Re: consignment <sigh>

Not on the scale of diamond you have but here is my old story. I had a ring bought from a high street chain and asked a high street family jeweller in Aberdeen, Scotland (one of two great ones) if I could trade in the ring. This was about 2005. The ring cost £1800 in an 18ct setting the new ring was...

Re: 24 hours left - out of pictures, which Round is best????

The second stone probably does face up better, with better light return than No 1 as a deep stone would be darker. The low crown though would not look like a high quality diamond to me. I would not choose a diamond because of fluorescence although some here do like it, if I was getting one of those ...

Re: 24 hours left - out of pictures, which Round is best????

Third one is the best. First is quite deep. Second is worst with low crown percent and large table at 59%.

Re: Current Diamond fads?

Even within styles there are fads, in the UK for a while, there were bezel set solitaires and solitaires with bars set on the shoulder, the trellis solitaire like Tiffany, the wide band solitaire, the very narrow band solitaire, the knife edge solitaire, the old cut solitaire with pave diamond shoul...

Re: The rough for my Octavia (pics)...

Think what you are saying Karl is the same as Serg now I read it again, think I am confusing optical symmetry as something I can buy and see in a diamond and thinking that 3d symmetry is the same but is it not that all diamonds are 3 dimensional and the symmetry is how the material is being worked w...

Re: The rough for my Octavia (pics)...

Karl This is the quote from this thread where DiaGem mentioned the words 3D symmetry precision, I will add below the links from the other thread I was trying to relate it too, but this is maybe different use of the words 3D symmetry. Yoram With these adjustments will the stone still receive AGS Idea...

Re: I love this band, but does it work?

Although I don't like square stones with round I feel this one does work and voted yes due to the square edge on your engagement ring setting where side diamonds are. I also love the space between the two rings.

Re: The Ring That Stole My Heart

We know that Tiffany don't sell colors below I in engagement rings, so does Cartier not have this rule. Is it different in gigantic rocks like this? Does Tiffany sell lower colors in gigantic stones too? I suppose a 5 carat Tiffany D would be out of the realm for most people or maybe even impossible...

Re: The rough for my Octavia (pics)...

There was thread in the last week talking about hearts and arrows round diamonds, where someone was wondering how they have evolved over time and did the random look become something that was desired at some point. During that discussion I wrote about hearts and arrows having optical symmetry and I ...

Re: Pricing of colored diamonds and N- Z tinted diamonds

Good question, I think I may have seen it mentioned that it doesn't count as much. Someone in the trade will have to answer you as this is not normally discussed, as I said I think in my memory I may have read that once. I always find it strange how a very low color diamond not fancy can look as yel...

Re: Buying a $25k+ diamond, please CONFIRM my sanity!

Sometimes I work it out in my mind too, I mean we all know that smaller and more perfect costs more than larger less perfect. I also think that cut is king, but you have that with both as hearts & arrows are aesthetic although GOG did a video comparing h&a with non h&a, but you have near...

Re: Buying a $25k+ diamond, please CONFIRM my sanity!

In my opinion from the assets I believe no 2 is the better cut diamond, but that is as far as ideal look goes, they are both great diamonds with high cut specifications, I would pick no 1 though because it is over 2 carat and in the real world in say 3 years time, I would rather have the 2 carat dia...

Re: Platinum metal thinning?! HELP!!

I noticed that the band of your ring is made from hollowed out metal, maybe the setting is even thinner being a smaller diameter. Some jewellers have laser welders now and can repair platinum like that without heat, I believe they are expensive for a jeweller to buy, so you would probably need to tr...

Re: What to keep in mind for an insurance appraisal

I don't know, but if you can get your diamonds at bargain prices by spending a lot of time and by chance of luck and you lose them, you could probably do it again. It is probably the skills you have for finding them rather than the luck or chance. Maybe that price is your correct price for appraisin...

Thanks for the pics, Yoram, Jonathan, and DF. I think it is fascinating and awesome to see in-pocess pics as the facets are being polished. Re: The rough for my Octavia (pics)...

Re the feather, I was thinking it meant to be careful polishing around it so that it doesn't tear down any further, as they were speaking before about not being able to see the depth of the feather as it grooves into the diamond? Like the feather itself cutting new territory? I am thinking the feath...

Re: Need help! The setting CAD doesn't seem to look that gr

Is the Nathan Allan ring cast or is it hand forged? I think it takes a lot of patience to do custom with all the revisions and trying
things and removing things. Also there is some rule that most jewellers will not make an exact replica due to copyright.

Re: CAVITY IN SI1 STONE...SHUD I GET IT ?

The Cavity is listed 3rd, so it third in importance. The Crystal being the most noticeable. I think you would need to see it to decide. I have read that Cavities can get gunk in them and need cleaned out, but then the diamond needs frequent cleaning anyway. Ask the vendor/jeweler what they think abo...
