Whoops, I guess you are right Richard. India is in Asia. LOL I always consider just China and Japan as Asia. Anyway, so if a stone is green to dark purple instead of red you would not consider it an alexandrite? If you would consider it an alex, do you think a 78pt aprox. wit... |

Question on Alexandrites
Hey, why is it that everyone says that alexandrites are so rare and then I see them all over the internet and JTV. Is it really that rare? If so, could anyone explain why I see so many of them being sold. Thanks guys. Trying to figure out whether to buy one or not. |

Decision time
Could you please help me with this decision. I recently purchased a tanzanite with beautiful body color. The problem is that the cut is a bit off. The bottom of the gem is off center. In a tanzanite, how important is the cut. Is body color or cut more important? T... |

Irradiated Stones
Does anyone know if irradiated diamonds can be dangerous. I read somewhere that they are. Do they leave a residual? Will washing your hands get rid of the danger? Does anyone know how this works? |

I also saw a tanzanite at Bailey Banks and Biddle too and yeah it was the deepest most beautiful blue with tons of red flashes. I wondered if that was a real tanzanite because no place else did I ever see one as deep blue with red flashes. Everyplace else seemed to have tanzanites that w... |

Bingo, that''s exactly what it looks like. Except it does not intersect at all. The lines only go in one direction and cover the whole surface. It is not in bunches. It looks like I got a paint brush and swooped across the enitre surface evenly. Could that be rutile silk?&nbs... |

Thank you. It doesn''t look at all like that. I wish I could explain it better. It looks like lots of thin lines. Like you got a paint brush and brushed it down the stone but it''s inside of the stone. Thank you again you are so sweet to help me figure this out. |

Thanks so much I will try to learn how to load up the picture if I can. It may take a while. In the meantime could you tell me what kinds of inclusions would be present in a real alexandrite? Also what would it look like. Thanks a mill and I hope you are having a super weekend. |

What are those lines?
