Re: How did you decide what type of diamond?

I first bought a round, then a generic asscher then the Octavia asscher.
Fortunately for me all were top-cut with superb light performance.

I needed to personally experience each for a time to discover how I felt about each and develop my taste.

Re: Thoughts On "Ideal" Cut

Just a darned minute, Kenny. When did that second Octavia become a member of your household?? I remember your SO's Ocvtavia, but which additional one did you get???? A year ago I bought a 1.51 G VS2 Octavia. December 2009 my SO got the first Octavia sold, a 1.34 H VS2. He said he should ...

Re: Graff or Harry Winston?

People more 'in the know' will rate Graff over the household-name HW.
But people really in the know would not overspend at either store.

Re: Thoughts On "Ideal" Cut

Don't forget that face up size or spread only considers the on-axis, top-down view. That ignores an important diamond quality ... off-axis performance. To an amazing degree the fireworks of the Octavia continue as you tilt the diamond quite a bit off-axis. IMO anyone who thinks Octavia's 75%+ depth ...

Yoram, that's one of the most stunning FCDs I've ever seen.

Do you know what color grade GIA gave it?
From that pic I'd guess Fancy Intense Orange Pink ... but perhaps they saw some brown in it.

Ugly suspicions can be so hurtful.

I blame the media for making us all so suspicious and thinking the worst about each other. :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: Fear Fear Fear! Yeah, of course bad things CAN happen. But that's rare and it's unfair, and increasingly common, to jump to ugly conclusions. Please read this short n...

If that picture is accurate for color, that's a stunning stone.

DF, when are you getting your Octavia? You tell me.... you know as much as I do. It's been a while. One sold a few days ago. For a long time there was 5. This month a new one was born, so there was 6, but one of the others flew the coupe. The newborn is a 0.998 G VS2. Imagine ...

Re: Do you think warmer diamonds throw off more colors?

Dispersion has nothing to do with the body color of a diamond.
Dispersion is the breaking up white light into its component colors and is the result of the cut angles, the lighting environment, and the refractive index of diamond.

Re: Blue Fluorescence lovers. I have some questions

All diamonds will reflect the blue of the sky. I had a diamond GIA graded Medium Blue and another diamond GIA graded No Fluor. Side by side under a sunny blue sky both looked equally blue. Clearly I was seeing reflections of the blue sky. Of course the one with blue fluor WAS fluorescing blue, but t...

Re: The Purple Orchid Diamond!

I find it very difficult to believe the color in that pic could be anything near accurate. screen_shot_2014-08-30_at_0.png I think the below pic of the same stone is more likely to be closer to accurate. Note, both pics are actually the same pic ... every shadow, highlight, reflection is identical. ...

Re: What do you use to shoot your photos?

Like Wink said a 50mm macro lens must be so close to the diamond that it blocks the light from getting into the crown and presents a huge black monster that the diamond has no choice but to reflect back. A 105mm lets the camera be further away from the diamond. A 200mm macro gives you even more work...

Re: What do you use to shoot your photos?

Here is a demo of what a bellows does and why it is so useful, even if you have a good macro lens. (Legal fine print: my 105 lens is called macro by Nikon even though it can only reach a magnification ration of 1:2.) I took two pictures. Both are posted here full frame. That means no cropping was do...

Re: What do you use to shoot your photos?

It's a Minolta 50mm f2.8 1:1. However, from what I remember, even that lens can't achieve magnification of that kind. I believe most people crop in after taking the pic. This often works well enough if the camera had a high enough pixel count, especially since Pricescope squishes all the pics down ...

Re: Tiffany second hand valuations

Tiffany doesn't make any money when a shopper buys a used Tiffany ring. I'm sure they'd rather make money selling that customer a new Tiffany ring than help you basically take away their business. I'm not saying it's right; I just think their policy is not surprising. Tiffany is a business, not a no...

A 3-foot wasp nest found WHERE? Sleep tight!
