Re: Cloth Diapers?

Meg - thanks for the input. That is exactly the route we were going to take GMD prefolds with Thirsties duo wraps, and the Bumgenius pockets. It's good to know that they are roomy enough to stuff with prefolds. Everything I read says to get a variety of brands, but I feel like if I get a quality br...

Brian Gavin Halo Bezel Pendant

For Christmas my husband reset my old pendant diamond in the Brian Gavin halo bezel pendant. It's 0.60ctw in the halo. The diamond is 0.52 K SI2. Here's the old thread when I first got the diamond. You can see how much presence the halo gives it. I am including a picture next to my 2.20 OEC for size...

Re: Biggest diamond possible? Eye clean and low colour

How about this? You'd need to bump up your budget by $200. ETA: This actually scores a 0.7 on the HCA!

I do prefer J, but the M is lovely too. At 50% more expensive, is the J worth it? Up to you!

Re: Help selecting best stone from WF/BGD - tight budget 0.3

I like the combo EB recommended. I think a 0.35-0.40 J would be lovely. I wouldn't let the size-conscious PSers steer you away from what you've come up with -- 0.40 is a great size. I think people forget that 2 carat diamonds are not the norm in much of the world. Best of luck . . . let us know what...

Re: What do you think about this diamond? 1.5 K si1

Maybe this one? It's one grade lower in clarity, bigger in size, and scores a 1.9 on the HCA. http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.58-carat-k-color-vs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-822712 ETA: Actually, this stone won't look any bigger than the one you originally ordered because it's th...

Re: What do you think about this diamond? 1.5 K si1

So you bought a 1.51 K VS1, but it's unavailable, so they're trying to send you a 1.50 K SI1 with a worse cut for the same price? This sounds like a bad deal to me! If they were giving you the VS1 for the price of the SI1, that'd be one thing, but it sounds like they are trying to get you to accept ...

Re: The Colonoscopy Thread: a PSA

I just had a colonoscopy a couple of weeks ago and found this thread helpful; thank you! My mother had stage 2 colon cancer which was cured surgically this summer (she had waited 6 years between colonoscopies despite a family history and previous polyps). So then they recommended that my siblings an...

PS will do that to you! I had my 3 stone ring planned for years and now I can't imagine having gone that direction. ;)
Re: 10th Anniversary Ring, 2.2ct O VS2 OEC in 18k YG belcher

Thank you for the compliments! I will try to get more pics -- photography has never been my forte, but this ring is so photogenic that it almost takes the pictures itself. I didn't mean to put "set" in the title; I meant to say setting. The thin band I'm wearing with it is a little band I ...
10th Anniversary Ring, 2.2ct O VS2 OEC in 18k YG belcher set

With great excitement I'm popping back in to share my 10th anniversary ring. The back story is that my engagement ring has my grandmother's diamond in it, which has sentimental value and was great for us when we got engaged 10+ years ago and didn't have extra money lying around to buy a big diamond,...
Re: Cloth Diapers?

Tammy, I'm currently using Alvas and I've used all the major brands, so I wanted to tell you what I know. What I like: The price! Obviously. They're roomy. You won't outgrow them like you might FuzziBunz or Rumparooz. The quality on the PUL and elastic is just as good as everything else I've tried. ...

Re: 3 Kids - Sedan or SUV?

I just got a 2009 Mazda 5 and I love, love, love it. It's pretty zippy for a small 6-seater mini-van (it's more like a bigger hatchback but it has sliding doors) and the mileage isn't bad. I was driving a Matrix very similar to your Corolla before, and I just love getting the girls in and out of the...

Re: Cloth Diapers?

Detergent - I just use Tide (ultra powder HE). I used Rockin' Green and I used to have stains that took several cycles to come out, needed sunning, etc. If I got poop on my own clothes I'd use a fair amount of normal detergent, so I don't see why we treat diapers differently. If you have detergent b...

Oh yes, it is very hard. But once you get through the early days, you just lift your shirt for a few minutes and feeding is much, much easier! I think an LC will help you feel a lot more confident. Re: Cloth Diapers?

I had 30 newborn diapers and I felt it was about right -- I could have gotten by with maybe 26 or 28 (I prefer to wash every other morning and the diapers aren't ready until the afternoon - I found each load was about 22 or 23 diapers). I would just hesitate to buy a whole big $600 stash without kno...

Re: Carseats for a small car (infant)

Just wanted to mention that you don't need a base to use a bucket seat, so if it will rarely go in the other car(s), you can just use the seatbelt. If one of you is dropping off at daycare and the other is picking up, then I'd have a base in both cars, but if one car will primarily be the baby-trans...

Have you read A Path Through Suffering by Elisabeth Elliot? I read it in high school and some of your words about your loss reminded me of it.

Re: Postpartum Care Thread

I got a "lounging set" at Target (I just made up that name for it), and the waistband was so high that they would have been fine for a c/s. After my c/s with my first, I wore maternity yoga pants or non-maternity drawstring pants and those were fine too. I can't believe how much of this I'...

I wish this thread had been around three months ago when I had my second. My first delivery was a c-section and my second was a VBAC, so I didn't know what to expect! It's funny to look back on this post and see a lot of my "mom friends" talking about it when we weren't "experienced" parents. :) My general approach with my children is to do what I need to make them feel secure in a reactive, not a proactive, way. DD#2 is 3 months old tomorrow ...

Pupp, yes, I had some PUL delamination issues with my FB, but only after a year plus of heavy use, and they always offered to replace them, even out of warranty. Re: Cloth Diapers?

LC, well I have girls so I put the suit over the diaper, but I suppose a swim diaper could be used as swim trunks. FWIW, I just use a pocket diaper without the insert as a swim diaper (since all a swim diaper is is a way to contain poop). I've just heard you should dedicate one diaper to that purpos...
