~~ The Christmas Shopping Thread 2014~~

I love sharing great things that come into my life, and I thought it would be a nice idea to start a thread on Christmas present finds/suggestions/requests. This idea came from me intially just wanting to post about a couple great gifts I recently purchased. But then I thought how we could turn this...

Re: Holiday Menu suggestions...

The next two will most likely debut this Thanksgiving, I didn't have them til recently. This first one is for roasted brussel sprouts. I hate brussel sprouts, but Ina made them sound so good I had to try them. Oh my word, they are delicious! And the little leaves that come loose when you trim the s...

Re: Holiday Menu suggestions...

These are SO good, and way more healthy than the sweet potato dish we all have the recipe for that is more like dessert than a vegetable. I have experimented and for a single recipe you can easily cut the butter by 1 or 2 Tbsp. if you so desire. These are just scrumptious. Sweet Potato Wedges (origi...

Hey Gypsy! Thank you for the ham recommendation. I LOVE a good ham, and am most times left wanting. ( a better ham, lol  ;)) ) So I am writing this one down. We don't have a Costco real close, but a friend belongs and frequents the one within driving distance so I will get her to get me on...

Hi mb ! I didn't have any til I got home, and here are my thoughts. It's not as good as I thought it would be, or wanted it to be. With 2 Tbsp. of pumpkin pie spice in it, I thought it would be, spicier. It has an alright flavor, certainly you can taste pumpkin. It is rather dense, and a hair on th...

Re: Voter report card, is this legal?

distracts , thank you very much for the very lengthy and informative post. I really appreciate it! For the record, we get mostly robo calls as well, but I will file away the info on real callers, for future reference ---> Because the madness has ceased as of about 2 hours ago when we got the last c...

Re: Voter report card, is this legal?

I find the political mailings and the majorly annoying phone calls a total and complete waste of time and money. When my phone rings, I look quickly at caller id and then press Talk and Off to disconnect them. I don't even care to listen to the ringing. Are they that stupid to think people really v...

Hi mb ! Ok Deb , I made the first of my picks yesterday and took it to church for our SS class. There is always someone bringing baked goods, many times the wife of our teacher, for whoever is having a bday, or, just because we all like sweets. So I figure this is a good place to try new ...

Re: Voter report card, is this legal?

Yes, it is legal. Anyone can look up whether or not you have voted. In many places you have to go to city hall to do this still but some counties, like mine, have it all online. Mailing the info out is a proven strategy for increasing voter turnout, and has been done periodically by different organ...

Re: Voter report card, is this legal?

Ellen, looks as though it's happening all around the country and other folks are upset as well. I guess we can add another term to our urban dictionary "vote shaming." I think this practice is shameful and a violation of privacy regardless of whether it's a matter of public record. http:/...

Re: Voter report card, is this legal?

Hi Ellen, Yes, it quite legal. The election lists are used by every political party looking to seek election. Its public knowledge. For example, the calls you receive are not random. You may live in a state that requires you to declare a party affiliation when you vote in primary elections, so anyo...

Re: Voter report card, is this legal?

Thanks for commenting Dee. Yeah, I went to their website and noticed everything you did, and had a lot of the same thoughts. We vote in the same manner down here (southern IL for those unaware). But I want to think at some point in the past someone told me you can go somewhere (courthouse maybe? nee...

Voter report card, is this legal?

In the mail a few days ago, my husband and I received cardboard flyers from America Votes. On one side it's saying be a voter, etc. On the other side is a graph showing my voting participation compared to people in my area. My husbands shows the same. Knowing that I don't vote anymore and he votes e...

Jilly, that does sound delicious!

Were the cookies for the topping easy to find? And I know exactly what you mean about the topping (too much butter), I have had that happen before. Thanks for the heads up, and thanks for the recipe!

Re: What's it like to live in St. Louis?

I grew up and live about 40 minutes north of St. Louis, my sister lived in CO for a while years ago (Idaho also, GORGEOUS!) and I went out to stay with her a couple times. (Everything seems to have been covered that's of any real importance) So I will just say, aesthetically speaking, there is no co...

Re: Why is PS slower than 10 yrs ago?

ksinger , in regard to the article you posted, there's much that could be said, but I will keep it brief, to this one commemt, and then I am done as I know all too well this could go on ad infinitum. I remember a discussion on this board about something in the health field. I honestly don't recall ...

It was lovely to see you posting again, even if it was briefly, Ellen . I know that you have flitted (flit?) by from time to time to say "hello", but until today I haven't really read anything very substantive from you in a very long time. I didn't mean that to sound as rude as it does . ...

Re: Why is PS slower than 10 yrs ago?

I'd say because the world is a much different place than it was 10 years ago. PS had its heyday when there weren't many 1:1 social media outlets and most connection was done through interest-specific boards......jewelry, cars, purses, etc. In those early days, this was the way people primarily conn...
