Re: Confession time - Have you played Pokemon Go?

I think anything to get people moving and out of the house is awesome. It is an innocent, fun game. Of course there are people that have gotten themselves in trouble but that is not the game's fault. People need to use common sense and stay aware of their surroundings.

Re: Falling off one wagon and staying on another

I specialize in addiction counseling so I agree with what others have said. It is great that you are seeing the abuse potential before you fall down the rabbit hole. There are more deaths from prescription medication overdoses than car accidents in our country. It is a HUGE problem. Taking someone e...

Re: Any tips on buying used cars?

I have not had great luck negotiating at car dealerships. Even though I usually e-mail in advance to make sure they negotiate AND walk away, it just seems difficult to get them down much. I bought in cash which I think actually works against you since they can't make money off financing. Buying a ca...

Re: A little red wine for heart health or no alcohol at all?

People overestimate the benefits of wine. Like sugar, it is fine in moderation for *most* people, but I know a great deal of people who are heavy drinkers without even knowing it (national guidelines are over 7 servings a week for a female). I work in the addiction field and specialize in solid orga...

Re: A little red wine for heart health or no alcohol at all?

The consequences of red wine outweigh the benefits if your drink more than half a serving a week (2.5 oz).

Re: Hangover Disproportionate to Intake

I am sure you are fine and hopefully something else just disagreed with you. However, reduce tolerance is a sign of poor liver function. There are ways to improve it so don't let that scare you. A simple blood test could put your mind at ease.

Re: Dealing with a friend's abusive husband

Tacori, I totally agree. She is being victimized, and needs support and empathy. I don't see being the victim of partner violence as being the same as addiction, nor do I see empathic listening in either situation as being enabling. I've told her that I can't be around him, because I am too angry, ...

Go to your PCP ASAP and have your liver function tested. It is a blood test.

Re: Dealing with a friend's abusive husband

There have been a few times over the years that this question comes up and my answer is the same. You can be supportive of your friend. You can let her know that if she decides to leave that you'll be there to help her through that tough time. You can NOT do a damn thing about his behavior or about...

Re: Largest ct size for daily wear?

As I get older, the size of my diamond ideal shrinks. I work in human services so I am not sure I would feel comfortable with anything larger than a carat.

Re: Scientists: Stop Brazilian Summer Olympics ... ZIKA

My co-worker is also thinking about turning down a spot. I cannot imagine having to make such a huge decision. She has earned the right to perform and I feel sad that the threat of Zika is high enough to keep athletes from participating.

Re: Teach your daughters not to get drunk

It's never the victim's fault. I think we forget that men ALSO get raped. Often. I agree with Joe Biden's letter what said everyone who saw her and did not intervene were also the blame. I can only hope my daughter never black out drinks. However if she does, I can only hope those around her will he...

Re: Couples, Sex, and Sexless Marriage/Relationships

I think it is a problem if both people aren't on the same page. I think sexual compatibility is REALLY important (whatever end of the spectrum you fall on). I also would be kinda ticked if my SO complained to his friends about me. I know this is an issue for lots of couples as it often comes up in f...

Re: Out-of-wedlock child birth is the new norm

I think everyone should live by the values they themselves find important. Some people think it's important to be married to have a child together. Others don't. That doesn't mean they don't have "family values" - it means their family values are different than yours, and that's okay. dit...
