Re: 60/60 vs Near Tolk vs AGS Ideal cut: performance and pri

Very interesting about the table reflections. I would like to ask about a small diamond 60/60 type I own. I have not looked at it in a while and know the pattern of stars is not right/symmetrical but I have noticed the dark ring as shown except I only see half of it not the whole circle. Why is that...

Re: Beautiful diamonds, but a lot of feathers on the report!

Wink

I will look for it but believe it was a post from Dave Atlas which said they were not good to have - twinning wisps.

Re: Beautiful diamonds, but a lot of feathers on the report!

A lot of what you see is twinning and not feathers. Twinning is not a preferable inclusion though.

Re: Difficulty Balancing Trade-offs

The extra money is worth it to someone who values more rare if it is just looks you value go with the lower price. I like colourless and always think if I didn't value rarity I would not get a diamond but a beautiful sparkly stone for less, blue topaz has a high reflective index.

Re: Difficulty Balancing Trade-offs

I once had a 47 point diamond before I got diamonds with reports. The jeweller sold it to me as a G. When I went to another high end jeweller to trade it in on a 67 point F color GIA whilst speaking about my diamond and the price he would give me he said my 47 point stone was no way a G, it may be a...

Re: Need advice choosing between 2 Octavias

I take it you know that a well cut 1 carat round is 6.5 mm, get Good old Gold to take a comparison picture of the 1.23 ct Octavia next to the O.99ct to see the difference in the facet size. We know the stones will be cut the best so the color may surprise you. I like no lower than G also but would b...

Re: Difficulty Balancing Trade-offs

There is a reason the price difference can be substantial, it is because it is worth less. I like diamonds from D to G and find that H bothers me and I can easily see it from the side of a diamond in the mount when wearing it. As the saying goes if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Most...

Why don't we see more pink diamonds?

I have been thinking about buying pink diamond lately in a 30 to 40 point fancy pink or purplish pink, its either that or a small 14-18 point great pink but would want the larger if it looks pink. Why do you think people don't buy more of the rare pinks or does the size of a white diamond trump the ...

Re: Need advice choosing between 2 Octavias

I would vote G but would go lower for size. I love high colors but in Octavia and cuts like these the size shows off the facets most, is there another lower color bigger size in your budget.

Re: Lady Gaga's Big 'Ole Heart Ering... Thoughts??

Does anyone else remember a thread in RT a few months ago where the person with over 100K budget was looking for a heart shaped stone? What if that was her FF? If she likes it, that's all that matters. IMHO heart stones are slightly juvenile. It's supposed to be 8 carats so that would be a lot more...

I am sorry diamond hawk, I read what you wrote and took it the wrong way. There is also the point you made about the internet expanding our knowledge I just never thought of it that way. Rock diamond I like how you explain an SI1 diamond as perhaps containing 2 vs2 size inclusions, I just thought th...

Re: For the experts (play nice)- Feathers and cavities-CLARI

In my experience, none of this is "obvious" to consumers. Agreed - offered in the spirit of those participating in the conversation. I would not use the word "clear" in this context. IMO it clouds the issue ( my turn for a pun) Understood  This was in response to the same ...

Re: For the experts (play nice)- Feathers and cavities-CLARI

Yes natural characteristics of the diamond have nothing to do with the word clear. The old colour gradings where they used the word 'water' would sound more like clear and clarity, the lack of natural characteristics make it clearer but durability is strength not see through.

Re: For the experts (play nice)- Feathers and cavities-CLARI

We don't have mall's in the UK but they are called shopping centres but the jewellers I was speaking off were family owned since 1940s and one has its store in a city main street and the other has a double store on a road off the city main street. They don't mention any of the C's on the certificate...

Re: For the experts (play nice)- Feathers and cavities-CLARI

Re: For the experts (play nice)- Feathers and cavities-CLARI

I have often wondered about how clarity is portrayed on the internet. Labs say durability is relevant in I1 i2 categories, with I sometimes called Included and sometimes called Imperfect. Clarity comes from the word clear but this has nothing to do with durability. I wonder if it is just the interne...

Re: For the experts (play nice)- Feathers and cavities-CLARI

Notice in the appraiser newsroom article it makes mention of a crystal with a large feather being plotted as a large crystal, so in connection to what Neil was writing about pinpoint crystal, is it not the feather which defines the crystal size on the plot drawing maybe?

Re: Whiteflash ACA or Expert Selection – Need To Choose!

OK, let me first say that it's a gorgeous stone. Very bright and sparkly. I'm sure you would love it. How it compares to the other one I don't know, but it compared nicely to the bigger stones I was also considering and was a smidgen whiter. I thought it had very lovely presence and really nice col...
