Re: Opinions on Gorilla killed at Cinn. Zoo

Absolutely the mom was not watching her child apparently for several minutes, because he had to go over some obstacles to get to where he ended up. A 3 year old has to be watched every second in a crowded place like a zoo! Someone could have snatched him and she would have been oblivious. But, in ad...

Re: Would you be lonely without Pricescope?

I have too many people around to actually be lonely! But PS has been a part of my life for over 10 years and I have many friends here, and it is also my hobby. I enjoy helping people find diamonds and settings and I enjoy collecting on a small scale myself. Unless there is some catastrophic ev...

Re: Opinion on this Diamond?

Yes, those measurements are more safe! This is a situation where both stones could be great, or the first one could have leakage. But without the images, I'd have to choose the last one.

Re: Gurhan 24K Blue Flash Moonstone Necklace & Earrings

Oh well! It was worth a try! I am sure the lighting issue is important in showing those earrings at their best! Really gorgeous!!!! This set reminds me a lot of Elizabeth Locke who also does hammered gold (19k, I think) and it is very pricey but beautiful. (By the way, did you see my comment on anot...
Re: HELP: Trying to find a high quality micropave band

Highest quality would be Victor Canera and Steven Kirsch. That's where I would get one. They may cost more than the Tiffany band but could have slightly larger stones than the Metro which I would find desirable.

Re: Opinion on this Diamond?

If you can't get images, then I would stick to the parameters below. This stone has numbers outside of what I consider the relatively safe zone for buying blind. These are measurements to help you stay in ideal cut territory with a GIA excellent cut stone. table: 54-58 depth: 60-62.3 crown angle: 34...

Re: Would appreciate suggestions...

I really love that antique Tiffany ring, too. I'd just take it off when doing things that might cause wear on it!

And, I think you'd need five 30 pointers if you went with 5 stones bar set. I like a classic diamond band, but I think you will love the bezel band or Tiffany ring more!

Re: Would appreciate suggestions...

I am very excited about the idea of a graduated bezel band! I think you will get greater finger coverage with 5 stones if you do bezels. I don't think you'd get it with 5 stones in bar set. My vintage 5 stone band is very slightly graduated but the stones average at .20 (.25 center and it barely cov...

Re: Would appreciate suggestions...

I love that Tiffany three stone ring you posted and have that picture saved! However, I don't think a ring with milgrain is ever a 24/7 kind of ring. And as much as I adore the idea of an antique french cut band or CVB or EW band (made wider or a stack), those are not 24/7 rings, either! I think the...

Re: tiffany hallmark preowned t wire bracelet

I see nothing that looks different about it from the one you found at the bottom. Many times designer markings will change over time and older pieces from a line may not have the same markings as current ones. The safest way to buy second hand designer pieces is if there is an original sales receipt...

Re: Help choosing a diamond!

All I know is that I put in $6k, which is the number he told me, and the computer calculated:

6000 Australian Dollar equals
4315.56 US Dollar

So if he wants to change the numbers, I'll look in a different price range. All the stones I posted have a credit card price listed.

Fabulous!!! I love Gurhan pieces, and this is one of the prettiest sets I have ever seen!

Oh, and the trick to taking pictures of earrings is to go in your bathroom and then you can see the image from your phone camera in the mirror. :))

Re: Help choosing a diamond!

Okay, Whiteflash has many that are in your budget. They carry outstanding quality diamonds. I'd go with the first one, personally. You can't see the difference between VS1 and VS2 with your eyes. http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3667390.htm?source=pricescope http://ww...

Re: Help choosing a diamond!

Okay, that is $4316 in USD. I am going to look at F-G VS1-VS2. Ideal cut stones are going to face up very white. The problem you encountered is that Brilliant Earth and many other vendors just list mostly stones they do not own. There are virtual listings from diamond suppliers or cutters and the sa...

Re: Grandmother's ring - help/advice needed!

Thank you for your replies. Certainly not looking to sell it. I was hoping to use it as an engagement ring later this year, keen to keep it in the family and make use of it, seems far too beautiful to be collecting dust. I should also add I'm based in Oxford, England. It's currently much, much too ...

What's your experience with Brilliance.com? Sounds questionable. They did say I can request aset image...

Re: Does this look "not small"?

You have long fingers and your rings are a nice width. If you went with thin shanks, you'd probably have to wear two bands beneath your e-ring. Of course, that is not a problem to do ;)) , but I actually really like your current rings! Oh, and most people would never notice an increase in diamond si...

Re: How to Protect Your Diamond from Chipping

Excellent points, Wink, and thanks for the warning regarding tweezers!!! Sometimes people do have loose stones while deliberating on settings, and it is good to know they should not be held like that (table to pointed culet) when looking for a girdle inscription, for example. I also don't recall a l...

Re: Dilemma: use .05 or .06 diamonds in my halo

Oh yes, I am very familiar with CADs but usually do not see them quite this bulky. We have whole threads on how to make a Harry Winston style halo, but I understand you want larger melee. Hopefully one of the halo experts will see your thread. Here's one thread with slightly larger halo melee (looks...

Shameless bump as I really want to know the answer :) Susie, while you wait for a reply, I would encourage you to read Victor's article I linked above. Here is what he says about polishing: "Platinum by its nature is more of a "chewy" metal as opposed to gold which is more brittle. B...

Re: Confused over two diamonds could use some help

Well, it's the same stone and neither have it. They are just listing it. The picture on Union Diamond is just a sample image, so you have zero idea what that stone looks like. The info from USACerted is totally wrong. The HCA is a tool to evaluate round diamonds. It has nothing to do with hearts. My...

Re: Diamon a mess? Or crazy cut?

No, it's not a mess. It's kind of a typical, non-precision cut stone with good light return. Jon doesn't stock a lot of stones like this, but there are people who want a 2 ct stone and can't pay for the precision cut which might make this stone several thousand dollars higher. For those looking for ...

Re: Dilemma: use .05 or .06 diamonds in my halo

Those renderings have way too much metal showing. I am hoping some others who have done custom halos will see the thread. I think you'll need much smaller halo stones than 2.5mm with your size center stone.

I am hoping Gypsy will see this. She has experience with halos.

Re: Asschers! (Generic, Octavia...)

True, my stone above is an H. I'd certainly look at G and VS1 which is totally eyeclean (inclusions are very hard to see with a 10x loupe!). Finding a well cut asscher is more important than color and if you limit yourself to only D-F VVS, you could be missing out on a better cut stone. Not to menti...

Re: Advice needed

Some halos are designed to have an airline between the stone and the setting. But sometimes, a stone that is too small is set it a halo, and that is not a good thing. I do not like a gap between stone and halo in a setting like that, personally.
