A question to the experts out there - why does this AGS Cut Grade Ideal 0 stone score "only" 2.9 on the HCA?

http://agslab.com/reportTypes/pldqr.php?StoneID=01040396790001&Weight=3.56&D=1

Specs are 3.56 ct RB, H, VS2, depth 62.2, table 57 %, crown angle 35.6, pavilion angle 40.8, negligible fluoro

Is this why the stone is priced about 10K cheaper than a smaller one - 3.23 ct (same color and clarity) GIA Excellent that scores 1.3 on the HCA?

http://www2.gia.edu/reportcheck/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.showReportVerification&reportno=2115748801&weight=3.23

Specs for second stone are 3.23 ct RB, H, VS2, depth 61.5, table 56 %, crown angle 34.5, pavilion angle 40.8, no fluoro

Thanks! Just trying to get my head around the two labs, cut grades and HCA.

The AGS stone is getting dinged on the HCA for depth over 62 and a crown angle of 35.6. If you plug in your numbers and reduce one or both of those numbers, the score goes up.

Pricing is not based on the HCA.

The second stone is a VS1. The first stone is a VS2. That could account for the price difference.

Its the angle combo penalizing the HCA score, Idealscope would be the next step if you are seriously interested in these diamonds, out of the two I prefer the proportions of the second. As to the price difference, its probably the clarity grades.

#1 could work, IS image will tell more.
Why do you need IS image when you have ASET image:

Thanks all! I was concerned about the feathers near the edge for #1, don''t know if it is worth seeing. It''s also a lot of inclusions for a VS2. I didn''t realize #2 was a VS1 (all this diamond searching has got me a bit cross eyed!). There''s no plot map online for #2 so I''m not sure where and how many inclusions there are.

It could be if you could get an actual IS image for the stone, I prefer these to the computer generated images on the report. The second has the best proportions but no reason to discount the first at this stage if you are interested.
