Re: What to keep in mind for an insurance appraisal

I don't know, but if you can get your diamonds at bargain prices by spending a lot of time and by chance of luck and you lose them, you could probably do it again. It is probably the skills you have for finding them rather than the luck or chance. Maybe that price is your correct price for appraisin...

Re: The rough for my Octavia (pics)...

Thanks for the pics, Yoram, Jonathan, and DF. I think it is fascinating and awesome to see in-pocess pics as the facets are being polished. Question for anyone with expertise: Could the feather have been a surprise because those windows (polished onto the rough early, as shown in the pic bel...

Re: The rough for my Octavia (pics)...

Re the feather, I was thinking it meant to be careful polishing around it so that it doesn't tear down any further, as they were speaking before about not being able to see the depth of the feather as it grooves into the diamond? Like the feather itself cutting new territory? I am thinking the feath...

Re: Need help! The setting CAD doesn't seem to look that gr

Is the Nathan Allan ring cast or is it hand forged? I think it takes a lot of patience to do custom with all the revisions and trying
things and removing things. Also there is some rule that most jewellers will not make an exact replica due to copyright.

Re: CAVITY IN SI1 STONE...SHUD I GET IT ?

The Cavity is listed 3rd, so it third in importance. The Crystal being the most noticeable. I think you would need to see it to decide. I have read that Cavities can get gunk in them and need cleaned out, but then the diamond needs frequent cleaning anyway. Ask the vendor/jeweler what they think abo...

Re: Stamped Orange Blossom but not Traub?

18k means it is not from UK. We use 18c for gold, we write carat for gold not karat. Unless it was imported in, but the crown does not look like the crown used in british hallmarks. The other one on ebay has 14k and we don't have 14 carat in the UK, we only have 9c, 18c and 22c. I wonder if the crow...

Re: One in Six Women Disappointed with their Engagement Ring

Notice it is Daily Mail in the UK, over here most couples pick out the ring together. I would think probably because styles change and people here don't usually upgrade or because if young has less money. I notice after a lot of years, lots just don't wear their engagement rings anymore, maybe they ...

Re: Custom setting vendor needed for 1925 Tiffany Asscher ER

Beautiful ring. Really love how the metal goes in and out on the side view, love the roll over prongs and most of all love
how the asscher really fits the head, not like most with a lot of metal or square look around the asscher. This is one of
the best rings (in my opinion) I have seen here.

Maybe something like these long baguettes bezel set with or without milgrain. I think I remember someone writing
that the long baguettes are difficult to source though.

Re: What do you think of this setting for my Octavia Asscher

I have never thought of Octavia as anything other than a solitaire. I think the tall crown is such a feature that it would drown out any side stones. With the deep pavillion and mirror facets there is enough to look at on the one stone in my mind. It is a beautiful ring though, maybe if I saw it I w...

Re: Why the Low Price?

I notice there are lots of facets (more chevrons I believe is the term) on the pavillion, so it is not showing a conventional princess cut shape, don't know if this would be a reason for reduction in price? A princess cut usually has large chevron facets in a cross on the pavillion, on this stone th...

Re: When is the Vintage Craze going to finish?

The section with new jewellery seems to be more of the same but the ring shanks seem a bit wider I think and possibly the
halos have larger stones too. Also new is baguette diamonds and treated fancy color diamonds and bands of three in one ring.

Re: When is the Vintage Craze going to finish?

I was meaning after the sales finish, or that is how it works over in the UK. Their sales have lots of those types of settings, so something else wi...

When is the Vintage Craze going to finish?

I am noticing in the UK that the chain stores having their sales are selling off their halo, micropave engagement rings, e.g. £4500 for £2750. What style do you think will replace this? Are you seeing the same in the USA. I am wondering if it will be a metal modern style or something in between. Int...

Re: Blue Nile vs Whiteflash (Don't yell at me)

Many ideal cut diamonds can show perfect arrows but very few show perfect hearts, the hearts pattern is seen from the pavillion. Ideal cuts are ideal by proportion with excellent/ideal symmetry in a 2 dimensional form, but ACA diamonds are not only ideal symmetry of facets, meet points, pavillion to...

I think some fancy shapes are thick at the ends, but probably not very thick, maybe slightly thick to thick, right enough.
