Re: Jewelers Mutual

Thank you, you've been very helpful over the past month or two! What is the benefit for people having a deductible, just curious why anyone would out themselves a large sum when you can opt otherwise. Some people like lower premiums, and think it is worth a few dollars less a year on an ongoing bas...

Re: Resizing - am I right to be upset about this? Or am I cr

Ha Bonfire, his counsel is so wise we all just jumped on at same time :) I really am appreciative of his time and opinion. It helped to just hear from people like yourself that I was not being totally unreasonable for being upset, which I felt like the bench was saying I was. That in itself has help...

Re: Resizing - am I right to be upset about this? Or am I cr

If you can live with it as it is, I suggest that may be the best bet. Continuing to try to perfect a problem rarely results in a perfect outcome, but more patchwork with new and different noticeable irregularities. If the ring looks nice from the top, just don't over-examine the part no one ever se...

Re: Thinness of shank - What would you do?

I have no business replying in here because as you know, I am trying to figure out what to do myself! I am careful with my rings but you sound like you may be even more careful than me, which is a good thing! I have read that the thin shank can break, yes, but there is also a concern with how it is ...

Re: Resizing - am I right to be upset about this? Or am I cr

Thanks rockysalamander. My fingers change a lot over the day, never mind the year! But speed bumps have always worked really well for me. The guy I talked to today is SO against speed bumps though and likes rings to be super snug. His solution was basically "don't wear your rings when they don'...

Re: Resizing - am I right to be upset about this? Or am I cr

Thank you both LLJsmom and Oldminer . LLJsmom : is yours that thin from wear or something else? This is my permanent setting, and I guess I could just "go with it" until it breaks (which would hopefully be years rather than months). I am careful with my rings, but I also want to wear it an...

Yeah, if that was done I would specifically ask that the owner (or another senior benchperson they have) did it.

Re: Resizing - am I right to be upset about this? Or am I cr

Susief: it is an antique ring (from Edwardian period) - the maker is long dead, and this is most definitely not a ring I would ever reset. The antiqueness is why I have it! However, the ring shank itself as I said was in fine shape/excellent condition so not worn as you would expect for a 115+ year ...

Re: Resizing - am I right to be upset about this? Or am I cr

Oh I agree diamondseeker - and I did give them a couple times with this ring (like I said I have used them a lot before with NO issues!). But the thing is - there is no point in going anywhere else now as I feel there is little to do (and I don't live somewhere with tons of benches). I don't want to...

Re: Resizing - am I right to be upset about this? Or am I cr

It looks wonky to me. 1 mm deep is below standard, even for a lightweight band. It looks wider than 1 mm to me, but 1 mm wide is also below standard. That exists, but not on the bottom of a thicker band. That thickness is usually for plain bands. Thanks Christine. I don't have calipers so I could b...

Resizing - am I right to be upset about this? Or am I crazy?

I can't tell anymore if I am being very picky, or not assertive enough. And if the latter, what should I do? I recently took my ring in to get adjusted down in size a bit. It was just a bit too loose even with speed bumps. I took it to a local jeweler, with an in house bench, who has done resizes an...

Re: Ring appraisal: is it normal to leave a ring for 2 hours

I just dropped two rings off yesterday for a resize and they are doing an appraisal on one of them while it is there. I don't expect either of them back until next week so they would have PLENTY of time to swap stones if they wanted. But I know they won't. I trust the place I take my jewelery too, w...

Re: Do you think this set is 14k or 18k YELLOW gold??

Photos can be misleading, but they easily look like 14k to me, especially in the last photo when you can see the bottom of the one ring better. It appears there as a more pale yellow, which I associate with 14k. I have lots of pieces in both 14k and 18k. 14k will still look yellow, especially on its...

Re: Asscher is dark in the middle in some lights

Thanks for the link - I had read the post and wondered if that was the issue. You are totally correct with the weight the stone is just over the 2 carat mark. Would the jeweller have known it wasn't a good cut or maybe not? I started to really notice the dark square soon after I got the diamond. Th...

Re: Gray - is it good/bad/neutral ?

But even with the price being "affordable", its still a lot of money considering I really can't see it first or, more importantly, return it after. I know of this stone and communicated with the seller too, but this is my big concern too. I like lower coloured stones, but the brown/...

Re: Ering style - Bling Ho or Elegant Lady?

LLJsmom, I love your solitaire on you. It is gorgeous. But I totally understand the drive for bling too. I would love a chunky three stone! I think you should keep the solitaire, but save up for a three stone. I don't know what I am anymore! I wore a more simple solitaire until recently...I always s...

Oh I am glad you cancelled the setting! Good work. Now I agree with the others who advised you to stop, breathe, and take your time. Re: Rose gold or yellow gold?

Yellow gold! It is very flattering on my skin tone (I am very pale, natural redhead, but my undertones are warm) and it just looks so lush to me. I always have some yellow gold on somewhere. I also love yellow gold and white metals mixed together. Rose gold varies too much for me. I do like a peachi...

Re: Cool, Unique, "Wow" Colored Stone Rings for Sale

Here's another one I have saved in my etsy favourites list. Ring face is Georgian with 4.50ct amethyst rose cut and old mine cut diamonds. The shank is estimated to have been added later, so I imagine it was once a brooch or something of that nature...I'd happily wear it as a statement ring!: https:...

Re: Cool, Unique, "Wow" Colored Stone Rings for Sale

If I had about $45,000 Canadian laying around, I might just buy this and carry around a stand to rest my arm on (the Canadian dollar is on an upswing, so maybe that will drop to $40,000 soon enough!): https://www.etsy.com/listing/215860432/edwardian-1579-carat-natural-ceylon http://www.pricescope.co...

Re: CVB LAD Communication?

I could tell many examples of vendors missing an emails or not returning calls over the last 10 years. I either moved on or contacted them in multiple ways until I reached them. Re: Can I get your thoughts on this setting? First time E-ri

The lovely thing about marquise is they face up large for their weight, so you can get a smaller carat weight with a lot of presence still. If she wants a marquise, I would totally get one, and I would go to Green Lake and get them to design a setting. Yes, you are spending a lot on the setting but ...

Yup, try looking up cluster, or even "floral halo ring" on google image search as I often see that term used too. You are right they aren't very popular on here but I love these style rings. I don't really go for delicate modern halos, but these more vintage/floral types... My ring ...
