Re: Colour effect on a diamond set in onyx

I do love antique onyx rings! This will be a project worth doing right and waiting for! I have some similar antique ring pictures saved. I'd love to make one someday!

Re: Retirement - how do you get there?!

That is when we bought our new house, in 2009! But after retirement, it is a little scary to me to have a big crash and uninsured accounts. Because that affects 401k and pension funds, and SS is already in trouble. I feel for our children because I don't see a bright financial future ahead unless th...

Re: Retirement - how do you get there?!

My husband plans to retire when he turns 62 in a year. I stopped working about 6 years ago when we moved. But for many years, we were conscientious savers and conservative spenders. I wasn't buying a lot of jewelry back then. We saved for retirement, kids' college, had a solid emergency fund, and ha...

Re: Help with resetting diamond into a 3 stone ring

Clarity enhanced means the stone had very poor clarity and it has had a treatment such as laser drilling to remove some of the inclusions and possibly filled. Our recommendation here normally is to never buy a clarity enhanced stone. They can have problems down the road and are worth far less than a...

Re: Is this a good Radiant Cut Diamond ??? PLEASE HELPPPPP

Okay, D color costs $$$! But look at these ASET images compared to the radiant. Seriously, there is no comparison. http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3143291.htm http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond-search/1.10-ascendancy_heart_arrows-EX-GIA--VS2-diamond-stock-13964-cert-...

Re: Is this a good Radiant Cut Diamond ??? PLEASE HELPPPPP

It would be my pleasure to look! I am going to strongly recommend a round. That shape is timeless, and shapes like radiants go in and out of style. They will never be as brilliant as a round. Most cushions will not, either. I think princess cuts are on their way out. Rounds are never out of style.

Re: Does your social circle care about jewelery?

Nope, not one single local friend cares about jewelry, and every single one still wears their original e-ring of about a carat or less! Yet they have lake houses, boats, take trips, etc. I don't think most people have heard the word upgrade. I have never shown my rings or other jewelry to friends, a...

Re: Question on heart shaped eternity band

To be honest, those don't really compare to the Harry Winston version. They look more like fun, fashion rings to me. But that's fine if that is the look you are after, of course.

Re: Is this a good Radiant Cut Diamond ??? PLEASE HELPPPPP

Justin, the best cut rounds will beat out 99.9% of radiants ANY day! If you want to get her a very fine cut diamond, go with an ideal cut round. You get what you pay for. If she has not expressed a preference, I think you are making a HUGE mistake considering a radiant! You cannot even approach the ...

Re: Newb here looking for help regarding some images I've go

Justin, you need to post a new thread. You can see from your ASET that there is little red and a lot of white/leakage. But it is very hard to impossible to find radiants with great light return.

Re: Please help me get the perfect engagement ring.

Okay, DS linked some nice 3 stone settings if you want to go that route. I'm still voting to do a nice solitaire and get the largest diamond you can now and then let her decided if she wants a 3 stone and do that for your anniversary. http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/compare.aspx?idnos=3663...

Re: Question on heart shaped eternity band

I think matching that many hearts would be a nightmare and some vendors might not to want to attempt it. Harry Winston probably had the stones custom cut to match, and that is likely reflected in the price . To be honest, hearts simply will not have the light return of excellent/ideal cut rounds.

Re: Thoughts on this diamond??

Interesting! Ok I will check out other bands and look into V-prongs. This one will have to do for the proposal but if we have to send it back for another setting than so be it. Thanks for the info! Btw, what is it that you like about the other stone you shared more than the other one? Just curious....

Re: Please help me get the perfect engagement ring.

These are platinum and includes the side stones, so that leaves about $4k for the diamond. I'd ask if they'd do H color in the side stones. The three stone with almost .90 center is going to give more finger coverage than a 1 ct round, so I'd go with the 3 stone for a 7.5 finger, http://www.whitefla...

Re: Please help me get the perfect engagement ring.

I am going to say go with side rounds and not pears. Pears usually look better with larger center stones so that the pears actually curve with the shank rather than sitting flat on top like wings. Your budget is going to be hard to do a three stone ring. Let me look and see what might be possible wh...

Re: how much can i get for my 2.55 carat diamond?

Well, considering you probably can't get $25k for it selling it yourself or on consignment, I am afraid that $25k might be your best bet IF that vendor has competitive prices, a stone you want, and you don't plan on upgrading again. I wish I had better news, but this is a great time to buy but a lou...

Re: Thoughts on this diamond??

Okay, that will be a no on the setting. First of all, you need any setting with diamonds on the shank to be at least 1.8mm. A flimsy shank may go out of round and you can lose the little stones. The other issue is that princess cuts NEED a head with V prongs to protect the corners of the stone. I wo...

Re: Thoughts on this diamond??

Welcome! :wavey: I just have to say that it is always a better idea to post here before you order rather than after. I think the diamond looks fine. I don't see a big difference in diameter from the other .90's, so that looks okay. IF clarity is overkill, but it doesn't seem to add too much to the p...

Re: How rare is non-blue fluorescence?

I am going to say that you might have to call in and check hundreds of diamonds to find one that is well cut and happens to have fluorescence in a color other than blue! I do not think that is reasonable since finding a well cut emerald cut stone is hard enough. Plus, blue is the best color of fluor...

Re: how much can i get for my 2.55 carat diamond?

Here's an ACA at about $30k: http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3596858.htm Ideal cuts will run a little less than hearts and arrows, so maybe $28ish retail price, and you would likely sell for 20-25% below retail.
