Re: What is the ideal part-time working schedule?

I'm in a totally different line of work, but for me, 3 days a week is perfect. You get more days at home with baby than days at work, but you get enough time at work to get something done. My preference is to work 2 days consecutively, with a day off between that and the other day. I'm now working 3...

Re: PS Mommy thread with toddlers 12-36 months

LC just popping in to say that, in response to your earlier question about 2 naps and the transition to 1 - we've been going through the transition for the last 6-8 weeks or something, and at times it has been REALLY bad (a week with no naps at all was not that fun!), but we're not established on o...

Re: The Official TTC Thread!

Missy , your doctor said exactly what we all think here too - you ARE amazingly strong! We (DH and I) are still cheering you on from the sidelines and I am amazed at your ability to maintain your positivity. I think the meds sound like a great idea; a lot of those meds are actually pretty safe to t...

Re: Wanting but Waiting...

We're on holidays at the moment, me and my little family (hubby and bub), and we are realising that without us ever noticing, S really ISN'T a "baby" any more!

And now I want one even more :/

Re: How long after marriage did you have babies?

We married in May 2010. Got pregnant in May 2011. We probably would have started TTC before then (I got pregnant on my first cycle) except that we had spent all of 2010 travelling and had eloped overseas, so we wanted to wait until our home-leg reception (on May 1, 2011) was done first. I think that...

Re: PS Mommy thread with toddlers 12-36 months

LC - hahahaha! Too funny! (and messy... but so cute!) Girls, I've been so slack about posting. I think since returning to work I've been kind of shocked by how little free time I now have - I've lost touch with my irl mothers' group too, must try and plan my day off a bit better. We're doing well. ...

Re: Baby sleep training

I think that 4 hours of wake time at 8 months is pushing it. I know some babies can do it, but most of those I know really can't. S has only recently started doing 4+ hour stretches and she is 14 months. At 8 months, S was up at 7:30, morning nap at 9:30 for about 1.5 hours, afternoon nap at about 2...

Re: PS Mommy thread with toddlers 12-36 months

No it doesn't. In the context of a varied diet, cow's milk is the recommended milk source. There's a heck of a lot of marketing of toddler formulas, but if the kid is eating properly, there's no benefit. And if the kid isn't eating properly, formula is not the answer!

Re: PS Mommy thread with toddlers 12-36 months

Mayerling, don't get tied up in knots about it. The long and the short of it is that a) you need enough dairy to maintain an adequate calcium intake, and b) babies shouldn't have too much cow's milk because it will suppress their appetite for food and put them at risk of iron deficiency.

Re: PS Mommy thread with toddlers 12-36 months

Back later for a proper post, but Mayerling - about 500ml is our recommendation here. Should also be getting dairy in the diet - cheese, yoghurt, etc.

Re: Umbrella/Lightweight Stroller

We have the Peg Perego Pliko Mini and absolutely LOVE it. It is stable, extremely light (5kg), has a HUGE canopy for an umbrella stroller, and a good-sized, accessible basket. It also stands up stably when folded. Highly highly recommend, we really love this one and are using our BJCM a lot less sin...

Re: PS Mommy thread with toddlers 12-36 months

LC , doing what I'm doing at the moment is totally different from my work pre-baby. In all honesty I actually think it's better this way as I was feeling restless and ready for a new challenge before Dot came, but it's just a bit of a teething period at the moment. I know it will improve and that I...

Re: PS Mommy thread with toddlers 12-36 months

I think it's hard no matter which camp you fall into. I'm 6 weeks into work now, doing 3 days/week and flexing up to 3.5-4 in the next week or two. I was extremely work-driven and LOVED working before, but to be honest, I am miserable about working now. The work itself is enjoyable (although it hasn...

Re: Wanting but Waiting...

Stacy - personally I think it's a bit premature to worry about how you'll "fit" 3 kids in when you're only 30! From my perspective, I am now 33, my daughter is 12 months old, and I would love 3 kids, maybe even 4, but realistically 3. We are talking about TTC starting at the end of this y...

Re: Wanting but Waiting...

Meg , you're not the only one. I don't care much for being pregnant, but I am just CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK CLUCKY. S is 12 months now so it wouldn't be insane to TTC, but I've just started a PhD and I want to be a minimum of 18 months in when we have our next baby. So it looks like we will start TTC at t...

Re: PS Mommy Thread-Newborn to 12 months!

Dandi , don't listen to anyone who tells you that you can "spoil" a young baby - you cannot!!! Re shush-patting, it's not self-settling as it's with help, but it's in the cot/bassinet which is why it's a good transitional technique if you're keen for bub to learn to fall asleep in his own...

Re: PS Mommy Thread-Newborn to 12 months!

dandiandi , don't worry too much at the moment. 6-8 weeks is the peak of young babies' unsettled behaviour and it will get easier to transition himself to self-settling as he comes down from that peak. S mostly fell asleep on her own from the start but stopped doing so during the day at around 6 we...

Re: PS Mommy Thread-Newborn to 12 months!

Haha yes, LC is correct, S would take boob any old time any old how in the old days  I didn't wake her for the dream feed, I'd just unwrap her and stick her on. She fed like a champ but the DF didn't work for us; it made her wake earlier in the MOTN than she otherwise would have anyway, so I tr...

Re: Daily meals

Hmmm. We started solids at 4 months. Worked up to 2 tablespoons once/day, then added a 2nd meal and later, a third. By 6 months S was on 3 meals a day; breakfast was always substantial, and then of lunch and dinner, one was usually pretty big and the other a little less. Our routine was something li...

Re: Thoughts on purchases (ex. stroller) with baby #2 in min

Pave - you don't need the 2nd seat to use the Select as a single pram with a bassinet, only if you want to use a bassinet for the second baby whilst the 1st is in a seat. Or is that what you meant? The bassinet "frame" is actually the seat frame, and when you buy the bassinet you just buy ...
