hermes stores.

Lancome = Lan-comb

Yeah I would say I say it "errmezzz" or "airmezzz"

I was telling the boyfriend about Hermes the other day. And he looks at me with this cute scrunched up face and says "Whaaat? What the heck is that?" haha it was the cutest thing.

OH, fabulous idea!!! I''m always afraid of making a complete @$$ of myself because of this!

Here are my pronunciations for the ones mentioned:

Air-mezz

Lancomb

Ralph Luh-REN

Jzuh-VOHN-shee (but I have no freakin clue if that''s even close)

Carty-AY

Oh - and DH makes fun of me because he says I''m the only person in Iowa who says "Pore-sha" and "Jag-you-ar"

Here are the ones that I always freak out if I have to say them:

Yves St. Laurent (Eevs? Ehvs? Yeevs? Ives?)

Christian Loubatin (Loo-bah-teen? Loo-bah-tawn? lOW [like in Matt Lauer] bah-something?)

Bulgari...is it phonetic? And why do they stick the V in there for the U? Bull-gahree or Bool-gahree?

I have a Francesco Biasia bag and I always wonder if I''m pronouncing it right - Fran-CHESS-ko Bee-YAH-see-yuh?

Anyone have one for shu uemera?

So cool! Let me tell you guys, sometimes I thought taking 4 years of French in high school was a mistake, but I have used it countless times working in retail and it was definitely not a mistake, LOL!

That''s how I say it... no idea if it''s right. It''s not quite a G or a J or a Z... Jzuh sounds closest to how I say it.

I''ve been embarassed to look for a new watchband because I didn''t know if I should be asking for skaw-gen or skay-gen for Skagen- I say SKAWgen.

As for the others...

AIR mez

LAWN-comb

Ralph LOR-en

EVES sayn lor ahn

car tee AY

CHristian Luh boo tawn

fran chess ko bee ah see uh

bul gar ee... not quite bull and not quiet bool for me, though closer to bull

shoo oo mair uh?

What about Anna Sui? is it swee?

Here''s the insider info on Ralph Lauren - FI is a graphic artist for their design team, and it''s Lauren like "foreign," not "lauRENN." On FI''s first day, his coworkers pointed out the fact that Ralph isn''t French. Hope this helps!
