Re: Cloth Diapers?

Tammy, I'm currently using Alvas and I've used all the major brands, so I wanted to tell you what I know. What I like: The price! Obviously. They're roomy. You won't outgrow them like you might FuzziBunz or Rumparooz. The quality on the PUL and elastic is just as good as everything else I've tried. ...

Re: 3 Kids - Sedan or SUV?

I just got a 2009 Mazda 5 and I love, love, love it. It's pretty zippy for a small 6-seater mini-van (it's more like a bigger hatchback but it has sliding doors) and the mileage isn't bad. I was driving a Matrix very similar to your Corolla before, and I just love getting the girls in and out of the...

Re: Cloth Diapers?

Detergent - I just use Tide (ultra powder HE). I used Rockin' Green and I used to have stains that took several cycles to come out, needed sunning, etc. If I got poop on my own clothes I'd use a fair amount of normal detergent, so I don't see why we treat diapers differently. If you have detergent b...

Re: Breastfeeding help!

Oh yes, it is very hard. But once you get through the early days, you just lift your shirt for a few minutes and feeding is much, much easier! I think an LC will help you feel a lot more confident. I've never had latch issues so I'm not sure what to suggest there, but I'm sure your LC will be able t...

Re: Cloth Diapers?

I had 30 newborn diapers and I felt it was about right -- I could have gotten by with maybe 26 or 28 (I prefer to wash every other morning and the diapers aren't ready until the afternoon - I found each load was about 22 or 23 diapers). I would just hesitate to buy a whole big $600 stash without kno...

Re: Cloth Diapers?

Somebody lowballed me on a fitted that's new with tags, and I was like, well, I've had it for months and it's not worth anything to me, and a bird in the hand blah blah blah, but then I looked at her posts, and she's trying to sell used fitteds for more than she offered me for my new one. So I turne...

Re: Cloth Diapers?

Thanks for the tip Indecisive! When are you due? I got some really great deals on Black Friday/Cyber Monday last year. But that's 5 months away so you're probably due before then . . . LC, I totally agree about the Thirsties aplix. I have a few in aplix but I just ordered 6 in snaps. I have decided ...

Re: Cloth Diapers?

Alright ladies, I've gone off the deep end. I no longer know how many diapers I have! I gave my doula 20 of them (Lil Joeys, FuzziBunz XS, BumGenius NB, and Swaddlebees Simplex NB) as a thank you because she wouldn't accept payment, and she's buying 10 more of my simplex and Blueberry Mini One-Sizes...

Re: Carseats for a small car (infant)

Just wanted to mention that you don't need a base to use a bucket seat, so if it will rarely go in the other car(s), you can just use the seatbelt. If one of you is dropping off at daycare and the other is picking up, then I'd have a base in both cars, but if one car will primarily be the baby-trans...

Re: Early pregnancy loss

Fisher, that is a beautiful memorial to Miracle.

Have you read A Path Through Suffering by Elisabeth Elliot? I read it in high school and some of your words about your loss reminded me of it.

Re: Postpartum Care Thread

I got a "lounging set" at Target (I just made up that name for it), and the waistband was so high that they would have been fine for a c/s. After my c/s with my first, I wore maternity yoga pants or non-maternity drawstring pants and those were fine too. I can't believe how much of this I'...

Re: Postpartum Care Thread

I wish this thread had been around three months ago when I had my second. My first delivery was a c-section and my second was a VBAC, so I didn't know what to expect! Both deliveries definitely had their own recovery issues and tricks. C-Section, ditto what has been said: *Walk around as soon as pos...

Re: What do you think of Attachment Parenting?

It's funny to look back on this post and see a lot of my "mom friends" talking about it when we weren't "experienced" parents. :) My general approach with my children is to do what I need to make them feel secure in a reactive, not a proactive, way. DD#2 is 3 months old tomorrow ...

Re: Cloth Diapers?

Megumic, I like BB and SB, but I've never tried their covers. I've tried their pockets and AIOs. They're definitely one of my favorite brands. Re: Cloth Diapers?

Pupp, yes, I had some PUL delamination issues with my FB, but only after a year plus of heavy use, and they always offered to replace them, even out of warranty. I guess we can't expect the diapers to last forever. So Claire is potty training and wearing underwear all day. I'm just winging it though...

Re: Cloth Diapers?

LC, well I have girls so I put the suit over the diaper, but I suppose a swim diaper could be used as swim trunks. FWIW, I just use a pocket diaper without the insert as a swim diaper (since all a swim diaper is is a way to contain poop). I've just heard you should dedicate one diaper to that purpos...

LV, DivaDiapers also has a 5% off code with "earth" and it can be used on sale and clearance items! ;) I got that from their newsletter. For Cottonbabies I just googled for a coupon code, and "bestdeal" and "diaperswappers" came up, but only the latter worked for me. I ...

Boo, sorry about the leaking problems! I found the Simplex NB on Cottonbabies for 15% off, plus I stacked the "diapeswappers" code so they came to 18% off with free shipping. I just really thought there would be killer deals today (Cottonbabies' deal wasn't even advertised anywhere) but I ...

Re: Cloth Diapers?

LC, you asked about Grandma El's. I've never had any problems with it, but I did use Lansinoh nipple cream (similar ingredients I bet) right up against my hemp/cotton nursing pads, and it wouldn't come out. The reviews where it didn't work were when it was against a "stay dry" fabric, it l...

Re: Cloth Diapers?

You know, I haven't been rinsing the EBF diapers or spraying them with BacOut or anything because I read that you don't have to. So I'm just throwing them right into the dry pail and washing every 48 hours. So I'm guessing that's why. The stains are all gone by the time I re-stuff them so I'm not to...

Re: Cloth Diapers?

Hmmm, so my trusty Tide routine does not completely eradicate EBF poop stains. But they do sun out super easily. Interesting, right? Today I tried cutting the load in half to see if I was just overfilling it, but the EBF stains were still there. But they are completely gone after a short time outsid...

Happy Heiny Mini One Size - of the three "mini one size" diapers I have, this one fits the trimmest (the others are Tiny Tush Elite - way too bulky - and Blueberry Mini Deluxe, which I haven't tried yet but which looks bulkier too). The velcro makes diaper chains in the wash (DH isn't doin...

Re: Cloth Diapers?

I have some pics to share! ;) I'm loving the cloth diapers - I honestly don't really get why people do disposables at first because the cloth is so easy with a newborn. True, I'd already gotten used to it with an older child (started at 9 months with Claire) but I remember having a lot more blowouts...
