Re: Gift for wife but new to pearls; is this a good choice?

yikes - please steer clear of that seller. Definitely not natural and not south sea, they are big though I'll give them that.

Re: Help please! What are these?

I didn't leave negative feedback for the seller, because, in their defence, they did state that the pearls were "sold to them as Tahitian". I did send an e-mail to her telling her so that hopefully in future, she won't be duped either. They were inexpensive, so I knew I was taking a huge ...

Re: What type of pearl has amazing luster?

Akoya on average have the highest luster of all cultured pearls but the new breed of gem grade freshwater pearls available certainly give them a run for their money.

Re: AA+ vs. AAA

Is there a visible difference between AA+ and AAA akoyas? For the akoyas the big difference between the 2 grades is going to be luster, its not a HUGE difference but it certainly noticeable. It sounds like AAA is what I need to go with. Who knew pearls were like diamonds..... ;) Oh pearls are MUCH ...

Re: Golden Kojima Pearl in T Lee Bracelet

now that's an interesting bracelet! Does the loop put pressure on the pearl though? I'd be worried the constant pressure would wiggle the pearl off the post.

Re: Trying to pick some big pearl studs ....

Circe, I would keep looking. The first pair are a off color and would be considered culls. The second pair are button shape, Do you really want to pay that much for used button pearls? Pretty much sums it up - you can do a lot better then these two options. The luster on the first pair seems good b...

Re: Beware Hanadama and non-GIA classified Akoya pearls

Stephen, My intention is not to bash anyone personally, I came to this forum not to sell but to help shed some light on the pearl industry as there is a lot of poor information out there. I believe you run a political forum, right? Then you know posts aren’t always what they seem. I'm sure you've en...

Actually no, this is not Eddie, and yes I did post this on both forums. It is good to be vigilant, but don't jump to conclusions or make assumptions too much. :D My apologies SanDiegoGuy, you are the first person in six years that Eddie has allowed to post on his forum? That is quite a feat! :mrgre...

Re: Who appreciates your pearls?

I gotta say I find this very strange you aren't getting compliments on your pearls - I can't go anywhere with my GF without somebody saying something about her pearls. Although once I was having a shirt with French cuffs fitted for me at a very high end store and I brought out my Tahitian cufflinks ...

Re: What color clasp with white pearls?

just making an estimate based on what our customers choose and its about 60% yellow gold, 40% white gold. In my opinion white gold gives a more modern look for what its worth.

Re: Hanadama 7.0-7.5 Japanese origin?

When you said: "at one time nearly all pearls 7.5mm or smaller were of Chinese origin, this is exactly the case anymore but certainly its possible for Chinese Akoya pearls to be certified Hanadama. " Did you mean "isn't exactly?" Clearly that was a typo, otherwise the sentence w...

Re: Hanadama 7.0-7.5 Japanese origin?

Eddie, You of all people should know that the Chinese akoya industry all but disintegrated three years ago. So why keep harping on the same subject, except to sow doubt about other vendor's pearls? You also know that the information on the CPAA site is very much outdated and wrong. You left out the ...

Re: Round, near-round or semi-round??

Semi-round and near round are getting pretty close to round but of course you can tell by looking at them that they aren't quite perfectly round. You'll see this a lot with freshwater, tahitian and south sea pearls. Round pearls are round, they should be "8 way rollers", which means they s...

Re: Are these pearls expensive or cheap to buy??

those are low quality freshwater pearls, very off round, badly match, dull luster etc. - it would be highway robbery to charge anybody $775 that necklace.

Please do not pay that price for those.
