Re: WF A Cut Above appraised as very good cut. Does it matte

It is a big world, I remember asking a high class jeweller in the UK about ten years ago about diamonds and said after reading the internet that I wanted a GIA certificate and he looked puzzled at me and said but that stands for america, in the UK we use the HRD lab and find it grades correctly. The...

So a 1 carat diamond is 6mm

H Samuel a chain store in the UK owned by Signet group have now got an ideal cut hearts and arrows diamond called Celebration Grand cut in Tolkowsky style. They are saying this makes a 1 carat have a larger diameter of 6.4mm compared to the 1 carat standard of 6mm. I thought when I learned disamonds...

Re: Money already spent

I know the pricescope graph chart shows the price of diamonds going down but then are diamonds being sold each month of the same quality or do wholesalers hold on to the higher qualities until prices start to rise again. I also notice the chart is an average price of all diamond grades so does that ...

Money already spent

For those who bought their diamond in recent years or many years ago, what do you think - would you have to spend more or less to buy the same diamond now? Just your immediate opinion now unless you know about these things and can elaborate quickly.

Re: Solitaire or three stone for this diamond?

I am trying to keep it a surprise for her so shopping for preferences is out of the question. Thank you everyone for your feedback. Side rounds may be problematic because they'll be conventional cut (8 hearts & arrows) vs my main (10 hearts & arrows). So it seems pear side stones will be my...

Re: Perfect Circle Jewelry Insurance Frustration

Pyramid- I own a few rings- this one was not a secondary market ring. I was married before, and engaged as well prior- all Tiffany rings. I see, was just wondering about why Tiffany would not work with your insurer. I wish you all the best with your health and with getting your claim processed asap.

Re: Perfect Circle Jewelry Insurance Frustration

As always, your experience in this field is huge and spot on. I was trying to guess why Tiffany might not want to work with JM, but I know I would do what ever it took to keep that job that they appear to be letting walk out the door. I suspect a few days for things to settle down might have differ...

Re: Setting Trends for Old Diamonds

You do know the feather on the crown is the same one as on the pavilion, the two drawings join up. The pavilion chart on the report folds back under the crown chart like its upon a hinge, so the right side pavilion is underneath the left side crown.

Re: Setting Trends for Old Diamonds

Notice the feather breaks on both the crown, girdle and pavilion, may need to check with an independent appraiser that this is not on the extremely thin part of the girdle. I know it is VS1 but as it is an old stone I would check if it has been damaged further in this area.

Re: Help help Advice needed on diamond inclusions 3.10 carat

Thanks Jamiegems and Denversppraiser. I thought I read that Garry Holloway said in that thread about GIA that a feather open to the surface would be plotted in green ink.

Re: Help help Advice needed on diamond inclusions 3.10 carat

GIA defines twinning wisps as a “cloudy area produced by crystal distortion, usually associated with twinning planes.” The cert on this stone says it is Si2 that is pretty included and you would see those wisps. The needle is no problem but a feather can be trouble if 1.) it breaks the surface of t...

Re: In the market for a vinatage cushion cut ~$30k

Pyramid, actually, my first H&A diamond from GOG was bought in 2006 and diamond prices had a huge increase in 2011. I decided I wanted something else. Jonathan told me I would do better selling it than trading it in. So I consigned it with him and made a profit of $6,000 (after the fees), which...

Re: In the market for a vinatage cushion cut ~$30k

I want the pink diamonds to come down in price, after staring at Kenny's photos yesterday, I decided I don't want to put money towards a 30-40 point fancy pink and the color of Kenny's in that size will never be bought in this lifetime. At least the want has gone now so that's a good thing. Love the...

Re: In the market for a vinatage cushion cut ~$30k

Thing is with upgrade policies, whilst you get 95% of your money back and another choice of stone to buy, you do lose value. Say a diamond is bought in 2015 for $25000, diamond prices increase so in 2023 the diamond is worth $32000 - you want a diamond for $38,000 you like, you get back slightly und...

Re: Leon Mege Diamond Ambassador???

Yes, that was what I meant as VRBeauty said re new old cuts but a hearts & arrows would be okay. Good old Gold, Whiteflash or Wink would have great stones. Can't see Leon having horrid stones in his rings though, so it would just depend who has price and quality and size you want.

Re: 60/60 vs Near Tolk vs AGS Ideal cut: performance and pri

Very interesting about the table reflections. I would like to ask about a small diamond 60/60 type I own. I have not looked at it in a while and know the pattern of stars is not right/symmetrical but I have noticed the dark ring as shown except I only see half of it not the whole circle. Why is that...

A lot of what you see is twinning and not feathers. Twinning is not a preferable inclusion though.

Re: Difficulty Balancing Trade-offs

The extra money is worth it to someone who values more rare if it is just looks you value go with the lower price. I like colourless and always think if I didn't value rarity I would not get a diamond but a beautiful sparkly stone for less, blue topaz has a high reflective index.

Re: Difficulty Balancing Trade-offs

I once had a 47 point diamond before I got diamonds with reports. The jeweller sold it to me as a G. When I went to another high end jeweller to trade it in on a 67 point F color GIA whilst speaking about my diamond and the price he would give me he said my 47 point stone was no way a G, it may be a...
