Re: Question for Diamondseeker?

I see what you are meaning about 18 carat gold. I have seen antique rings here with just the word PLAT on them. Don't know what they are. Over here we have a hallmark which is a pentagon shape with 950 inside it. This is what all platinum rings sold in the UK have. You can't buy platinum here that i...

Re: Question for Diamondseeker?

I thought the alloy people asked for here was 900 plat 10 irridium.

It is strange to me because in the UK an item cannot be hallmarked platinum unless it is 950 platinum. So 900 platinum rings over here are not considered platinum.

Also a tilt fish eye is not as bad as a fisheye through the table face up.

Re: Old cut experts, a disappearing partial fish eye?

Fish eye is the reflection of the girdle inside the table facet due to shallow cut. The pavillion angle may be shallower on one side of the stone than the other. One of the experts will chime in as not sure if I am 100% correct.

Re: 14KY or 14KW for pendant mounting with FIYs?

I would get the pendant in the same metal as the new bracelet would be. Not so much to match in wearing it but it would be because the parcel of diamonds was rare to find with the matching stones plus rare color. I would want it to look all the same to reflect that. What about a y style pendant if t...

Re: Why the 'transparency' difference here?

Inclusions can reflect so the clouds could reflect and fill up the transparent areas of the diamond to the eye.

Re: Diamond Traded In - Was It Worth It?

If you are intending to trade up with an online vendor when you go for another stone it would have been better to have bought this one from them. Not sure if they allow you to trade in a stone not bought from them. Does your new diamond have a GIA certificate as most places doing trade ins would wan...

If you google diamond size chart there are lots of them, don't know how accurate but some have the mm measurement too.

Your ring is beautiful and looks the size it should for the cut shape. Love the split shoulders too.

Re: Small pink diamond solitaire (not engagement) is it wort

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions. Love the look of the diamond but think it is too small at 19 points and only wanted a solitaire or with metal work around or two little diamonds. Will have to think about it. The I2 also puts me off but that is a large spot which doesn't seem to stand out i...

Re: Help with pink diamond CVB CADS, please- Gypsy, DS, Chro

It is beautiful. I really love the view from the size where the top of the ring looks like it slopes down. Never seen that before and it looks really classy, like it had come from a big diamond house design. I don't often like cads when I first see them and then do when everyone has chipped in and t...

Re: at what size would you switch to a CS

Dark sapphires aren't very pretty. Why buy cheap ugly sapphires when you can buy manmade ideal colored sapphires? Probably roughly the same price, and you can probably charge more for them because they are pretty. They've been around for a long, long time, you just haven't noticed them until now. :n...

Re: at what size would you switch to a CS

I do also think part of the problem, once people get to CS, is the way Pricescope regulars work. We usually point out all the ways something deviates from perfection/trade ideal and then are like "DO YOU STILL LIKE IT NOWWWWWW" which is fine for US because we know that you should always b...

Re: at what size would you switch to a CS

Personally if my budget was $300 for an e-ring, it had to be a solitaire as opposed to a band, and I had to BUY NOW so couldn't hunt or buy used, I would go for a synthetic sapphire or moissanite (could you even get a moissy solitaire for $300?). Durable enough for daily wear, a color I like, etc.&...

Re: at what size would you switch to a CS

Alexandrite is my birthstone. I got a little third carat one with very small diamond size stones, it cost about $700. It is a beautiful green and changes to another color not sure what it is blue or maybe a bit of purple in it. I wanted an alexandrite, and it is just a fun right hand ring to me. I w...

Re: at what size would you switch to a CS

Although there are a lot of colored stones to choose from the difficulty is too that only ones that are a 9 on the moh's scale and some 8s are suitable for engagement rings as they are softer and so scratch and then lose their beauty unless they were dismounted and polished. 9s are either sapphire o...

Re: at what size would you switch to a CS

I think that the $300 colored stone is much the same as the cheap mall diamond of maybe 15 points or 30 point very included. I used to like cheap colored stones and have some I thought they were a lovely color, these were cheap sapphires etc. However once you hang around the colored stones forum you...

Re: Diamond upgrade worth it?

A Cutter would tell you but going under 2 carats loses a lot of money and especially with a D to F collection color grade, not sure about the clarity aspect though but don't recut without checking that issue out with them.

Re: Small pink diamond solitaire (not engagement) is it wort

Not sure if I am right, but think from looking around a 0.25ct is over $10,000. There is a nice colored 19 point one on James Allen but it is an I2 which I know is not unheard of as color is what is most important in colored diamonds, this one is over $6000. I am veering towards it being too expensi...

Re: Source stone or let jeweler do it?

I know there are stones at all price points which are worth that amount of money. My concern is that the jeweler will source a $1.5k stone, add $1k to the price to make a profit and then offer it to me for $2.5k. In which case I'd be better off buying my own stone and taking it to the jeweler to be...

Re: Source stone or let jeweler do it?

You will still need to get some knowledge yourself and make the purchase yourself ofcourse. More educated the better stone for ...

Just looking through some post on sapphire and in this one slksapphire (who has the beautiful stone) and got a gemologist to look for her stone is saying that $2000/per carat for a heated stone is the very minimum. So that would be $4000 for a 2 carat stone. http://www.pricescope.com/forum/colored-s...

I would think the one quoted as commercial quality is what they believe or have experience in the store that most people would buy for a 2 carat solitaire. Small pink diamond solitaire (not engagement) is it worth it

Was thinking about a small diamond solitaire but wondering if cost of it is too much for size? This would be a diamond which looks pink not subtle that you need to look. Re: which 1.4 do I choose? need to pull the trigger tonight

I like the more classic look, in the ideal scope you can see white dots all round the diamond inside the edge. This is thought to provide contrast. When a diamond has slight painting or digging these white dots are red, this gives more of a flash of the edge of the diamond, more like the diamond fla...

I think they would look good together. I only think when a stone gets past maybe the half carat mark though that you would see the facets of the older cut with the naked eye. You would have the square shape though. I think you may be better to go with single cut stones if you want an old look sparkl...
