Re: What would you do?

Hi Pupp! MIL probably isn't happy about the fact that your daughter is a young teen mom with two kids out if wedlock. She probably does love your daughter, but her choices are hard for her to accept. Nothing you can really do about it unfortunately. Everyone isn't going to get along, and family memb...

What a mess. I just don't get what happened. It's like they just didn't want to put in any effort with your ring.

Re: Teach your daughters not to get drunk

All good points, Gypsy. Thank you for sharing your story, and I am sorry you were made to feel like it was somehow your fault for being a "tease." UGH!!! :nono: That really wasn't the point of the post. The point is that perpetuating rape culture causes more rape. But thank you. No, I do ...

Re: Teach your daughters not to get drunk

We all have to decide how much risk we want to take on. One way to cut down on risk is to not put yourself in a vulnerable situation. We can teach our sons all day long not to rape, to respect women, etc. But there are still some people who are just bad, people with no moral compass, people who get...

Re: Teach your daughters not to get drunk

Callie, hugs. Your situation was a horrible, terrifying one. Every woman should be safe in their own home. I already stated many times that I do not believe it is ever a woman's fault. I (and several others who agreed with me) said we should teach our daughters that getting drunk in public might not...

Re: Teach your daughters not to get drunk

OK so no woman could *ever* go out and have a drink too many? There's something off about that logic, even though I don't like drinking and if I had a daughter - or son - I would hope they wouldn't do too much of it (or at all, actually). I don't know. There's something different about saying be aw...

Re: Teach your daughters not to get drunk

Wanna teach your daughters something? Teach them to pick good friends. Teach them what consent looks like. Teach them to be strong through your example of strength. Teach them to love themselves through your unconditional love. Teach them to be competent in the world through self defense. But don't...

Re: Teach your daughters not to get drunk

Wow. Just ...wow. Laila, you live a very sheltered existence if you think this strategy is the answer. What do you propose: that your daughters carry a portable breathalyzer with them and blow every 20 minutes (they make disposable ones, in case you aren't aware)? "Sorry, guys, just have to ma...

Re: Teach your daughters not to get drunk

This is rape culture. No, I won't teach my daughter not to drink too much so she doesn't get raped. I'll teach her that it's unhealthy, she might embarrass herself, or make choices shell regret later. But I will not tell her not to drink because she might get raped. Suggesting women change their li...

Re: Teach your daughters not to get drunk

http://www.slate.com/articles/double_x/doublex/2013/10/sexual_assault_and_drinking_teach_women_the_connection.html A common denominator in these cases is alcohol, often copious amounts, enough to render the young woman incapacitated. Another common denominator is a god damn rapist. Well, obviously....

Re: Teach your daughters not to get drunk

I agree, lets teach sons not to rape. Also - date rape drugs. A woman can have 1 drink, or be drinking 7up all night long and end up with drugs in her drink. By your account, that's probably her fault for not watching her drink closely enough, or perhaps for not taking an 'anti-date rape drug' ahea...

Re: Teach your daughters not to get drunk

No one would get mad if someone said "We need to teach young women to look both ways before they cross a street, to lock their doors when home alone" etc. It's just common sense to stay safe. So why do people get so angry if someone mentions that getting black-out drunk in public probably ...

Teach your daughters not to get drunk

I didn't want to threadjack the other thread, and I think this is a very important topic. Let me make this clear before I say anything else: NO WOMAN EVER DESERVES TO GET RAPED. PERIOD. Now, with that said, why is it so controversial for us to teach our daughters/sisters/nieces that it is simply NOT...

Re: Alligator Drags Toddler Into Lagoon at Disney Resort

I think placing blame makes people feel better; this sort of thing will not happen to them because they have more common sense, they are better prepared, etc. So sad, every parent's worst nightmare. :(( I hope the poor dad isn't blaming himself for not being able to "fight" off the gator. ...

Re: Alligator Drags Toddler Into Lagoon at Disney Resort

People are really hypocrites. If a young woman gets black-out wasted from binge drinking in public, it's okay and she is not going to be held accountable if something bad happens to her. She has no responsibility to educate herself and keep herself safe. But now these poor parents are at fault that...

Re: Alligator Drags Toddler Into Lagoon at Disney Resort

A No Swimming sign is inadequate to protect against gators. Sure, the kid wasn't 'swimming'. Reportedly he was wading in 1-ft deep water when the gator snatched him. But I've seen nature docs of gators waiting motionless and still, underwater, at the water's edge with only their nostrils and eyes a...

Re: Alligator Drags Toddler Into Lagoon at Disney Resort

Liaerfbv and telephone, the point I was (unsuccessfully) trying to make is that we can't pick and choose--we should apply the same standards for everyone. Either people need to be held accountable for their own safety or they don't. I don't see how this family did anything wrong. They are blameless....

Re: IDJ E-W Marquise Ring Design - Poll - YG or WG?

I like both, with a slight edge to the YG.

Incidentally, gold is classic and I don't agree that it goes out of style. Certain ring styles of the '80s might be out of style today, but YG is always a true classic. In other countries especially, it's basically the only metal anyone wears!

This hurts so bad. I cannot even imagine what those poor parents are going through. Just a nice family trying to give their kids a fun summer vacation, and then this happens. Re: Question for ppl who have rings from a Pricescope jewele

If it's gold, you should not be polishing it that often because every time you polish gold, you are wearing away metal. You can clean the ring at home and use a soft buffing cloth. As for prongs, tap on the diamond. If it doesn't rattle or make a clinking sound, then it's probably secure.
