Re: Jeweler BURNED prongs during cleaning?!

I don't think it's polishing compound. I've rubbed it and tried to clean it myself to no avail. Looking at it through the loupe, it definitely looks like its been to a torch since the metal is discolored near the black part. Kinda goes from a white -> copperish -> black hue. I wouldn't discount tha...

Re: new 1.79 ct OEC and diamond polyamory

Beautiful collection; so glad you came to play! I love your setting idea for the OEC! ETA: The OEC used to be mine for a little while and your pictures are way better than mine were and I'm so happy it went to a loving home. :appl: Gotta love the bling merry-go-round! Re: new 1.79 ct OEC and diamond polyamory

LOVE that OEC! And it's amazing the way the AVC M appears to be just as white as the G asscher! The M AVC is a real chameleon. It has strong blue fluorescence, so in sunlight it is super white. Sometimes I can even see the fluor in the sun, I'm at altitude so I don't know if the stronger UV here ma...

It was impossible to get all the stones lined up so they looked their best at the same time, but hopefully you can get a feel for the different personalities of all the stones.

new 1.79 ct OEC and diamond polyamory

I should be studying for my qualifying exams so of course, instead, I'm chasing sunbeams taking pictures of my jewelry. Maybe if I share them with others that will also spread out my quilt over not reading the giant stack of papers I need to tackle. There have been several topics around here on what...

Re: Paging Haven and any other M and lower-color OMC/OEC own

I have a princess and asscher that are both GIA Gs and an AVC which is an AGS M. Sometimes the M is white white white and other times very obviously tinted. It's amazing what a chameleon it is. I dont have any good pictures of them together in artificial light, but here are a few in direct/indirect ...
color of ID jewelry's white gold

Can anyone tell me how white the white gold alloy ID jewelry uses is? I destroy rhodium plating, so the color of the white gold itself ends up being pretty prominent. Trying to decide if I should go with white gold or spend the extra money for platinum (about 600 bucks).

Thanks!

Re: Is it better?

Scares me more that the local drug dealer/gang member/criminal can have one in his pocket at the grocery store. I figure they're the ones that shouldn't have them. But this makes the assumption that if "non-criminals" also carry guns than people will be safer. People who commit crimes are...

safe to wear a chipped stone?

I just noticed a chip in a tourmaline I had set last week. I''m going to assume because it''s been a few days since I picked it up the jeweler will tell me I chipped the stone. Sigh. Theres nothing worse than that heart in your throat feeling when you notice something you love is damaged. The chip i...

Last one, the exotics are on the bottom here. I''m still trying to get a shot of the whole strands, but it has proved elusive. I hope these are helpful, I just cant seem to capture what the eye sees.

The exotics are 7-7.5mm and the freshadamas are 7.5-8mm.

Man its a nightmare to take good pictures of pearls. I can see the difference between the freshadamas and exotics clearly, but its hard to photograph. I got a few decent comparison shots. The exotics are on the right, you can see they have higher luster and more unique colours than the feshadama str...

Last one. There are some gorgeous purples in here. One a strongly pinky purple, another with green overtones and a silvery blue. All awesome.

Hope you enjoyed the pictures! For anyone on the fence, I would vote go for it!

Heres a few close ups of some of my favourite pearls. Of course they are so reflective that you mostly see a giant camera in all of them, but you can see the colours around the reflection pretty accurately.

The pink/green pearl kills me. So cool. The silvery lavender one next to it is gorgeous too.

I got my strand of exotics and I am utterly smitten with them. I kept wearing them looped around my wrist so I could see them so I just broke down and ordered a bracelet too. I do have a slight problem in that I think they may have made my multicolour freshadama strand redundant. Although the fresha...
