Re: What's the story behind your avatar?

I fell in love with this photo from Pala Gems a long time ago. I love green, and I loved the cushion shape. However, when it came time for me to buy my first demantoid, this particular stone turned out to be too deep for what I wanted so I went with another stone. I think it still makes a good avata...

Re: Do you loan money?

Only to people I trust to repay me, and, like others, only in amounts I can afford to miss if never paid back. In your case, though, I definitely wouldn't do it. It sounds like she's the type who would always be hitting you up for money, which would make for an even more uncomfortable neighbor relat...

Re: New Art Deco Platinum Line Bracelet

Wow. The bracelet is much more substantial on you than I thought it would be. Is it really too long? I know you say you're swollen, but from the photo it almost looks slightly too small. Granted, I like tennis bracelets with a bit of a dangle--the way bangles hang on the wrist--so maybe that ...

Re: Dropped VC platinum/diamond ring in hot wax - help!

I think it should be fairly safe to use hot water. If you're worried, just boil some water and let it cool just a bit so it's the temperature you'd use for tea.

Re: Three dresses, please give your honest input! :)

Oh yeah, ignore your mom! The dress you call dress #3 is gorgeous on you. The one in the 2nd picture I don't like; the sleeves look matronly. And the fairy dress with the fluttery sleeves doesn't flatter you at all. Tell your mom that your Internet friends agree with you 100%!

I think it's a lovely setting. However, I also agree that if it isn't as specified the vendor should know about it and compensate you for it.

Re: Just sharing my new vintage 3 stone euro cut diamond rin

Swoon! Definitely see if it can be resized. The entire ring is so gorgeous I'd hate to see those stones removed. Plus, you're unlikely to get modern ring with such fine details.

Re: Do you eat "traditional" meals?

I'm Cantonese, so yeah, I often eschew "traditional" American meals. Some of them, though, are quite traditional to a Chinese family! On top of it, my DH and I don't have kids, so that also means dinner can be quite a free-for-all "let's scrounge whatever" sort of thing if we're ...

Re: Help Pick a Wedding Logo

My favorite by far is #118. It's charming and modern and romantic without being too cutesy. I also like #135 for the same reason. It's sorta cute, but the strong graphic, almost ad-like elements appeal to me. I don't mind #141, but it's a safe, old-fashioned choice. The ones with just the birds and ...

Re: $5000 dream setting... or upgrade stone?

If it were me I'd choose the setting, because for me the setting makes for as much or more of the *look* than the stone. However, I agree with the other gals that if you're thinking about upgrading now is not the time to buying a forever setting. Save up your money and wait a few years until you can...

Re: Point me in the right direction, how do you decide?

I think the only solution is really just to keep trolling jewelry stories. Keep trying on rounds and cushions until you decide you'd really prefer one shape or another. I don't know if it helps, but with a RB you'll get more sparkle, but with a cushion you get a more singular shape. However...it wou...

Re: What's the Biggest Diamond You'd Wear on a Ring

Depends on the shape. I couldn't wear a RB that larger than, say, 1.5, and I'd prefer smaller. For an EC or an OMC I can probably go up to a 2. Other than that...I might go larger if it's a rose cut, but anything flashier would make me feel uncomfortable. For me it's not a safety issue, but I just p...

Re: San Francisco Jewelry Mart/Gift Center

I've only purchased from Derco. I wouldn't say it's a huge bargain, especially if you're already looking at PS vendors, but they were certainly helpful and fairly reliable.

Re: tell me, why is asscher cut so popular?

In a way, I think this is sort of a silly question. I have no idea why people find Christine Bale so attractive, but lots of people do. Do I ask them to dissect his facial features or his body or why they think he has charisma? No, I just assume that many people find him majorly hot in a way that I ...

Re: Is a 'good' cut good enough? - David - Please chime in!

Exactly! Make sure you know what to look for. They almost all look pretty in the store but under oth...
