Re: New course on cultured pearls

Yes, I was very generous of them to offer the class to us for free. When I get settled from my move I plan to take advantage of it. I signed up when they offered it to all at the Ruckus.

Re: Natural - Please Help!

In addition while I was researching online I found the following information... "In the 1950's, 60's and 70's a typical size for cultured pearls was 4mm to 6mm. Graduated necklaces were popular - ranging from a central 7mm diameter pearl to 3mm pearls at the necklace ends. A necklace from this...

Re: Natural - Please Help!

My guess is akoyas.... Also the lack of a bead is no proof that a pearl is natural; non-bead nucleated freshwaters are common. I do not believe they are akoyas and most of the pearls are 9mm or a bit over. They are too old (1920's) to be classified as non-bead nucleated freshwaters. In addition, th...

Re: Are there any trusted PS appraisers who are pearl expert

That is not a good idea. Ebay is the worst place to buy pearls. At the Pearl Guide ruckus in Los Angeles in July, Blaire Beavers did a talk on Pearl misrepresentations on ebay. If you shop for pearls there the likely hood you will end up with what you are trying to buy is low. Do you know the differ...

Re: Are there any trusted PS appraisers who are pearl expert

Hi everyone, I may be in the market for some pricey (to me) South Sea pearls. I've learned a lot about pearls by doing my own research, but still don't know as much about them as I do diamonds. Are there any PS trusted appraisers who are known to specialize in pearls? Say if I buy some and want an ...

Very nice quality pearls she has chosen. When you buy quality you are never sorry later. Rose gold or the others would be lovely.

I went online to look up the designer. Came up empty. Very odd.

The pearls appear to be button freshwater pearls. Are you sure these are set in white gold?

Re: So quiet on this forum..but, I have small question

Akoyas bigger than 9.5mm are exceedingly rare (and expensive). I've been waiting to see what the upcoming summer sales are too. Usually PP has a number of interesting summer sales. Historically these have included a general sale in July where a mix of (often one of a kind) things are offered. There...

Re: Help please...are these real? Selling price?

The strand looks great on you, unless you have another like it, I would wear them and love it. Selling something you don't even know is real will be hard don't you think. Pearls are easy to buy but very hard to sell.

Re: New to pearls...what should I get for $1000

I am fair skinned (with dark hair), and Tahitian pearls look so much better on me than white akoya or freshwater pearls. For $1000, I would buy a graduated strand of Tahitians (with the largest center pearls in the 11-13 mm range), with high luster and smooth surfaces. Oval or drop shapes look larg...

Re: New to pearls...what should I get for $1000

Just a thought. Before buying go to several jewelry stores and try on strands. Most women who buy Tahitians start out with 10mm as those are large compared to most akoya pearls grandma would have worn. Have the clerk tell you the Millimeter of the pearls, it should be on the tag or have them measure...

Re: Help Me Evaluate My Inherited Pearls

Alamana, I would look online and search for a local jewelry store in your area who has a GIA gemologist on staff or a independent jewelry store that sells a large selection of good quality pearls with a bench jeweler on staff. More than likely either one can look at your pearls and give you a free e...

Re: Help Me Find Pearl Earrings Please!

I agree, go to a jewelry store and try on the sizes mentioned if you can find them. Many ladies would not wear pearls that large in the beginning. Larger pearls do have a tendency to tip forward unless stabilizers are put behind the ear. Most ear nuts are not big enough for this job.
