Re: LED Lights

We have LED lights in our fifth wheel travel trailer and they're not all that bright (run off 12V batteries). I've only worn a 1/3 ct. diamond there and haven't noticed it not sparkling. I've just gotten a somewhat larger diamond that I will look at in the light there the next time we go, which will...

Re: GemFever's New OEC & Vintage Wedding Set

GemFever,

I would have been sick about the ruined fishtail prongs, too, but it does look good as regular prongs and you do see the shoulders better.

Beautiful set.

Re: .81 OMC in custom antique-inspired rose gold setting

Inspiration ring (approximately .8 OMC in white gold setting). You can see some damage in the lower shoulder in the last photo:

Re: .81 OMC in custom antique-inspired rose gold setting

My photos. The quality isn't that great but they at least give a real-world perspective. The first two show my GIA 2.06 J SI2 oval set in platinum and the EGL-USA .81 M VS2 OMB set in rose gold. The oval looks cloudy/milky in these photos but it doesn't look at all like that in real life. Size 8 rin...

.81 OMC in custom antique-inspired rose gold setting

 My alternate/every-day e-ring arrived today and it's just what I hoped it would be. I've been wearing a beautiful little 1/3 ct. tranny in a delicate platinum setting as my everyday ering, and it's beautiful, but it's a little small and delicate on my big man-hands (ring size _8_). I've been ...

Re: Updates, anyone?

Chewbacca, lin_ny, Today, I got my backup ering, an EGL-USA M OMC in a vintage-inspired RG setting. I am tickled with it. Don't have time to post a thread in vintage/antique or SMTB yet, but I will soon. I think you will both be thrilled. The RG really makes this diamond look bright and sparkly. liz

Not an expert, just wanting to comment. That's very pretty. I wouldn't kick it out for eating crackers in my bed . Beautiful diamond, beautiful setting.

Re: Eye clean I1?

I personally would rather have an M color over an I1 clarity. Just got my custom rose-gold ring with an EGL-USA M VS2 old mine brilliant and I can't believe how white the diamond looks!

Re: What could I do with these diamonds - Reset ideas

There's a lot of (expensive) labor involved with unsetting and resetting those little stones. You can probably buy a ready-made piece with more total carat weight for a lot less than having something custom-made would cost.

Re: I just wanna say -- the random comments thread

Earlier this afternoon, I got to watch a pod of four or five pygmy killer whales playing off the bow of the boat I'm on in the Gulf of Mexico! I've been on a research cruise with some former students of mine since Saturday and as we were leaving one site, these whales showed up and played around the...

Re: Question on insurance claims and super ideal cuts

I don't know exactly how insurance companies set their premiums, but if they have some target minimum profit, they set their rates based on their loss experience and their desired profit. It's possible that "inflated" replacement values result in lower per $100 prices and if replacement va...

Re: Please give me some opinions on this cad

I like the center stone higher, but all of the diamonds a little lower (the way you've changed the cad). I don't like the filled in sides at all. Just looks clunky and chunky to me. I prefer the open look of the original for the end prongs.

Re: "good" cut diamond in halo?

If you get it recut, do get it recerted. Otherwise, it won't match the certificate you have and that can be a can of worms.

Re: If you like tall crowns ... have I got the stone for you

More like junk on the roof rack than in the trunk! Saw another similar one in my viewings today. Etsy maybe? Very cool looking, but it's the opposite of spready, for sure.

Re: Somebody's Gotta Buy This Eternity Band!

Mayk,

Gah! That's pretty much my size and it's a great price. If it were rose gold, I'd probably grab it. I've been holding off on a couple of Cartier trinities priced at about $700.

Re: Somebody's Gotta Buy This Eternity Band!

I have one that is very similar to the Traub, only in size 8 and with more elaborate engraving. The engraved bands take a little getting used to (for me).

Re: What does your Summer Reading List look like?

Whatever's free on my Kindle. Usually mysteries, thrillers, and romance novels. I'm not a romance fan, but I'll download just about anything that's free that isn't too graphic and doesn't involve the supernatural, werewolves, or the apocalyptic future.

Okay, but that was five years ago and diamond prices have increased a lot during that time...

I got a 2.06 J SI2 oval about a year and a half ago for mid $8K. You may not find something for $5K but there are probably some relative bargains to be found.

Bryson,

Appraiser does not have to unset the diamond. If you take the cert for the diamond (GIA, AGS, whatever), the appraiser will have all the necessary info on the diamond.
