Re: 3.95ct Pink Sapphire Platinum Ring (Vance Gems)

I'm sure your '2nd mother' will be blown away, it's stunning! The sapphire is that perfect shade of pink, (and huge!) and the mount is just so ornate and perfect! One of the most beautiful sapphire rings I've seen anyway! And then you go and throw in your wife's blue sapphire ring too, now that's ju...

Re: Topaz? Any suggestions?

I agree that it could be zircon, I have one that is pretty much it's twin. As chrono said, you should check for DR, might help you a lot. Oh, and beautiful ring btw! :praise:

Re: Gemstones displays

Since we are on the subject, thought I would mention this seller for anyone in the UK who is looking for a display. They have the big 5 drawer case and inserts that cellentani mentions in her other thread, and their service is good. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/BoxDisplays?_trksid=p2047675.l2563 I'm als...

Re: Somebody's Gotta Buy This Stone!

Someone please buy this tourmaline from Litnon:

http://www.litnon.com/index.php?page=viewgem&id=7208

It was listed and sold about a year ago. I swooned over it then, and I'm swooning over it now!
Alas, it is too expensive for me, and I have to save up a mortgage deposit! Booo!! :(sad

Re: How Does This Happen?

Very strange. I tried to authorize the report with AIGS and they said it could not be found which isn't a good sign. I wasn't sure if they authorized the brief reports but I assume they do since it has a report number(?) Sorry, but it looks dodgy to me. The report costs more than the stone at the mo...

Re: Somebody's Gotta Buy This Stone!

I don't know what other people's experience with Jeff's stones are, but I bought an amethyst from him a while ago and while beautiful, it was quite a bit darker than the video. The trillion looks brilliant though so maybe it won't be a problem. Just something to bear in mind.

Ooh, I've been eyeing that one up too!

No idea if it will fit a mount easily if I'm honest, but to me, the cut and colour are nice, and it seems a good price too. Will be interested to see what it looks like if you buy it.

Re: Jewellers who can't pronounce gem names!

I love how they have the ability to say things (often lies) with such conviction. One of my favorite: windowed stones are purposely cut that way to mimic an antique look, as all antique stones have windows (it was the fashion back in the day).  Love that they can say it with a straight f...

Re: Amethyst & Garnet - Friends?

Tsavorite or spessartite. I think purple is pretty easy to co-ordinate with, as long as you don't mind the bold colour combinations.

I'm not really a fan of jewellery channels per se (mostly because of their questionable sales techniques) and never buy from them, but I like to see what's out there y'know? Jewellers who can't pronounce gem names!

Anyone else hear gem 'experts' (aka dodgey salespeople) trying to sell gems they can't even pronounce?!
