Platinum is a tougher, softer setting, so that would be my choice for that style of setting. The prongs will bend better around tiny stones, making loss less likely in the long run. With this style of band, you shouldn't see much change to the setting due to scratches. With either metal, I would not... |

Yes, this is normal. Every stone that is smaller and the same color (or even a shade lower in color) will usually look 'whiter' (not necessarily brighter) when compared to a larger stone. I picked a chunkier setting for my ering, but if I wasn't trying to counteract ring spin, I would choose the thinner setting. Alas, this is never to be unless they develop knuckle surgery  .

I had a ring like that - it must have snuck through quality control on that one, unfortunately. I would definitely have them re-do the ring. Mine just drove me crazy and I didn't like to wear it, so I finally took it in for a re-do. Now all of the stones are touching and it looks great. |

I would personally choose the larger ones. One of my original settings had .15ct pears, and they looked a bit small (next to my original 1.48ct). The only reason the setting still 'worked' was because of other stones that surrounded the pears.

Absolutely, don't put invisible settings into a sonic cleaner! Best way to loosen & eventually lose those stones.

I agree with Lop - keep the stone and have them take the setting back - or see if they can work out a compromise and just have them remove the trillions, so you can have another jeweler set a better color into your setting. If you are not too attached to the setting, by all means talk to other vendo... |

Beautiful stone and great complimentary setting for it. It really shows off the rock. I love to see marquise cut stones here (my sister's absolute favorite cut). Looks like a really nice proportion, too.

Hi USC, I suspect that the dark areas are the ones that reflect the most light - in well cut round stones, almost the entire stone looks dark in that type of light. So...that is a good thing, not a bad thing.

LOL, I think that they are just being very happy and enthusiastic about their purchase! There are situations where a diamond doesn't glitter like crazy, despite opinions to the contrary. Hi Demelza, I liked your ring before a lot too, but the best change in my opinion is the more feminine, rounded band. Very nice, and I love a well cut emerald that flashes bars of fire.
