Re: getting a 2carat. Should I be self-conscious?

post by kenny » 05 Jul 2011 13:03 I heard a wonderful saying once . . . What others think of me is none of my business. I LOVE THIS! hah and I love a 2-carat ring too even though it's not mine! one of my best friends who just got married :appl: has a 2 carat solitaire with a pave band that she love...

Re: Need advice on Final Choice (engagement ring)

i tend to agree that it might be a little much if you aren't for certain that that's what she has in mind or likes... but i think you said in a previous post that based on her hands, you thought she'd like something with a not-too-narrow band? this one seems still pretty substantial, but still vinta...

Re: Narrowed down to two. Help?!?

I'm no expert but just went through the purchase process and since you need QUICK advice - since both are sig-ideal cuts, between the two I would go with the first stone - the FVS2. I just would NOT want to pay for IF clarity and would wonder what I could get if I'd lowered that one "c" fa...

Re: the ring is in... and it's beautiful and i love it!

yayay! thank you!! :appl: asscherhalo_lover - we haven't really looked at bands yet and I was playing around with the idea of getting something very different and kind of antiquey that didn't match the engagement ring at all to maintain the look of 2 rings... but i also just LOVE a traditional plain...

Re: the ring is in... and it's beautiful and i love it!

it was actually surprisingly hard to find halos with plain shanks when we started looking for rings, which is why we ended up going custom... i just love it - keeps it simple but a little fancy at the same time! i sort of think its a halo with the heart of a solitaire, the way the diamond pops off t...

slg47 and swingirl - first thanks so much for weighing in at different points in this process! and yes, working with Joe Escobar has been a great experience - they're all so helpful and accommodating and really good people that want you to love your ring. like I said earlier, we had a pretty sucky e...

Re: the ring is in... and it's beautiful and i love it!

yay!! thanks so much again - PSers have such an amazing variety of ideas and preferences for engagement rings (I think I've ooh'd and ahh'd over them all!) but are so consistently happy for people when they find what they're looking for - it is SO NICE! lknvrb4 - the shank is just about round but a ...

you all are seriously so nice!! thank you SO MUCH for all of the kind replies! after a time-consuming and pretty upsetting experience with a local jeweler ( http://www.pricescope.com/forum/rockytalky/i-ve-read-all-about-leon-but-who-does-lovely-pave-in-sf-t160302.html ), it is just such a thrill to ...

the ring is in... and it's beautiful and i love it!

long story short, the proposal was perfect but the post-proposal search for a ring was an obstacle course! so many people on pricescope were so super helpful, eventually getting us to the right stone (JA True Hearts 1.05 E VS2 AGS000) and to the right custom jeweler (Joe Escobar) to create the plain...

Re: Requesting changes to custom rings - what's customary?

that was weird - i didn't see the second half of your post before responding - that's GOOD to know that there's a good reason (including the strength factor) to do it that way, i haven't tried it with a wedding band... wonder if i'd get used to it over time, but am having a hard time with the comfor...

Re: Requesting changes to custom rings - what's customary?

thank you for the response! the shank is structurally/visually fine, but is definitely taller than it is wide instead of being the same width throughout - it's really a comfort thing more than a looks thing, although the look isn't as delicate as a result. i agree it should've been specified before ...

Re: Requesting changes to custom rings - what's customary?

ok ok i'll bump with pictures! not that it is particularly relevant to the question, but it can't hurt, right? everyone loves pictures... oh also, there was no sketch, wax or cad as part of the process... we were working with one of their sample rings which probably had the same feature/issue, but w...

Requesting changes to custom rings - what's customary?

background is that my fiance and i just ordered/received our custom made halo engagement ring and while it is BEAUTIFUL and i love the pave on the halo and the execution generally, there are a couple things about the gallery and shank that I'm having trouble with. most problematic is that while I ex...

Re: Advice on buying an engagement ring

If you're in and around SF, I'd check out Joe Escobar in Campbell even if just to get an idea about settings, and what you like - I think they work with a colored stone source and they have this beauty on their website: http://www.escobardiamonds.com/showcase.aspx?ShowcaseID=3&id=92 so pretty! m...

Re: Please help with feedback on the brilliants

I'm pretty sensitive to color so my fiance and I actually went slightly down in size to get less color - but that's REALLY subjective - some people really like the honey color of a warm diamond, some people don't perceive color as much as others and others find H-I-J-K stones that face up really whi...

Re: Please help with feedback on the brilliants

Hi Anton - people have different opinions about what type of metal helps "whiten" a warm-colored stone, but my thought with this setting (which is beautiful!) is if you think she'd prefer a white appearance in the center stone, the F-G sidestones in the setting might make a K center stone'...

LGK - (this is sort of off the original topic, but...) your post made me laugh! I'm mixed and get the "where are you from?" question from acquaintances/strangers every once in a while (accompanied by a searching look at my facial features)... I usually say "from [hometown], California...
