Re: Acinom's Adventures - 2016 edition

Oh and I have just noticed the graduated bits from the inner ring side view, love this too, like it goes up in stages and you cannot even really appreciate it unless the ring is off your finger. He seems to think of everything. His proportions are perfect and I still love my two rings I got him to m...

Re: Acinom's Adventures - 2016 edition

I love your Bionic ring. I love how Alistair makes the ring so wide but not too clumsy looking and it looks so unique with the pressed bits of colour. Really like Alistair Kelsey's designs.

Re: Lost Ring- Please Advise Me What I should do

The seller and I did agreed that we had no doubt that the jeweler/bench did put the ring inside the jewelry box. Why did you agree with this? So if the parcel has no signs of being tampered with and it is not you, of course, then who is it? The seller or someone else who works with him or is it los...

Re: Antique cushion cut pricing

Actual antique cushions, not modern reproductions of, (of a decent cut quality and in colorless range HIJ) are actually more expensive than modern cushions due to rarity. Many higher color antique cushions were recut. I took me 5 years (after some honing of my tastes) to find my holy grail antique ...

Re: Sharing the direction I'm headed with new rings

I see style as personal taste, growing up in the UK all I ever saw was wide wedding bands with narrow engagement rings. Although these dainty rings are in just now, in another 5 years the more elaborate large metal look style will probably be back. I love your first photo Mrs T and as you said you h...

Re: 6th Annual PriceScope GTG in Las Vegas

Love the rings picture. Did anyone own two or more of these rings or are they all one ring per individual. Also, what size is that diamond next to Diamondseeker2006's ring, because we know DS does not have a small stone. Must be about 7 carats or something. Marymm I know the feeling. Just have to pu...

Re: Replacing blahhhh melee with top quality in a cocktail r

I would leave it as it is, it does look very white which is better than most mall grade looks. The design is lovely, not sure I would care for more sparkle, though it would be lovely, but even if there was none really, the pattern and how white the stones look would be enough for me. Looks beautiful...

I was thinking that is what this old thread was meaning and thought I read before about them using light devoid of Ultra Violet rays.

Re: Difference specs on AGS preliminary report and final rep

Don't think the fluorescence has anything to do with it as I remember reading that GIA grades stone color under a special light which removes the affect of fluorescence. Diamonds with fluorescence only look whiter in light with that aspect in it, like the sun or disco lighting.

Re: Octavia Performance vs Size

Plus for all customers reading this, I remember on the old photos from one of the JCK shows in Vegas that there was a GIA stand and it was Oldminer himself which they had staffing it :read:

Re: Octavia Performance vs Size

Just been on Oldminer's site and notice he does a service of judging a few diamonds from online reports only as well as local stones. His full appraisal service is another item in his fees and more expensive for the amount of work it entails doing a full appraisal. Ofcourse, if looking at Good Old G...

Re: Dilemma: Should I sell my diamond?

Type IIa is very rare and isn't the diamond like the Golconda ones where there is a different kind of transparency like a clear ice cube I think it has been described. Would this not mean it would be very hard to replace this diamond again on top of the Flawless attribute. Sound like you are not too...

Re: Tiffany laser inscription hidden under prong?

Remember loupes used for clarity are only 10x magnification, you can get higher magnification like 20x which means you have to hold the item up to the loupe very close to your eye. A microscope will be needed for this if folk say it takes 30x. I have very good sight for seeing the smallest of things...

Re: Octavia Performance vs Size

I believe the poster here Oldminer has his business in the Philadelphia area, if I remember correctly. He is a very highly
thought of Appraiser, you could maybe hire him to have a look at some asschers for you an advise you if you want to be
very sure of getting a good one.

Re: Octavia Performance vs Size

Love that 1.20 Octavia. Have to agree with Diamondseeker though better to get a larger stone for a woman. I would like the 1.20 Octavia but then I am an addicted to diamonds person. I used to think the Octavia looked better for men, with the high crown and angles but I have had a change of heart and...

Re: Value of European cut diamonds?

Old old thread, but is this still the way, given the popularity on Pricescope anyway and in Hollywood, that old cut diamonds
are valued, by judging them as to how much they would be as a roundcut?

Re: Old cut craze...

I remember back in 2002/2003 or before on the other board, a dealer showing us a photo of an old cut diamond, it was an old OEC look as it was round but I think it was called an old mine cut although it did not look like them to me, more like that faceting but round, maybe an early OEC. I remember n...

Re: Lets outsmart GIA clarity grades

Unfortunately Garry there is a whole industry gaming this issue already for years. You're showing a VS2 example which is pretty rare when comparing to the "clean" material offered as SI's. I totally agree that "gaming" the GIA clarity grading system is a very smart way to buy. I...

Re: Lets outsmart GIA clarity grades

Oh yes, so the crystals at 5 0'clock are only seen at plus 10x and therefore are not the grade setter which I thought was a cloud? Re: Lets outsmart GIA clarity grades

Grade setting cloud is at 5 o' clock. The rest of diamond is flawless at 10x but not under higher magnification. So the clouds affecting the clarity on the left side are flawless at the 10x standard. Basically clouds can affect the look of a GIA graded flawless.

Re: Giant cloud or dirty diamond? - VS2 clarity

I’m still curious to see if any consumers know the nickname jewelers might use for a diamond; if they notice its light-transmission is hindered by something microscopic. It’s a more general nickname, like calling a tinted diamond “warm.” Would be interested to know this term? (I seem to have opened...

Re: Leon Mege's website blasts the HCA

The inverted proportions means that a lower pavilion angle works with a higher crown as does a lower crown angle work with a higher pavilion angle. Anyway could say here too that a 40.6 pavilion angle is a paper's width from a 40.9 pavilion. The taller diamond which Leon mentions is just that the in...
