Hi Codex, First of all, don''t at all worry about any stone switching! He (Oscar) has been in business for many years and is very reputable. You are very right about the salesgirl - Oscar is really the only one that has diamond knowledge. I also agree that he comes off as not caring if he makes...

I have purchased diamonds from Oscar''s, and you can indeed negotiate.  If it is a carat or more, you may be able to knock off another $100 or so. Usually works best if you are buying a nicer (more than $400) setting from them as well, and you are pleasant about it. They are usually lower than ...

I had a 1.48ct J color stone (not H&A or ideal cut), and the girdle was bruted as well. The girdle was thin to med, GIA. I did notice the slightly frosted look from the side, but it made no difference to the look of the diamond from the top. I also kept mine clean, so never noticed a dirt buildup of...

Is there something I am missing here? Big price diff between $1850 and $1055 thanks---------------- Not to worry - I have just purchased a similar eternity band (but shared prong) for $950 in platinum in downtown LA. The price difference between yours and mine is due to my ring size being a 4.5, so...

Platinum is a tougher, softer setting, so that would be my choice for that style of setting. The prongs will bend better around tiny stones, making loss less likely in the long run. With this style of band, you shouldn't see much change to the setting due to scratches. With either metal, I would not...

Yes, this is normal. Every stone that is smaller and the same color (or even a shade lower in color) will usually look 'whiter' (not necessarily brighter) when compared to a larger stone. Sad but true. That is usually why jewelers will usually suggest placing lower colored side stones next to a larg...

I picked a chunkier setting for my ering, but if I wasn't trying to counteract ring spin, I would choose the thinner setting. Alas, this is never to be unless they develop knuckle surgery Image.

I had a ring like that - it must have snuck through quality control on that one, unfortunately. I would definitely have them re-do the ring. Mine just drove me crazy and I didn't like to wear it, so I finally took it in for a re-do. Now all of the stones are touching and it looks great.

I would personally choose the larger ones. One of my original settings had .15ct pears, and they looked a bit small (next to my original 1.48ct). The only reason the setting still 'worked' was because of other stones that surrounded the pears. Image

I agree with Lop - keep the stone and have them take the setting back - or see if they can work out a compromise and just have them remove the trillions, so you can have another jeweler set a better color into your setting. If you are not too attached to the setting, by all means talk to other vendo...

I helped one of my friends buy an oval 1.10 carat D SI1 diamond. Very nice, with a minimal bowtie, but it was still there a bit, just like in a pear. Still, it was a very pleasing shape and I think I like it better than the pear as a center stone, because it is rounded at each end (just my preferenc...

Hi USC, I suspect that the dark areas are the ones that reflect the most light - in well cut round stones, almost the entire stone looks dark in that type of light. So...that is a good thing, not a bad thing. Image
