Hi Everyone,
This is my first post. I am hoping ya'll can help me out. I have am been dating my girlfirend for about 7 years now and it is becoming that time. We were at the mall last week to go to the movies and happened to start looking at rings. To make the story short she fell in love with an engagement ring at Zales. She loves that it is vintage looking with the side engravings and emerald diamonds. I do not know much at all about jewellery, diamonds, rings, etc. I just figured that there has to be a better or high quality option out there. My problem is that I don't know where to look for a higher quality similar looking ring. Frankly, I wouldn't know what a similar vintage ring would look like. Any advice ya'll may have will be greatly appreciated. I included the link below.

It might be a little bit more work but totally worth it if you source your own center stone and have it set in the mounting of your choice.
These are a couple vendors that carry lots of vintage style pieces:

Take a look at some diamonds here:
http://www.goodoldgold.com/
(This vendor has access to the above brands)

I really like this diamond vendor because they truly provide you with any and all information you need to evaluate fancy shapes like an emerald cut. If they don't have anything in stock that you like they will also source stones for you and they will even make a video comparison if you're undecided between stones and can't see them in person.

What's your budget?

Assuming your budget is around 5k I'd go for something like this:
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/E-VVS2-Ideal-Cut-Emerald-Diamond-1522451.asp (you would put it on hold and ask them for an ASET image, which will take 3 days, then once you have it you'd post it for us to evaluate).

And I'd pick one of these settings (and I'll tell you which one I'd pick if it were me, and why):

http://www.beverleyk.com/semi-mounts/8wr564-a-d-d-m.html Beverly K will customize the dimensions of the head to fit your stone, each one is made to order.

or

http://www.elizabetajewelry.com/products/beverley-k-diamond-engagement-ring-semi-mount-center-stone-not-included-number-9419-slash-60 They will customize it to fit the SHAPE and dimensions of your stone (ask them to change the halo to suit the octagonal emerald outline). AND I WOULD ASK THEM TO ADD ENGRAVING TO THE SHANK (band portion of the ring). Beverly K is great about making customizations to their settings at an affordable price. This one would have exactly the look she wants, once they add the engraving.

The retailer for the setting that I would use is Pearlmans Jewelers.

I totally agree with Gypsy! That second setting with the stone posted from JA would be so gorgeous and much better quality than the one at Zales! Plus your girlfriend will probably love the fact that you put the effort into coming up with something yourself!

Thank you everyone for your help. Everyone is really helping out with my ignorance in this subject. Budget would be somewhere between 5-10k. Would probably rather spend between 5-7or8k. Thank you all again.

@gypsy I asked them for an image in ASET. They said it is on hold and I should get an email. I will post it when I get it. Thanks again.

So, I would add this to your hold.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Emerald-Diamond-1502377.asp Very few SI step cuts are eyeclean. But this one may be. If it IS, it's a FABULOUS deal for a one carat F color step cut with great spread. So if it is eyeclean, I would get an ASET and post it. Especially since your budget has more flexibility I think it would be nice to get a one carat center.

And since you get three ASETs, if that one isn't eyeclean add two of these. Or add one, if that one is eyeclean:

I just asked for that one to be added to my order for ASET. So this is now number 2. @gypsy I can't find the ring from elizabeta jewelry on pearlmans or good old gold.

Just give them the item number or show them a pic, they can order anything from Bev K. My Bev K is from GOG, too - not on their site and I am sooo happy with it!

Webdiva is correct. Just email them the link to the setting on the elizabeta site and ask them for a quote ... Mention you are a Pricescoper.
