Re: more wedding band hunting for the FI

Have you checked out E-Wedding Bands? Maybe they can make something like this in gold: http://www.e-weddingbands.com/store/product168180.html.. They'll customize most anything and are really great to work with.

I vote for baguettes and squares. I find repetition of the shapes on the engagement ring to be pleasing.

Re: Milgrain for Men?

I second E-Wedding Bands. They also do custom orders if you can't find what you're looking for on their site. Very wonderful to work with and quick, too.

Re: A Cut Beyond from ERD, thoughts?

The stone is no doubt very beautiful, but I'd personally get a bigger one (~1.25 ct.) with lower color and clarity specs (~H, SI1) for the same price.

Re: IYO...what college degree will give you...

If I had to guess, I would say accounting or a technical degree. While happiness is important, I think it's necessary to balance that with job prospects and financial stability. I have a few friends who have graduate degrees in fields that they love, but are now unable to find employment. Also, you ...

Re: 5.14ct H VS1Cushion Brilliant - please give me your thou

Judging by the one picture, I would pass. It reminds me of my diamond (albeit mine is much, much smaller) -- in certain lighting, a band of all white or all dark facets runs across the middle. I would not want that quirk in a 5+ carat diamond.

Re: 5.14ct H VS1Cushion Brilliant - please give me your thou

Phoenix, I came across this one with a beautiful cut: http://www.betteridge.com/betteridge-10.18-carat-round-brilliant-diamond-engagement-ring/p/6820/ The J is probably too tinted for you, but that pattern is gorgeous. Very even, beautiful shape, and huge! There's a 5.14 ct H VS1 as well on the sit...

Re: Describe this woman's face in words.

First word that comes to mind is taut.

I feel conflicted because if I say something negative, then I'm tearing her apart. If I say something positive, then I'm perpetuating an over-photoshopped, unrealistic, unachievable beauty ideal.

Re: What comes first?

Definitely venue as well for all of the reasons chloe mentioned.

The order (more or less) in which I planned the wedding:
venue
photographer/baker/florist/dj
dress/bridesmaids' dresses
hair/makeup
invitations/registry/wedding website
tuxes/accessories
decorations

Re: Sight Unseen Pear

Since it's from a drop-shipper (as opposed to a jeweler's in-house inventory) and you know the GIA report number, can't you ask a preferred vendor to pull the stone for you and evaluate/take pictures of it?

I would think that having a removal company do the testing would ensure that they will do a good job because they have an incentive (more mold = more business).

Re: dreaming of wedding dress and not even engaged...

There are beautiful dresses to be had at every price range. I would personally not spend more than I budgeted for a wedding dress. I wore a Casablanca 2043 for my wedding. It was under a grand (not including accoutrement), and while not the crazy, couture-style dress I had envisioned, was still a kn...
