Re: State schools vs privates

I was just discussing this with a friend deciding on where to go for grad school. In reality, beyond my initial job interview, no one has ever asked my GPA or where I went to school. I do not view all state schools are inferior to private. I went to a state school for both undergrad and graduate sch...

Re: Credit card debt

I use my discover card for points and pay it off each month. I am not surprised that people get into CC debt. I am amazed how people manage with low income jobs. Life is so expensive and I think some people reply on their CC to make ends meet. I also know my fair of people who live above their means...

Re: Anybody suffer from dry eye?

I have very dry eyes which causes my eyes to water frequently. My triggers are wind and cold. It probably looks like I am crying! I haven't tried eye drops yet.

Re: Out-of-wedlock child birth is the new norm

Two parents are not better if one or both parents are unstable. Please remember that not all people are able to be good parents. Marriage license does not increase someone's parenting abilities. My POV is one of a single mother who was raised my two wonderful parents who have been married for 44 yea...

Re: Out-of-wedlock child birth is the new norm

I think everyone should live by the values they themselves find important. Some people think it's important to be married to have a child together. Others don't. That doesn't mean they don't have "family values" - it means their family values are different than yours, and that's okay. dit...

Re: Utah plays doctor, legislates anesthesia for abortions

I actually watched a good documentary last night on late term abortions. It was interesting to hear the doctor's perspectives. They said there are only 4 doctors (at the time of shooting) that specialize in late term abortions in the US. They showed both women who chose abortions after learning that...

Re: What do you think of paying kidney donors?

DH and I talked about this today. He is absolutely opposed to payment of any form for a donation. He makes the moral argument. So..... I got to thinking also about donation after death. I wonder how many people never give it any thought as a topic they don't want to talk about and then family gets ...

Re: What do you think of paying kidney donors?

Hi Tacori, I should have stopped at the word regeneration. I did know a physician who did the early research on liver regeneration. It was a new process at the time as most thought the liver couldn't regenerate. Thanks for clarifying my statement. I very muchl ike the chain idea. I haven't kept up ...

Re: What do you think of paying kidney donors?

Hi, Perhaps, as in the case of a kidney, a contractual promise that if the donor needs a kidney later in life, he/she would move to the top of the list for a new kidney. I understand that a liver regenerates, so that if a piece is removed from a donor, it will eventually grow back. If more people u...

Re: What do you think of paying kidney donors?

I work in Transplant and few of my patients would be in the position to pay for an organ. I also find it unethical. UNOS was created to be a far playing field so the sickest patients, not the richest, get the organs they need. A larger problem that I see is people's resistance to be organ donors. Ou...

Re: State schools vs privates

Student loans are a burden. If she is offered a free ride I would encourage her to take it. No one really asks where I went to school (state for both my undergrad and graduate degree). However, I hear my coworkers complain all the time about their loans.

I have been super duper into a lot of Korean brands for skin care and make up recently. Etude House, Holika Holika, 3ce, A'Pieu, BHA and more. I have really bad combination skin and for the longest time nothing worked. I tried everything from prescription brand cleansers and moisturizers, to presti...

Thanks tyty & CJ, He got hurt but he survived the ordeal. He didn't ask for my advice but I gave a heads up anyway because I knew there was a high likelihood for it to happen and I didn't want to have to deal with it (listen to his misery etc.) if it happened because I personally think it could...

I know it may be difficult to resist judgement but unless there is abuse, I do not express my opinion on other people's relationships. People are attracted to power. We know Clinton is not the only president to cheat on his wife.

Re: Do Bad People Exist?

I actually think nature plays just as an important role as nurture. I know we all want to comfort ourselves with that idea that if we are good people, our children will be good people. It is not 100% social modeling.

Re: Do Bad People Exist?

I really encourage my patients to ask for clarification if I say something they do not understand or the freedom to disagree with me. Personally, if your therapist's answer bothers you, ask him/her. I agree with the poster that spoke about practicing your assertive commutation skills.

Re: Do Bad People Exist?

As a fellow therapist, I can *usually* separate the person with their poor behavior. However, I think there are a subgroup of the population that are total in darkness. It reminds me of the J.K. Rowling quote, "We've all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to a...
