Has anyone heard of or tried the Magic Jack telephone/PC adapter? Supposedly, you plug the phone jack into your PC and plug a phone into it and never have monthly phone bills...I think there is a once a year charge of $20, or SLT.

I am intrigued by this and wondered if it''s worth a try? We have Vonage right now and it''s just ''eh'' quality and service...but I liked the fact that we could keep our old phone number...we''d have to get a new one with this Magic Jack thingie.

Here''s the website for reference.

I have it and the call quality has been indistinguishable from a landline. I do have a problem where my fiance's computer it's plugged into resets and I don't have the password to bring it back up....that's a personal problem though :)

We only had cell phones before, so if you are like us it's a great cheap addition. Agree the 911 is an issue, if I had kids I'd have a landline for that reason.

We tried it and the quality was BAD! We returned it and now have Ooma which works pretty well.
