Hi all, I found this website and was wondering if anybody bought from them before and if yes how was the experience? http://www.gemwow.com/ It seems that they host multiple dealers and the stone I''m interested in is from Star Shine Limited so if anybody knows about this dealer in particular and can... |

Hi Stephanie, I started to collect gemstomes about a 1 year ago and found few sourves by trial an error. there couple of things I would recommend. 1. read, read, read: the more you read about gems the better idea you''ll get if the stone you are looking at is anything special and worth the asking pr... |

I find that the biggest problem with online vendors is accurate pictures. it is very hard to get a good picture of the stone. they are either enhanced on photoshop and much worse in real life or quite the opposite pictures just too pale. How close was the actual color to the picture on the website? ... |

Thanks a lot for the info. given my budget I will likely be able to afford a stone around 1ct. I''m guessing that smaller stones in good color are easier to find than larger stones. I saved a picture from Multicolour. what do you think of the color? is that as green as it gets or you''ve seen better... |

Hi everybody, interesting thread. I have a somewhat related question. I saw some green tanzanites in books and color seem to be very nice. I have not seen any in real life. I saw one at Multicolour few months back and it was something like $2000/ct. I was wondering how rare these green tanzanites re... |

Hi all, I agree with Vincent. Disclosure is very important, especially when it comes to introducing a new element into a stone. as far as i understand there is a big difference in price between heated blue sapphire and titanium lattice diffusion sapphire. even though beryllium treatment should be de... |

Thanks a lot for your input everybody. It seems that this is not a well known lab. one thing that turned me off was the certificate itself. there is no information on tone or saturation. when i asked the seller for this information he did not reply. so after all i decided not to bid. I''m becoming m... |

Hi Edward, very nice overview of semiprecious stones. I was looking on kornerupine for sometime now but the only one I found are brownish-green. I saw a picture of a very nice bright pure green/ maybe slightly yellowish-green kornerupine in Schumann''s book Gemstones of the World but did not see any... |

Thank you for your input. I used wrong term. You right, stone needs to be completely recut not just repolish, since most of the facet edges abraded. lapidarist who saw the stone said that it should not lose much weight, according to him only few points and will retain same general cut. i think it is... |

Thank you guys for your input. I have an update. Took the stone to a gemologist today. he identified it as demantoid, though could not see any "horsetail". as far as i understand not all Russioan demantoids have "horsetail". he also agreed that stone has a lot of wear damage, it will cost $60 to rep... |

ebay demantoid
I''m in need of an advise. I won a demantoid garnet on ebay from seller "goryll" ( he has very good feedback record, 99.8% positive) but when I got the stone it had a lot of damage, most of the facet edges were chipped, worn out. there was no mentioning about it in the listing " This is a great ston... |
