Re: Cloth Diapers?

So the thirsties duo definitely fit different than the thirsties regular. when S was little, I liked the sized thirsties regular better. The duo are narrower and have a lot more rise in them, even if you snap up the rise. Whatever, I think the duo size one never fit Silas right. And he outgrew them ...

broke out a lot and also wanted more sexy time. then time passed, and things went back closer to normal. my skin was still more oily than on hbc, but not too bad and mostly under control unless i didn't wash it or something. and i noticed the libido-increase was cyclical. funny how that biology work...

Re: Accuracy of ultrasound sex determination??

At what age gestation, how good a look did the person get, and what are their qualifications? Well trained people that get a good look at 14 weeks gestation are 95+% accurate. Cant remember the exact percentage, but its high, they have done a study. The wrong predictions usually happen when someone ...

Re: PS Mommy Thread-Newborn to 12 months!

Allie I buy into the open gut theory to some extent, it is definitely part of why I wanted to breastfeed, my husband is a doc and, say, didn't want us giving newborn Silas cold milk (rather than warm) b/c of his immature gut, but still the reason we didn't start solids at 4 mo was because of fear of...

Re: Daycare troubles - WWYD?

Allie, while of course you should bring it up again, I think you are beyond your comfort level with these particular care providers so you should look elsewhere for his care. Unless, through conversations with your husband and the center, etc, you can feed confident in their caregiving again. For th...

Re: Will Dr. induce?

I thought I had posted here, did it get eaten? Anyway there is data that shows increasing complications with elective inductions prior to 39 weeks. Used to be that many doctors would induce absent medical cause after 37 weeks thinking that the baby is fully baked and the last few weeks don't matter,...

LV just taking a break from work to say that I found the nose frieda at Whole Foods, if you have one near you. Sympathies on the one month old with a cold! And don't feel bad about calling your doctor to get reassurance. They want to keep a close eye on the little ones.

Re: Cloth Diapers?

Basil sorry about your DH but, if I am reading his objections correctly, they are a little extreme? If the standard is that things that have ever come in contact with poo are gross and must be avoided (and cleaning them is impossible) then life would be difficult. Manure is used as fertilizer, our w...

Re: Cloth Diapers?

Charbie, I was also worried my DH was going to be resistant to the cloth idea, but I basically convinced him to give them a try. We use a diaper service, so I basically said we'll try it for a few months and if it isn't for us we can just cancel it and switch to disposables. Meanwhile I went about b...

Re: PS Mommy Thread-Newborn to 12 months!

Allie I just thought I would chime in and say that S is also showing signs of boob preference these days. He's always done a little bit of reverse cycling, but know that he's older its more obvious. I was late getting home today and he wouldn't take the bottle from DH, he just kept rejecting it, cry...

Re: Pumpers unite!

The freestyle has different membranes and spare parts than the PIS. The bottles are the same, the breast flanges are the same, but that's it. The rest is different. So my system has been: Freestyle, pump both sides once in the middle of the day at work into medela bottles, and then pump one side ext...

Re: PS Mommy Thread-Newborn to 12 months!

Well the article also had some reasonable points - human babies are born substantially premature relative to many other mammals, even among primates, hence the "fourth trimester" newborn phase of complete helplessness, followed by babyhood, which still does not involve killer levels of com...

Re: Surprise Pregnancy WWYD?

Wow, the technology on genotyping in the academic world is changing so rapidly, it is a shame it hasn't quite trickled down to things like this yet. You can get your entire genome sequenced for something like $10,000 and in a month-like timeframe now, yet still in might take a month to get results b...

Re: Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

The hospital-grade symphony pump personal parts kit is ~$40 and the pump is another $40/month to rent. Okay, some places more some places less on both those numbers. But that's $80 give or take in the first month that you could have spent on your own personally owned pump. Of course the symphony is ...

Re: Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

The pump + bottles thing *is* a hassle if bfing is going well, but its also a lifestyle thing. If you want your LO to take a bottle for some flexibility in your schedule or for going back to work, etc, the LCs recommended introducing a bottle at 3-5 weeks and continuing with a bottle once a day most...

What's the tongue thrust? S has started gagging when you try to give him something to suck on like a pacifier, but will happily chew on stuff put more in the teeth growing regions.Just curious at this point as he is a bitearly for solids.

Puppmom, you are ahead of me on the whole child growing thing, so I certainly don't have more experience than you, but FWIW it doesn't sound like you have a supply issue. Maybe your son had a growth spurt this weekend (okay, so temporarily you had a supply issue) or something else that made him want...

Re: PS Mommy Thread-Newborn to 12 months!

Noel, my LO is not sleeping through at 3 months. My friend's 6 mo old is not sleeping through either (though they have stopped feeding him at night to remove any incentive for the night waking.) Noel, piranha face, awesome, its where can I suck time? Glad you and your DH are finding a routine that works for you. Also in those early weeks Silas *loved* to be carried in the frontpack. Just make him warm (the carrier was really warm), give him a human to snuggle up to, and some bouncy bouncy (...

Re: PS Mommy Thread-Newborn to 12 months!

Lanie, It's possible but really depends on how things are going and how flexible you are on the whole feeding thing. My supply came in well so I didn't need to pump in the early weeks to help with supply, just breastfeed on demand. At 2.5 weeks I had pumped only a few times but not introduced the bo...

Re: Breastfeeding- how long is too long?

Personally, I think when the child can ask the question "mummy may I please have some milk" and pull up your shirt to nurse, then it's too long. I've heard a number of people say something like this is their limit, but *why*? This isn't meant to single you out, I've just heard this guidel...

If you already own the land then make the best decision for your future and do with it what you want - sell it or keep it (and pay the associated taxes and fees) and reap future rewards. Though if they have already legally transferred title and the land is difficult to sell then you may be stuck. In...

Re: Breastfeeding- how long is too long?

Well back in the 50s people thought formula was better. More scientific, modern way of feeding a kid. And way back there were wetnurses so that the lady of the house didn't have to do such things. There are also more modern examples of the formula-is-preferable mindset - such as the unscrupulous mar...

Re: Breastfeeding- how long is too long?

This is one of those topics where I am like *why* do we need to discuss it. Is extended breastfeeding really such a societal problem that it warrants random people discussing it at length so that they can decide how long is too long for someone else's family? Which is not to say that I think 10 yro ...

This is one of those times when (1) its none of your business and (2) even if you were to say something it is unlikely to be at all effective.
