Re: Americans, how do you feel about America?

Often the people doing the actual work are often just as frustrated with the system as they are trying to help. I have a question how many levels are above you to the very top? What is the worker to management ratio? I was talking to someone that works for the state of IL and they have 40 some over...

Re: Americans, how do you feel about America?

What I am not fine with is the fact that we make an average of 19-25% less than similar positions in the private sector. Some of our staff with families qualify for food stamps. Pretty sad when they are operating a $200K piece of machinery and are responsible for the safety of the traveling public....

Please, NO MORE committees. Those things are awful and only get in the way of real work. We don't need a study on whether the road need to be fixed. It's cracked, it needs to be fixed!

Re: Americans, how do you feel about America?

We also have more government employees on all levels than any time in history. That is an even bigger problem. Bloated bureaucracies that are massively inefficient and full of patronage and fraud and provide crappy service to those that they are supposed to serve . I work for L.A. County and I thin...

Hold your head up high, your pregnancy is nobody's business (a thoroughly American concept once upon a time along with live and let live). Uh, it's not my pregnancy, it's my face. I just don't want people to think I'm one of those women. I think that practice is wrong and I want zero association wi...

A definite yes! IMO, We shouldn't allow every child who is born here to become a instant U.S. citizen unless one of the parent is a U.S. citizen. This will stop the pregnant mothers for sneaking across the borders to have her baby. Stop acting like illegal immigration is a "brown people" p...

How do you change someone who does not want to change? If you know the answer to that then spill because no one else has come up with it. Euthanize, then for the remaining population, develop and implement a chip system for reproductive rights. The chip will render everyone from birth to be sterile...

TBH, I have been living here in Ca. for 47 yrs now and I don't feel I was ever discriminated against. My wife and daughter earn the same salaries as their male counterparts with the same job title. Re: Why I hate Costco's free sample stands

Not all Costcos are like that. We live near two. One is bad during the weekends, the other one isn't. The one that is crowded during the weekend is just as crowded during the week. (doesn't anyone work?!?) The one that isn't crowded usually carries better items, so it's a no brainer which one we vis...

Re: Cost of living in CA

Thanks! My hubby would prefer San Diego or Palo Alto but it's Fla all the way for me! Maybe he could send checks!!! He is convinced we could get a condo in San Diego for under $300,000 but I think he is nuts! Hmm, maybe 18-20 years ago. SD prices haven't been that low since before I went to college...

Re: Cost of living in CA

AprilBaby, $300k is probably not going to get much around L.A. I live near Pasadena. The suburb I live in is pretty decent, with a good enough school district to maintain real estate value. Our fully renovated 1500 sq ft house was $570k, and it has increased in value by quite a bit in the past few y...

Re: Cost of living in CA

Many plastic bags end up in the ocean only to be swallowed by fish. ;( I'm glad they are banned in many CA cities. I hope the rest of the country and world gets onboard. It's no trouble to bring my own bags to the store. Agreed. Although some storm drains do have nets set up, cleanup cost is massiv...

Re: Taking Vacation Time While Pregnant

I wouldn't feel bad about taking time off. I'm 12 weeks right now and am taking two weeks off this summer. I'm also taking a week off in the fall. I would take more time off if I had more vacation time on the books!

Re: What color polish are you rocking right now?

I used the nail polish brush! I clear all the polish off the brush, then dot it into the polish. It usually still picks up too much, so I dot it onto a piece of plastic or something to get the excess off, then dot on my nail. There's a huge nail polish supply store down the street and I need to pick...

Re: What's your opinion on prenuptial agreement ?

If we divorce, he will not have access to any of my assets acquired pre-marriage. We didn't live together, so that makes it easier. We each put in 50% towards the house, so that would be split down the middle. I think it's smart to have a prenup. 3 of my friends are already divorced/currently going ...

Re: 0.5ctw earring studs- OEC/AVR or MRB???

At that size, MRB should look brighter. I love old cuts but their flashes are more subtle, and they need to be larger to be appreciated.

Re: Who pays for the wedding...What's the American rule?

Most of my ABC friends paid for their own weddings, and they did have $30k+ weddings. Think most of them had between 100-150 guests? One couple had a $90k+ wedding in SF and they paid for everything themselves. Most of them were around 30-33 when they got married, so they were financially stable by ...

Re: Raise Your Hand for an Engagement Selfie

You'd be surprised at what people notice. I posted a picture of my oec (my friends like to see my latest ebay deals so it's not a show-off type situation), and the first thing a guy friend said was, "wow, your fingers are so wrinkly." :errrr: I totally think he was tweaking you and trying...

Re: Declawing cats. UGH! I had no idea.

Nobody suggested that msop's cats are in pain, did they? If she says her cats are fat and happy, then I'm happy for them. Since my offending statement was quoted, I felt I should clarify. I merely stated that cats can hide pain well, and people may not notice if they suffer from mild pain. It's not ...

Re: Declawing cats. UGH! I had no idea.

And yes, animals hide pain, and they hide it very well. I've sat w/kitties that were dying, and they laid in my lap and purred...until they just were quiet. When Sadie got stuck in the kennel fence and was hanging by her back leg, the only way you could tell she was in pain was the look in her eyes...

Re: Declawing cats. UGH! I had no idea.

How is it a weird statement to make? I've heard that from a lot of vets. That's interesting, FK... I've never heard that statement before... I've actually only heard the opposite. Everything that I have read and/or has been explained to me has described animals as being like infant humans. Reaction...

Re: Declawing cats. UGH! I had no idea.

Not flaming, but just because the cats didn't "appear" to be in pain, doesn't mean they weren't actually living with residual pain every day of their long lives. They are very good at hiding pain . Really?? What do they say to you??  In all seriousness, I don't think my animals...
