Re: Feeling Down About Past Jewelry Purchases re. Enhancemen

Yes I know. I have a wide band which was my grandmother's with large hallmarked stamps and some of the Jewellery on eBay from the early 1900s has this too. On Jewellery nowadays the stamps are tiny and not so clear, sometimes bits are so shallow you can,t read with a loupe, this is on mid price Jewe...

Re: Feeling Down About Past Jewelry Purchases re. Enhancemen

I know what you mean about color stones. I have a little story about metals too though. I am in the UK so over here gold is hallmarked. I went to Florida when I was 18 and we went to an antique fair being held in a large shopping area. I bought a charm bracelet with 5 charms which I was told was 10...

Re: Mom said this was from a chunk of alexandrite from a fri

Thank you for coming back to tell us seababyisu. I was hoping all the remarks didn't put you off. Great that you have two alexandrites and at least you know now about the 16 carat, it must still have a some value too being sapphire.

Re: Mom said this was from a chunk of alexandrite from a fri

It will be good when you hear what the gemologist tells you tomorrow but only the lab report is worth anything. I remember reading about a man who found an alexandrite in a part of his house he was demolishing inside the wall. Can't remember if it was on this board. I remember him getting all the sa...

Re: Confused about large knot on VS1 stone - help!

Welcome to Pricescope. The knot is listed on the GIA certificate third so this means GIA thought is was of less consequence than the crystal so given its large surface I would think it is shallow? Hopefully one of the professionals will be able to comment here too.

Would be good of course if it were real but seems the size alone means it can't be.

Re: UK Vendors?

GIA XXX covers a wide area of cut parameters which Pricescopers narrow down to what was liked on this board before GIA did their cut study and started grading cut. AGS which WF uses have had cut grades for years. If you are comparing to A Cut Above diamonds at WF those are all cut for hearts and ar...

Colored Stones Tiffany, Graff, Cartier etc

When sapphire is sold at name brands such as Tiffany, Graff, Cartier etc are they always unheated or do they sell heated sapphire like everyone else? Just wondering but wouldn't buy from those anyway as too expensive for me.

Re: UK Vendors?

Hi - I went to Smith & Green when I went to Hatton Garden two weeks ago! They seemed great and were so helpful. However the price still comes in so much higher than buying from James Allen or GOG. They quoted me £5400 all in for an F .90 VVS and platinum setting (stone not yet sourced). If I bu...

Re: 3,76ct Sapphire, re-cut, keep as is or sell?

You know this is a real pity. This forum could really do with REAL professional opinions as so many times people are given amateur replies which are just wrong. I would rather go to a doctor than a neighbour and the same with anything that costs a lot of money. I think it would be good if people had...

Re: Does anyone know what VVS means?

I have also heard of posie rings. Some UK jewellers now sell what they call partnership rings like wedding bands. Also consider friendship rings which were sometimes buckle fashioned ring bands. Wonder if the already mentioned commitment rings would just take the place of the wedding ring instead of...

How about a parent ring which the child now adult buys to commemorate their parent. Never heard of promise rings in the UK. Heard of gimmel ring, dearest ring, regards ring. With all the craftsmanship around now on the internet could have more design your own ring programmes which take into account ...

Re: Does anyone know what VVS means?

As sight holders are now allowed to leave 75% of sight on table will that mean they will change what they bought to different color and clarity or size of rough diamonds or just less of each type? I know Garry said D to F, IF to VVS goods will be less popular so will they perhaps buy grades further ...

Re: Can't make a choice! F or k

Face up can't tell color from shadow as well as sparkle. Same as walking into a pitch black room and telling me the walls are blue and not red. Different thing like apples and oranges, body color is graded upside down that is what GIA and all labs do.

I think you should hit the Report Concern button here and ask the moderator to move your question to Rockytalky or another forum they see fit. There you would get more replies from professionals as this forum is very very quiet.

I see a grey tint in the I in DS photos but photos although give an idea need to be balanced in the way Kenny showed us. . For me I must have G because I see too much tint in H. Re: Show us your Mrs. Box with your rings!

Are they no longer antique velvet as they are being custom colored? Seemed they are not promoting that aspect about the new velvet they have scoured the world for whereas before it said French velvet?
