Re: So I got the cluster ring

Well, I LOVE it. I think the proportions are perfect for a cluster ring. I also love the setting with the bezeled centre and "cupped" halo stones (but I may be biased!) It is beautiful. My antique cluster probably has more the proportions you are looking for - 6.7-7.2mm centre and 3.4-3.5m...

Wow! What a makeover! I am a bit yellow ( :twirl: ) with envy, but also thrilled for you. Wonderful setting choice. It you ever need someone to be on standby for when your hand is tired of carrying that rock around, I am happy to volunteer to give you temporary respite! And yikes, what was up with t...

Re: Jewelers Mutual vs. Homeowners for erings over 2.5 ct

I have made a JM claim before. It was for a loss. I had an idea of where I lost it, but not exactly how, so it was one of those mysterious loss situations. I can't say enough great things about JM. Not only do they cover of course added items, but they have extensions for newly acquired items, cover...

Re: Niel's Five Stone - where do I find this gorgeous settin

I saw your post on wedding bee and all of those photos are of my ring. Oh yay, I knew the one above was a photo of yours for sure (as I have it saved as one of my favourites!) so I knew to send OP your way, but I was on my iphone and could not tell from the teeny photos if the others were too :) li...

Re: Stack/Multiple Ring Sizing

Distracts: my fingers are same as yours - about 1/4 size smaller under knuckle. That is part of why I have the beads, so they go over a fatter knuckle but do not spin once over knuckle! But I know spin is less an issue with multiples (or less top heavy rings) so maybe my reg size that goes over knuc...

Stack/Multiple Ring Sizing

I know this topic comes up now and then but I found too many answers when doing a search. I know lots of you stack! Question 1: I want to make a stack for my left hand to wear from time to time. My ring size is a 5, but for most rings (2-3mm band) I usually size up and add beads so it goes over my l...

Re: Engagement ring insurance Canada

First question, is 17k the retail replacement value? My appraisal was 25k for retail replacement value, but I knew the insurance company would never pay that, so I asked the appraiser to provide what it realistically would be replaced for, which was 11k. I use jewellers mutual, I'm in Canada. yes p...

Re: Show your Marquise Love!

Oh thank you soxfan! When I saw it on JbG I just felt like it needed to come home to me, even though it is far flashier than my general personal style. I became used to it quickly and now I feel something is missing if I don't wear it! :twirl:

Re: Show your Marquise Love!

I love this thread! There are some pretty amazing stones and rings in here. I pretty much am always wearing it...

Re: Pinch me! I must be dreaming...Asscher SK Halo and AVCs

Beautiful! I looked at this ring a few times on JbG and I am happy to see it went to a PSer!

I think it looks perfect on its own, but I tend to prefer most rings on their own.

Your AVC band is looking stunning as well and right at home on your ring finger

Re: Light Pink Diamond Double Halo Love!

Congratulations! I am not usually a "pink" sort of person, but that particular ring looks so pretty and feminine - and looks wonderful on you. And of course, owning a nice size pink diamond is a wonderful thing as well! I would never have guessed it to be .6ct! The colour kind of leaves me...

Re: My downgrade!

I totally eyed up that sapphire ring when it was for sale! I am a sucker for a rich blue sapphire in luscious yellow gold.

I don't think it is a downgrade at all - it sounds like for your style and your circumstances, it is an upgrade!

Re: Resizing - am I right to be upset about this? Or am I cr

I am bumping this as I cannot decide what to do. The wonkiness was bothering me so I took it somewhere else (with a good reputation and recommended by a couple of friends) for another quote for a half-shank. They called me today after their bench had the chance to look at it and gave me a quote of $...

Re: Insurance questions (Canada)

The differences for me between JM and any homeowner's rider was significant. For me JM was a no brainer. I have made a claim with JM. No, it did not affect my premiums, I could add the replacement, and keep coverage. A claim under homeowner's can cause a rise in premiums (with original insurance com...

Re: Question about the side of my ring

The only way to prevent that rubbing is to solder your rings...or only wear one ring at a time. Even spacers can rub. It seems you are asking about redesigning the ring so the band is three sided pave? My understanding is it is not recommended to wear another ring against three sided pave either - i...

Thank you, you've been very helpful over the past month or two! Re: Resizing - am I right to be upset about this? Or am I cr

Ha Bonfire, his counsel is so wise we all just jumped on at same time :) I really am appreciative of his time and opinion. It helped to just hear from people like yourself that I was not being totally unreasonable for being upset, which I felt like the bench was saying I was. That in itself has help...

Re: Resizing - am I right to be upset about this? Or am I cr

If you can live with it as it is, I suggest that may be the best bet. Continuing to try to perfect a problem rarely results in a perfect outcome, but more patchwork with new and different noticeable irregularities. If the ring looks nice from the top, just don't over-examine the part no one ever se...

Re: Resizing - am I right to be upset about this? Or am I cr

Thanks rockysalamander. My fingers change a lot over the day, never mind the year! But speed bumps have always worked really well for me. The guy I talked to today is SO against speed bumps though and likes rings to be super snug. His solution was basically "don't wear your rings when they don'...

Re: Resizing - am I right to be upset about this? Or am I cr

Thank you both LLJsmom and Oldminer . LLJsmom : is yours that thin from wear or something else? This is my permanent setting, and I guess I could just "go with it" until it breaks (which would hopefully be years rather than months). I am careful with my rings, but I also want to wear it an...

Re: Resizing - am I right to be upset about this? Or am I cr

Susief: it is an antique ring (from Edwardian period) - the maker is long dead, and this is most definitely not a ring I would ever reset. The antiqueness is why I have it! However, the ring shank itself as I said was in fine shape/excellent condition so not worn as you would expect for a 115+ year ...

Oh I agree diamondseeker - and I did give them a couple times with this ring (like I said I have used them a lot before with NO issues!). Re: Resizing - am I right to be upset about this? Or am I cr

It looks wonky to me. 1 mm deep is below standard, even for a lightweight band. It looks wider than 1 mm to me, but 1 mm wide is also below standard. That exists, but not on the bottom of a thicker band. That thickness is usually for plain bands. Thanks Christine. I don't have calipers so I could b...

Resizing - am I right to be upset about this? Or am I crazy?

I can't tell anymore if I am being very picky, or not assertive enough. And if the latter, what should I do? I recently took my ring in to get adjusted down in size a bit. It was just a bit too loose even with speed bumps. I took it to a local jeweler, with an in house bench, who has done resizes an...

Re: Ring appraisal: is it normal to leave a ring for 2 hours

I just dropped two rings off yesterday for a resize and they are doing an appraisal on one of them while it is there. I don't expect either of them back until next week so they would have PLENTY of time to swap stones if they wanted. But I know they won't. I trust the place I take my jewelery too, w...
