Re: Reasons for divorce after 20 or 30 years?

Personally I think talking about things is much different than actually experiencing things. In the past it was easy for me to say what I thought I would do in any situation. Life has taught me life is not so black and white.

Re: Reasons for divorce after 20 or 30 years?

Simple, money and children. Divorce is expensive which keeps some people in unhappy marriages. Some people still feel being together unhappily is better than a "broken home." I hate that saying. It is beyond hurtful and ignorant. Of course the ideal is to marry happily but people change. S...

Re: Jewelry & Flower Companies Ashley Madison "Victim" Disco

I don't know if I would want to know. I don't really believe in hypotheticals. There have been many situations in life I could not predict or I reacted differently than I would I guessed. I do feel bad for the spouses. I am sure it would be a shock to search your partner's e-mail address and see the...

Re: Sister-in-law's Destination Wedding: How Much Is Too Muc

Family dynamics can be tough. It isn't really any of your business *why* she planned a destination wedding. People are allowed to have their motives and hey, at least she was honest about them. I hear you when you say your brother wants to be there for her but remember, that is a choice. Sounds like...

Re: Sister-in-law's Destination Wedding: How Much Is Too Muc

They can plan anything they want. That is their choice. Just as you and your husband can choose not to attend. Unless she is completely clueless, I am sure she knows that is a risk she runs. While I agree with you 100%, unfortunately family dynamics do get in the way. Sometimes the HC will pressure...

Re: Hidden Netflix Gem Thread

I watched "Welcome to Me" and had a hard time with the fact they (the writers) confused Borderline Personality Disorder with Bipolar. Hi Tacori, funny you should mention that because I was sort of confused about that label too. I am not in the mental health field however like you are so I...

Re: Chicago in November?

I live close and have been there in early November. It is cold for sure but not painful like Jan/Feb. Bring a warm jacket/clothes and you will be fine.

I would find it funny not rude. It is his choice to accept and as a non-confrontational I prefer this interaction.

Re: Yelp Reviews -- When the Owner Responds

I just checked. My negative reviews are still on Yelp. Though my mom tried to write one and they would not let her submit it. Something about only posting some of the reviews but I have never had one not post. I have had owners respond via the review and PMs several times. They always were trying to...

Re: Best at-home hair color kits?

I also use L'Oreal Preferences. I use "Medium Brown" which is a dark brown with red undertones. Love it. I have been using this brand for 10 years and have never had any issues. Beware, "Dark Brown" (which I consider my hair color) comes out black.

Re: finding shirts

I think fabric makes a huge difference. I avoid any clingy type of fabric because it is unforgiving. I also avoid really long shirts since I am also shorter and I think it looks odd. I have luck at loft, banana, talbots, and jjill. When I find one that works I buy a few colors.

Re: Friends with Horrendous Problems - A Life Stage?

I had a professor in Grad school say, "you didn't break them, you can't fix them." Being in the helping profession, I have made this my motto at work and at home. I work with people of all different ages. Youngest was 17, oldest in their 70s and life does not just pick on the old. Every ag...

Re: Airbnb- any experiences, both good and bad?

My brother has an airbnb in SF. It is a win/win. Cheaper and more space for the travelers. Extra money for the home owner. It is peer rated so people leave him a rating and he leaves them a rating. Seems pretty legit. Not sure I would be comfortable renting a private room though. FYI they give them ...

Re: Poll: do you pump your own gas?

I haven't seen a full service station in years. So yes, I pump my own gas. I don't find it that taxing unless it is the dead of winter.

Re: Husband - functioning alcoholic - what to do?

I hope this doesn't offend people as several people have not found Al-Anon helpful. I have been actively involved for over 5 years. When I say active, I mean REALLY active. The first few years I went to 3-5 meetings a week. The past few, I attend 1-2 meetings a week. It isn't for everyone but for wh...

Re: Do You Value Friendship?

I really value *good* friendships. As I get older I really enjoy what I call "easy" friendships. The kind where neither feels obligated to call regularly but when you are together it is like no time has gone by. I am really lucky to have a handful of those types of friends. I used to be st...

Re: Husband - functioning alcoholic - what to do?

It is very important to act FAST when someone expresses desire for help. They will change their mind. He will need a place that can do medical detox. Worse case he can go to a medical hospital for detox and transfer to rehab. Let me know if you have any questions. This is what I do everyday.

Re: Ladies, how do you feel about aging?

This is actually a question that is asked on a grief assessment I give to patients ;)) so clearly it can be a common issue for folks. I have a mixed reaction.
