Re: At Home Ring Steamer - Suggestions please!

Kenny do you think the steamer works better than the soap type cleaners? I would never used soap to clean a diamond. For daily cleaning of my tension-set diamond I use Isopropyl Alcohol and a tooth brush. Then I blow away the contaminate alcohol with canned air. Repeat 2 or 3 times. For weekly clea...

Re: At Home Ring Steamer - Suggestions please!

I'm very happy with my GemOro Steamer.

ONLY use distilled water or reverse osmosis water.
Regular water has minerals that may build up and eventually clog the aperture.

Re: PSA:Surgeon General-skin cancer major public health prob

Getting society to drop the idea that a tan looks healthy or attractive is an uphill battle. I know what would work, but they can't do ... legislate that nobody with a tan can appear in films, TV or advertising. Next outlaw people wearing make up that makes their skin look darker. Next outlaw tannin...

PSA: Now we must be more careful with our keys

KeyMe is a new service that will 3D 'print' and give you a replacement key from a photograph of a key. :nono: Now criminals don't have to even touch your keys to get copies. I've never valet-parked my car and this is a new reason to not start. http://www.wired.com/2014/07/keyme-let-me-break-in/ SNIP...

Re: Do you prefer GIA or AGS ?...

I have more respect for AGS. Shockingly, GIA includes weight-retaining steep deeps in their Excellent cut grade. This makes the industry more profitable while the consumer is deceived into thinking all diamonds that GIA graded Excellent-Cut are the the best cut. :nono: AGS's top cut grade is tighter...

Re: Should I teach my nieces about dental floss?

Once again  generalizations are generally true. Exceptions to generalizations do not make the generalization untrue. Flossing is a good thing for anyone with natural teeth. It removes plaque that would build up under the gums where brushes can't reach. Over decades the plaque converts to yucki...

Re: Smart people buy generics over brand names

Toilet paper - Scott's regular. All other brands the rolls annoyingly last only a few days. I'll know more about Costco soon. I'm moving temporarily to a place with one and I'll join. Sometimes I still buy generic even when I know a brand name is 'better' because I also factor in cost/value and whe...

Science: Rich & Poor People May Have Shared Common Ancestor

ITHACA, NY—According to a study released this week by geneticists at Cornell University, substantial evidence indicates that rich people and poor people—disparate populations long thought to be entirely unrelated—may have once shared a single common ancestor. “After conducting careful DNA analysis, ...

Re: question about cutting diamonds

I can't imagine another product where goods are sold/traded only by and to a tightly-restricted group of insiders. When rough is available to the public something's wrong, either with the desirability/usability of the rough or its origin, as in conflict diamonds. There is some reason that rough was ...

FWIW, my sister was more of a care giver to my parents in their last years than I or my brother was. Re: Should I teach my nieces about dental floss?

Also please factor in VERY VERY low income.

Us diamond-buying folks get used to being able to afford all that stuff we see as necessities.
Sunblock is very very expensive, especially compared to floss.
