Re: Buying a First Time Engagement Ring

Why do you want E IF? A 1.5 H SI1 will fit your budget nicely.

Re: Thoughts on this 3.01 H VS2?

Numbers are fine. HCA will be under 2 with the new set of numbers, but 2.3 is not a problem.

Re: Color and Clarity

HCA says light return is "good," and fire and scintillation are "fair." Pavilion angle far too high, it is at the cutoff point for GIA EX grade.

And usually GIA EX steep/deeps are not good deals... you can usually find something better for less.

Re: Help deciding between AVR and JA's "True Hearts"

I like the K SI2 AVR, it looks bigger and a little whiter than the M.

I'd get the K VS1 if it is significantly bigger than the AVR.

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/?TabSelected=3&ps=15&DiamondID=212440,213910 AVR pair? There should be at least one good pairing that centers around the .75 G I1. http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/9274/ http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/9976/ http://www.goodoldgold.com/d...

Re: New member - researching for e-ring - young and dumb.

You don't need a super perfect ASET for it to look every bit as good as something like Whiteflash's "A Cut Above" hearts and arrows. The ASET and Ideal scope is much more sensitive than your eyes. Here is a video that GOG did, it compares a "premium" cut that obtains AGS 0 light ...

Re: New member - researching for e-ring - young and dumb.

The color is not as obvious with your eyes as on a computer screen. Most people cannot tell the difference between D and G in the face-up position, and between D and F, the number of people who can tell is much smaller. Something like this for 20K is what you can get: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose...

Re: help required in choosing a diamond..

The .600 is only a little bit bigger than the .566... I might go with the WF one in that case.

You need to go a little bit bigger to see the size difference: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.61-carat-j-color-si2-clarity-sku-207238

Re: help required in choosing a diamond..

Thanks for all the replies. Sorry for the confusion. I am looking at 2000 for the entire ring and not just the diamond. From your posts, i came to know that it is better to go with >0.5 caret and J rather then going with 0.45 caret and H or I. from all your suggestions, i liked http://www.jamesalle...

Re: help required in choosing a diamond..

You can get a .7 I SI2 for about 2000. You might consider J color, as well.

For around 1000, something in the neighborhood of half a carat is what you can get.

Re: Has anyone ever seen a poor Original Radiant Cut?

The GOG radiant is similar to a princess, but with clipped corners. Once you put prongs on it, it might not be different enough from a princess to satisfy your gf.

Re: Please Evaluate these idealscope images!

33.5 not low enough to be a chip risk.

It is possible you might find it to have a different look than the usual Tolk style configuration, but I would think they are equally beautiful. Plus, it has good spread and is cheaper than your other options.

They might also have a more exposed style called Raphael, ask them about this, as well as exposed girdles that will rub the e-ring setting. A thin spacer may be needed whe...

Re: Smallish budget - $2000-$3500

Don't do it to save taxes! Don't forget that you will probably be charged a setting fee for outside stones... Unless your local guys can do the ring+setting $350 (same as the WF price) I wouldn't take the risk. The GOG .85 was about 2700. I'm a bigger is better person, so if you want to spend less, ...
