Re: Asscher studs? Worth it or pass?

Ideal cut MRB for me, too. I wanted the diamonds to show up from a distance, so I chose the ones with the best light return. I love asschers in rings, though!

Re: Thoughts on this asscher?

I really like that third one, too. If you did double claw prongs, it might help hide the inclusions. I actually bought an SI1 antique asscher myself. It's tricky getting SI in an asscher, but it is possible depending on the type and location of inclusions.

Re: Help with Loose Diamond for Tacori Setting

I don't really like the cut on the .9 J VS1. And you can't count on the fluorescence making the stone look whiter in many lighting environments. The .92 has obvious black inclusions. I really recommend I color because you often can see the tint in a modern round in J color. But you'd have to go down...

I love it! :appl: And I agree it was a great choice to wear with a Love bracelet! Also, I am in agreement on the luxe packaging! Nothing else like it!

Somewhere on here there is a Show Me Your VCA thread, so I hope you will add your necklace!!!

Re: Thoughts on this Cushion Cut

I'd rather see you go for a cushion than a princess, but honestly, the antique style cushions will blow most of these out of the water. http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond-search/2.11-august_vintage_cushion-I-AGS-I-VVS2-diamond-stock-15158-cert-104090321001 http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond-search/2...

Re: Help with 2.5-3CT Princess cut

Yes, cut is absolutely number 1. I would aim for G-H color unless your budget allows you to go higher. I'd go with VS clarity. You are going to find more stones around the low 2 ct range than the 2.5-3, unfortunately. Examples of some great cut stones would be: http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamon...

Re: Mine... almost! 4.00ct rose cut solitaire

I think it is beautiful. Have you ever tried on a rose cut like this before? Because of it's size, I suspect you may be able to see through to your finger. So this is one you really have to see in person (during the return period) to know if it is a forever stone for you. I'd put a halo around a ros...

Re: Novice need help to evaluate a small stone

It's a small stone so it probably won't matter, but in the event you ever buy another diamond, I am going to post some guidelines for you. Even using the guidelines, the ASET and idealscope images are great to confirm light return. These are measurements to help you stay in ideal cut territory with ...

Re: Novice need help to evaluate a small stone

The center does show leakage which is why the images are so valuable. You want the center to be red and have little to no white or black in the center, depending on the background color.

This is what you are aiming for:

Re: Thoughts on this asscher?

Hey, Jimmianne! I've missed seeing you around here! As far as these asschers go, the angle at which they are videoed makes it very hard to see how the stone looks head on. I can't tell enough from that. Have you requested an ASET on them? I think we need that.

Re: Comments on these two diamonds from Whiteflash

I guess it depends on how clarity sensitive you are and what they say when you inquire about the clarity. Your second stone and the one tyty posted do look cleaner, though. Whiteflash is very honest about these things because they really want you to be happy. So ask if you haven't already!

Re: Please help me figure out search parameters for studs

I would always stay within ideal cut parameters even for studs, and especially when ordering diamonds you haven't seen. It makes them able to be used for other purposes later, such as side stones for a ring, and they'd be far easier to sell if you ever wanted to. I don't see any way my studs could b...

Re: Please help me understand the difference btwn these diam

That .89 is an excellent buy! Diamonds go up a lot at .90-.99 due to being so close to 1 carat. That's why the high .80's are a great buy. I don't really like the clarity of the .88 SI1 stone. I'd consider either of these two Expert Selection stones that are still AGS Ideal cut as a match. http://ww...

Oh my goodness!!! A 3 stone AVR with 2 ct center!!!   So happy for you! But your proportions are great What diameter are your sides, and what is your ring size?

Re: Have to ask you guys Asscher vs OEC

Asschers are better in halos unless they are pretty large. That enhances the size appearance and also serves as a frame for the stone which I think it so attractive. I am having an antique asscher set now without a halo because I was afraid it would be too large for daily wear, but I also hope I don...

Re: Your opinion of these FICs for Earrings

Both of those stones are deep which might result in loss of diameter, aside from other issues. I just stick with ideal cut measurements, personally, as Garry's preferred stones can be a little more complicated to find. These are measurements to help you stay in ideal cut territory with a GIA excelle...

Re: Transitional lovers please help! Dreamer are you out the

As long as it is the look you prefer, that's fine. It has a 60 table which is on the larger side for old cut stones. I prefer low 50's max for a tranny, and smaller for an OEC. Dreamer's diamond has a table of around 50 and lower girdle facets in the 60 range, so it's a little different than this on...

I agree. Most local benches are not going to do this well. In fact, I would trust no one in the large city near me to do a custom setting. I'd take macro pictures of some their bench has done and post them here.

Re: Visiting GoodOldGold - Any advice??!?

Definitely have the plain doughnut! That is what allows you to wear a band without the band touching your prongs. That used to be a problem with LM rings, because he would have his baskets so low that a wedding band would rub the prongs. But there is a better way to make them...not ultra low and the...
