Re: How much 'honestly' do you drink?

I drink very rarely. Maybe 4 drinks (servings) a year. I have many reasons for this. The major is despite popular belief alcohol is just not good for you. Any health benefits become health risks after .5-1 *serving* a week. Moderate to heavy drinking (7+ servings for a woman a week is considered hea...

Re: Moving back to East Coast. MD or NC top options.

I loved living in NC. I found the major cities fairly liberal. Rural NC, not so much. Cost of living is so low. Summers are quite hot though. :wavey: We miss you, S! Hope your family is doing well! It's suppose to snow tonight so I have fond memories of NC :wink2: Hope you are doing well J! L, I re...

Re: Working in healthcare and baring tattoos

I have worked in three major hospital systems. One could not have visible tattoos. The last two (which includes my current) can have visible tattoos but they cannot be offensive. I work with people with visual tattoos and don't think it is an issue. I also work in Mental Health so boundaries can be ...

Re: HELP US MOVE PLZZZZZZ

Deco, what about North Carolina? The weather there tends to be fairly moderate and there is an area called "tech triangle" that could be a good job spot for hubby. Bill and I actually considered moving there several years ago because he is also in tech (telecom to be specific) and there a...

Re: RIP Phillip Seymour Hoffman

I think it is also important to understand that addiction is a progressive disease. Even in recovery, the urges, craving, and obsession can continue. When people relapse they don't start back up where they left off. Their addiction has progressed and usually so have the consequences (legally, social...

Re: A question for divorcees.

I am recently divorced. I feel marriage is wonderful but am not sure I would get married again. Do I want to date? I have the take it or leave it attitude right now. If I meet someone that's great but I am very careful and definitely have PTSD symptoms from my marriage. I think it will be difficult ...

Re: RIP Phillip Seymour Hoffman

I was sad to read of this news. He was a talented actor and I enjoyed many of his performances. It is so sad when someone dies because of an addiction because it was a death that could have been prevented if only he had enough desire within himself to make the change and a strong enough support sys...

Re: Do you mind the question, "What do you do?"

Most people really identify with their careers. It becomes part of them. I only minded when I hated previous jobs/careers. It was more about my discontentment than the actual question. I am really proud of my current career. I don't mind at all but sometimes I do get "trapped" in conversa...

Re: If You See Something, Whom Do You Tell?

I work in mental health and I hate to say it but there is one major advantage of being involuntarily committed (at least where I live). The county HAS to pay for the stay if the patient does not have insurance. Just something to think about if you are feeling guilty about calling the police. Also, i...

Re: If You See Something, Whom Do You Tell?

You call the police or crisis center. If someone is having homicidal ideation they need to be taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment. My guess is if he is not already involved in county services, he will be after this (which is not a bad thing). Because of a famous case, Tarasoff, potentia...

Re: Do most women think that they look...

I don't think, I know I do. I can easily get 5, sometimes 10 years younger. I have always looked younger and used to hate it. Now I love it. My mother looks way younger than her age (10-15 years younger) and my grandmothers looked younger than their age. Good genes I guess.

Re: Are your jewelry items insured?

I am so glad I had my wedding set insured because I did have to file a claim. It seems like the small premiums are worth the peace of mind. Jewelry can easily become lost or stolen.

Re: Do You Care What People Think Of You?

I have learned it is none of my business what people think of me. I usually do not, or at least, not in the long run. Age, life experience, my job has all thickened my skin. It is not uncommon for someone to yell at me at work. That does not bother me as I know it is not personal. I have moments of ...

Re: Should I call CPS and try for an Amber Alert?

I was worried about that. I don't anything about family law. Hopefully you can find a good lawyer and maybe they can do a "change of venue" to CA. I imagine since they are residents in CA, it is possible if your step-son can argue he has more stable roots there (home, job, family, etc). I ...

Thanks Laurie :)) It is a calling. I know my patients know I sincerely care about them and even though most are only with us for a few days, that's important to me. Re: Did the Senator kill his son in self defense?

The police get involved and some counties are more likely to "chapter" than others. Please, what does this use of the term 'chapter' mean? Chapter is basically an involuntary commitment. I am in WI (so the numbers differ) but here a *Chapter 51.15* means harm to self or others. They will ...

Re: Did the Senator kill his son in self defense?

This violence from disgruntled young adults is getting to the ridiculous level. So you're unhappy and life isn't working out for you. That's no excuse to attack other people. Personally, I am not sad when one of these perps either winds up dead by his/her own hand, or the police get tired of foolin...

Nonie, you are a real angel for these children. not many would have persevered as you did. :appl: diamond, they can feed into one another's manic and/or depression episodes. upping the situation, or progressively spiraling down. not a great combo for a couple, imo. Re: Should I call CPS and try for an Amber Alert?

That's why getting the county crisis center involved is helpful. They are mental health professionals (not police) and have relationships with the local hospitals. They know what they are looking for and can best assess the situation. The issue I see is that they aren't staying in one place and coun...
