Re: Leverbacks vs studs

Oh, I want some leverbacks so badly! I like some Beverley K settings and haven't decided whether to go with diamonds or colored stones. But I most love RandG's with the large diamonds and the two diamonds per earring. I am not sure I would like them as much with smaller stones, though. Bright Ice ha...

Re: How do you relax?

I pretty much look at PS, ebay, etc. in the evenings. My husband likes movies that I don't really like (scary or war movies, etc) and so I just play on the computer. I do enjoy movies, though, when I get the chance. Like you, Sharon, I am generally happy alone.

In addition to CBI, WhiteFlash and Good Old Gold also sell superior hearts and arrows diamonds. http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3114556.htm http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3157607.htm http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut...

Re: Leon E-Ring

I also think Good Old Gold is the best source of modern cushions. If they don't have what you want, then they maybe can source a nice one for you. They specialize in well cut stones of any shape. I do love the AV antique cushions personally. Victor Canera sells cushions as well and makes very fine s...

Re: I've Chipped Two Cut Above Round Solitaires. Advice Plea

Wow, thank goodness you have jewelry insurance! I hope they don't drop you this time, though. I definitely think you require a more protective setting. A bezel is going to be the most protective. Next would be something like 8 prongs! By all means make your claim and replace the diamond. http://www....

Re: Is it unfair to compare a radiant diamond to a round or

I would return the setting if you are not happy with it. No reason to waste money. You can certainly find well made settings made with clean, excellent cut melee. I think it is hard to find well cut radiants. Canuk Gal has one of the nicest ones I have seen. Hers is more of a symmetrical cut that so...

That diamond does not look especially appealing to me. I would choose my own diamond and then have Steven or Victor Canera set it, personally.

Re: What's this diamond worth?

No, very good cut is not good enough. Tell him you will only consider GIA Excellent cut. That in itself is a broad category and a lot of those we would reject. But any GIA EX stone is going to be vastly better than the one he was trying to sell you. Honestly, you are far more likely to get ripped of...

Re: GIA Cert - Please advise on this diamond 65% Table

Horrible. Please do not consider anything less than GIA Excellent cut. That in itself is a broad category, and I'd only be okay with about maybe a third of those. So start with GIA Excellent and then we can help you narrow down the better ones. Some guidelines to get you started would be: Table: 54-...

Re: Are baguettes worth the $?

I greatly prefer the thinner bands on the second set. I think it would make your diamond look larger. I might also suggest, if you have not already done so, to look through the ring folder here, starting with the more recent and then going back. You might even get some other ideas. http://www.prices...

Re: Resetting a sapphire

Welcome! I would say that is possible, but not necessarily the best way to do it. You probably would do as well selling the old setting as scrap and having a whole new ring made. It may not be worth trying to reuse the old shank. (We have a good friend who is a mid-wife and she has quoted the same p...

Why? Can't you say you have changed your mind? If you committed to a ring, tell them to put a cz in it until you find a good diamond.

Re: What's this diamond worth?

Yikes, you already bought it? Did you agree to that price? A recut may be possible but you could lose half the weight. (A recut may cost around $350 plus postage sending the diamonds somewhere.) I wouldn't pay more than $2000 because after the recut it is going to be much smaller. I would tell the p...

Re: O.M.F.G.

Re: Are these Good Stones? HELP!!! DS and Gypsy!!

I like the modern cushion Rocky posted. As Gypsy said, cushions are deeper and often face up smaller than rounds, so I'd want larger than 1.5 cts in a cushion to set in an Emilya.

Re: Diamondseeker2006... your photo

I don't know if I'd put 6 prongs on a stone that size. Might be a little too much metal showing on the stone. You don't really need it for safety as 4 prongs are fine. It is more an appearance preference than anything. I have had both and do prefer 6 prongs on larger stones. I think I'd go a little ...

Re: Which setting

Wow, I am an analyzer but those settings are almost identical if not the same! I really like them! I would go with a white gold or platinum head regardless of whether the shank is yellow or white gold like the real Tiffany setting would be. http://www.tiffany.com/Engagement/Item.aspx?mcat=148203&...

Re: Are baguettes worth the $?

Ah channel set baguettes. I just looked back at your earlier thread about choosing between the two yellow gold round channel set rings. I very much prefer the set on the right because the wider set takes away from your beautiful diamond. I am going to say that I am not sure I would love channel set ...

Re: Pros/Cons of Cathedral Settings??

I think one of the reasons I overthink this is because rings often take on a different appearance after they are set with the diamond. In other words, how you thought it would look is not how it turns out. I am editing my post because I have now read a couple of your threads and understand the situ...

Re: Diamondseeker2006... your photo

Personally, and again this is personal preference, I would not pay the premium for the branded cut on a stone that size. This is not a "dig" on the size, but just the fact I don't think you'll fully appreciate the faceting pattern the stone that size. I would agree unless it is an antique...

Re: Are baguettes worth the $?

All diamonds need to be cleaned often to be at their best, so I don't see baguettes as a problem in that respect. It is easy to keep a jar of jewelry cleaner on the bathroom vanity and just drop them in every morning while getting dressed. Then a little brush to the diamonds and rinse with hot water...

do most people think AVR are nicer than regular rounds? DS pic looks great, but I've never seen one in person I will tell you that I first had an ideal cut round. Re: Diamondseeker2006... your photo

Of course it isn't rude! I don't mind at all! This stone is an August Vintage Round from Good Old Gold. It is a specialty cut made like an Old European cut diamond but with excellent/ideal light performance. I don't think AVRs are actually graded for light performance yet, but GOG does provide thei...

Re: who paid for your upgrade?

Once we were married, all our money is ours, not his and mine. Thankfully my husband has been good about my upgrades!

I would suggest to him that you'd like an upgrade for your next anniversary or combine it with birthday or other holiday gifts.
