Re: Husband - functioning alcoholic - what to do?

The real problem isn't the drugs or alcohol....it is the inability to cope with life without mood altering substances. Just stopping is a bandaid to a larger problem. 12 step meetings are not for everyone but you cannot and should not underestimate the amount of people who have found support throug...

Re: Husband - functioning alcoholic - what to do?

Denial is powerful. Addiction is the only disease I know of where you can love someone to death (by enabling). However, I deal with families and they do not realize how powerful and dysfunctional their actions are. Ideally there is treatment for the WHOLE family. My suggestion is talk to his parents...

Re: Husband - functioning alcoholic - what to do?

I think everyone has a right to know their genetic make-up and addiction is a highly genetic disease. About one in ten people suffer with addiction. You are four times more likely if your parent has the disease as well (sober or not). I know I used to worry about my own daughter but I have surrender...

Re: Husband - functioning alcoholic - what to do?

First off I am very sorry. I know how difficult it is to care about someone lost in their addiction. I am a substance abuse therapist and most the folks I work with are in late stage addiction. There is so much most people do not understand about the disease. Most of all it is progressive. He will g...

Re: This guy's happy to give her half ... in their divorce

Stuff like this makes me sad. Guess we have a different sense of humor. To destroy property out of spite and revenge :nono: is really sick. I like to assume there was once love in their relationship. They say you only know someone once you go through a divorce. Guess I can guess the type of guy he i...

Re: Is it common now to have a baby shower with every child?

Well if we want to get right down to brass tacks about it-shouldn't matter if you have babies of different genders or not, b/c it's not anyone else's responsibility to provide for your child. If people want to get something for a 2nd or 3rd etc child, they can, nobody is stopping them. *Generally* ...

Re: Is it common now to have a baby shower with every child?

Seems to be. Personally I don't like it unless the kids are VERY far apart. I have been to several showers where the kids are same sex and only a few years apart. What possibly could they need? I have been to a few "sprinkles" too. Not a full blown shower. It's becoming a pet peeve of min...

Re: Vitamin D very low

welcome to the club ;) I tested at a 7 before. Most people have low vitamin D. You will probably have to take vitamins for a long time.

Re: How Do You Stop/Control Worrying?

Therapy and making the decision to change. A deliberate choice. I don't remember a time in my life when I didn't have anxiety. Even as a small child. If my mom was late picking me up I thought she died in a car accident or abandoned me. That's not a normal thought for a young child. For me, most of ...

Re: Opinions on septum piercing

It's not something I would ever do but I try not to judge what other people think is beautiful. I can see why it would be distracting though. I also find face tattoos very distracting.

Re: Experiences with Bank Safety Deposit Boxes?

We used to have one (came free with business accounts). I had a key and they had a key. Needed both to open the box. Also they had private viewing rooms.

Re: Good Price for Jewelry Insurance?

Thanks, Kenny. As you know, people vary. So operating on the assumption that a person does want to insure, because they have their own reasons, I think that $16 per 1k of coverage seems fair. I guess anyone with experience of these premiums who is going to reply has done so, but are there any more ...

Re: Good Price for Jewelry Insurance?

Sounds fair to me. I am a fear based person so love insurance (all types) ;) Having actually used my jewelry insurance policy, I am even more of a fan. The cash really does help heal the loss.

Re: Program vehicles

That's really frustrating. I don't know much about lemon laws or what are the consumer rights laws. I hope you get some compensation because one expects a reliable product no matter what brand car is bought. If you can get away with only having one car (or two trucks in your case) think about the ca...

Re: Program vehicles

I think big decisions need to be made with the head not the heart. When I was looking for a new car my heart wanted BRAND new. The more I test drove and played around with the numbers the more sense it made for me to by used. I found the exact car I wanted 18 months old with 15K miles on it. Saved m...

Maybe 10-15 minutes. I would NEVER shut off the water in between lathers. That sounds horrible and cold! So is there a term between Navy and Hollywood?

Re: Non-toxic products?

I like Zoya. Wait for a sale. They always seem to be happening. I have 6 different colors. All are pretty. I do notice the tips wear off faster than other polishes. I type a ton for my job though and my nails are long.

Re: Experience with Sleeping Pills?

I also take Ambien (well, the generic version, Zolpidem) and have for about a year now. I do notice that I wake up after abo...
