As already said the colors of stones don''t seem to meet the market''s definition of good color for their respective species. Prongs holding the diamonds are way too big and obscure the view of those stones (reducing visible brilliance). It''s a strange choice of stones to combine in one piece,... |

It''s your call of course, but IMO the one with the baguettes would be better because: a) I prefer halos on larger stones, and by that I mean like 3-4 carats and above, and b) if you''d keep everything to scale as on this photo of a halo version, the diamonds would have to be incredibly small and th... |

Red, glowy, natural and 7-8 mm is a really tough task for your budget, and I''d say the options are ruby, spinel, tourmaline and bixbite - but all would probably cost quite a bit more. Anything other than these is either not really red, or doesen''t glow. But since you mention no... |

Without lab equipment and expert knowledge I''d say your best bet in determining what these might be is the price being asked for the stones. I really think you should see the stone in person, instead of deciding based on a few photos, especially because it''s for an e-ring. It all depends if you're buying or selling. If I'd be interested in buying this stone I'd use it's lessened saturation to my advantage and try to bring the price down as much as possible. If earrings are what you''re interested in making with these stones, I''d say go for it, as practically any gemstone is durable enough for earrings. Is it a great red spinel? No. Is it a nice stone? Only you can answer that, and that''s all that matters. Very nice earrings and your stones look slightly lighter than many (most) chrome diopsides I see around, which is a good thing - they tend to be overly dark. |

If the shade of the spinel has a dark tone, the difference in size might be less noticable - cause our eyes perceive darker objects as smaller than light ones. Or if the design would permit, you might bezel the smaller one and leave the larger one in prongs, to make them seem more of the same size. ... |
